On November 22, 1963, John F. Kennedy, the 35th president of the United States, became the victim of an assassin's bullet during a motorcade visit through Dealey Plaza in Dallas, Texas. Although the Warren Commission later concluded Kennedy's assassination had been the work of one man, Lee Harvey Oswald, questions have remained about what other information might remain in holdings of the intelligence community. 

Last week, the latest in an ongoing declassification of records related to the assassination made additional JFK files available to the public. In late 2019, residents of Colorado and Nebraska were perplexed by a sudden wave of mystery drone sightings that, to date, remain unexplained. For decades, belief in unidentified aerial phenomena has found its way into the ideas espoused by a number of religious and political groups, as well as other organizations with unusual backgrounds. On Saturday, an exclusive interview aired on News Nation in which Jacob Barber, a retired U.S. Air Force serviceman, made a bombshell claim to Australian journalist Ross Coulthart: that he had served for years as part of an alleged covert program that recovered spacecraft of non-human origin. Witnesses from all parts of the world spanning several decades have reported sightings of mysterious phenomena in our skies. Currently, these phenomena are being investigated by the U.S. Department of Defense, which formally refers to them as unidentified anomalous phenomena. As 2025 kicks off, U.S. officials have been on high alert following a pair of New Years Day attacks that occurred in separate American cities only hours apart. One of the incidents, a suicide bombing involving a Tesla Cybertruck outside the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas, has also become the focus of controversy for reasons few might have predicted: new allegations that the bomber had possessed knowledge of U.S. war crimes, secret propulsion technologies being used by China, and a supposed UAP unacknowledged special access program.

Since November, American East Coast residents and U.S. officials have demanded clarity after a wave of drone sightings occurring over New Jersey and New York, with their origins and intent still shrouded in mystery. Shortly after another bombshell Congressional hearing on unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP), the Pentagon's All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) released its Fiscal Year 2024 Consolidated Annual Report on UAP, detailing the U.S. government's latest findings on aerial mysteries with references to mysterious "green fireballs," "multicolored jellyfish," and UAP that "shadowed" aircraft.

On Wednesday, lawmakers convened on Capitol Hill for the latest in a series of Congressional hearings on unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP). In 2013, a feature article appeared on the website of legendary aerospace and defense giant Lockheed Martin that quickly had aviation buffs talking. The piece, titled ?Speed is the New Stealth,? claimed that a new hypersonic aircraft was under development at the company?s famous Skunk Works facility, which would soon set a new standard for speed and stealth in American aerospace technologies. In the years immediately following the Second World War, sightings of strange phenomena in our skies gave rise to one of the strangest developments of the postwar era: the "arrival" of flying saucers, strange objects that the U.S. government now calls unidentified anomalous phenomena. 

Joining us this week is Greg Eghigian, a Professor of History and Bioethics at Pennsylvania State University. An expert on the history of the abnormal and the paranormal in the modern world, his research has been supported by NASA and the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, and Greg joins us on The Micah Hanks Program to discuss his recent book, After the Flying Saucers Came: A Global History of the UFO Phenomenon.

Throughout the final decades of the 20th century, strange beliefs began to pervade the UFO research community. Ranging from stories of alleged flying saucer crashes, to strange encounters with "malevolent" alien beings, these and other controversial narratives began to predominate the minds of many in the UFO field. Where did these ideas originate, and how have they continued to shape the modern UFO narrative? 

Joining us this week to discuss the origins of such ideas is Charles Lear, an independent historical researcher and author of books that include his latest work, Crashed Saucers and Malevolent Aliens: The Emergence of the Popular Modern UFO Mythos in the Late 20th Century. As humans continue to search the cosmos for evidence of intelligent life from other worlds, and the UAP debate suggests the possibility that it may already have found us, legal scholars are now considering how laws would apply to potential contact scenarios. 

Joining us on The Micah Hanks Program this week are Professor Michael Bohlander, the Chair in Global Law and SETI Policy in the Durham Law School, and Dr. John Elliott, an Honorary Research Fellow in the School of Computer Science and the Coordinator for the SETI Post Detection Hub at the University of St Andrews. After the surrender of Japan that marked the end of the Second World War, American forces began to unravel clues to the existence of a disturbing secret program involving biological experiments carried out on human test subjects during the height of the conflict. Known as "Unit 731", the program has never been officially acknowledged, and although its existence is well established, the American government's secretive dealings with Japanese scientists led to an eastern counterpart to the controversial "Operation Paperclip" that ensued with Nazi scientists after the war. 

This week on The Micah Hanks Program, we look at the tragic history of Unit 731's war crimes, as well as the American effort to cover up its cooperation with the secretive group after the war, and finally, its possible connection to one of the most controversial alleged UFO incidents of all time.

In postwar America, a shocking secret program was undertaken to bring former Nazi scientists to the United States, in order to maintain a strategic advantage against the Soviet Union. In 1996, radio host Art Bell received a mysterious package containing small metallic samples and an incredible story. According to the anonymous author of the enclosed letter, the material fragments had been collected during the recovery of an advanced aerospace vehicle that crashed near Roswell, New Mexico in the summer of 1947.

Recently, the All-Domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) conducted a series of tests on the legendary material, whose unique physiochemical properties were claimed to enable "inertial mass reduction" (i.e., levitation or antigravity functionality), potentially due to the bismuth and magnesium layers acting as a terahertz waveguide. This week on The Micah Hanks Program, look at AARO and Oak Ridge National Laboratory's findings, as well as a deep dive into the bizarre story of these alleged Roswell materials.

In the summer of 1995, following a congressional request, the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) investigated documents related to the alleged crash of a "flying disc" near Roswell Army Air Field (RAAF), New Mexico in 1947. The result, which produced no "smoking gun" evidence of the purported crash, did reveal the mysterious destruction of records from the period, raising questions about who, and under what authority, the records might have been destroyed. 

Now, new draft language has revealed a possible effort by present-day U.S. lawmakers to have the GAO conduct a similar audit of the Pentagon's All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO). This week on The Micah Hanks Program, we examine the situation, and also look at the history of the GAO's involvement with U.S. government investigations into UAP.

As humanity continues its journey forward into the era of artificial intelligence, many leading futurists are looking ahead to what the following decades may hold for us. During the Cold War, sightings of strange "mystery submarines" were reported in various parts of the world, from the coastal waters of Scandinavian countries to the ocean surrounding parts of New Zealand, South American countries, and others. On June 12, 2024, a concerning situation began to unfold as an official NASA live stream featured audio that appeared to reveal a medical emergency unfolding on board the International Space Station. In the 1980s, Popular Mechanics featured an intriguing cover story that detailed encounters with a colossal black flying wing in California?s desert skies. In 2017, Luis Elizondo, a former U.S. Army Counterintelligence Special Agent and former employee of the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence, revealed that he had been involved with the U.S. Department of Defense's investigations into unidentified aerial phenomena. Since coming forward, Elizondo has remained a controversial figure, with some questioning his claims, as well as whether the program he said he ran, the Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program, or AATIP, even existed.

In January 2023, a U.S. military pilot reported an encounter with a group of unusual objects flying in a diamond formation over the Gulf of Mexico near Eglin Air Force Base. The incident, which eventually came to the attention of Florida Representative Matt Gaetz, became a matter of public record after Gaetz discussed it during a Congressional hearing in the summer of 2023. 

Now, the DoD's All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office has released its official report on the incident, claiming the case has now been resolved. However, there are several problems with AARO's analysis, and this week on The Micah Hanks Program, we dive into all of the issues that present rationale for why there may be unresolved questions about this alleged UAP incident.
