DJI Osmo Action VS GoPro Hero7 Black

DJI recently released its "GoPro killer" - the DJI Osmo Action. I've been using this camera for about a week now - so how does it stack up to the GoPro Hero7 Black? Both do 4k video and 12 megapixel stills. Both have incredible image stabilization (with a slight edge to the Osmo). But what about timelapse, hyperlaps and the other features action cameras are now expected to have? We'll take a look in this video. Is THIS the FUTURE of Photo and Video Editing?

Promotional and other consideration provided by NVIDIA For more on blazing fast GPU check out https://nvda.ws/2VLmFAX GPU cards are an essential part off the graphic performance in your computer. In this video we?ll take a look at an external GPU or eGPU setup. I'm using a Dell XPS 15 9570 laptop, but you can use any laptop that supports Thunderbolt 3 and has a minimum of 16GB of RAM and an i5 processor (i7 8th generation recommended) - this could be somethign like the Razer Blade 15, Razer Blade Stealth or HP Spectre 13. You can also run an eGPU with a Macbook but using NVIDIA cards is going to require a lot of workarounds. This is an excellent way to speed up the performance of applications such as Lightroom, Premiere Pro and After Effects by adding an external GPU card. Also worth noting - as I am posting this video, NVIDIA has just announced as I?m releasing this video, NVIDIA has announced their new RTX Studio laptops. These new Laptops are designed for creative work and are boasting some serious specs. The new Studio drivers have been tested extensively with applications by Adobe, Epic, Autodesk, Unity and Blackmagic Design specifically with creative workflows in mind. #NVIDIAStudio Music is from Epidemic Sound https://goo.gl/v5wWKr AoP T-Shirts https://aop.threadless.com/ Need a website? http://squarespace.com/aop On my channel you will find videos about photography, cinematography, post processing tutorials for Capture One, Lightroom and Photoshop, photo assignments that YOU can participate in, the Artist Series and more. How to copy the COLOR GRADE of ANY Image

Learn how to match the color grade from any image to one of your own! Check out my Preset Pack for Adobe Lightroom/Adobe ACR http://theartofphotography.tv/presets The heart of color grading comes down to understanding how light and color work in the highlight, midtone and shadow areas of a photograph. The ULTIMATE PORTRAIT LENS? :: Sony 135mm f/1.8 G Master

The Sony 135mm f/1.8 G Master lens is the 31st lens in Sony's full-frame, e-mount lineup. I quickly fell in love with this lens - it is outstanding. Designed for longer portraits, this has some of the best optical rendering that I've seen on any lens to date. This is the ultimate portrait lens. Bokeh is excellent, it has outstanding sharpness and the autofocus speeds are impressive. This has the same XD linear drive system that is found in the Sony 400mm f/2.8 G Master as well as the Sony 24mm f/1.4 G Master lenses. One correction - around 03:17 I say there's little spherical aberration at small apertures when in face I meant to say diffraction. This is where the sharpness softens in the lens and for most lenses this starts around f/16. Its been a long week - sorry for the confusion. Check out my other videos: ? Canon EOS RP :: Why?

Canon has just announced a new entry level, full frame mirrorless camera - the Canon EOS RP. The most interesting features on this new camera are the RP's small size and its price. Its the most affordable full frame mirrorless camera to be introduced in the last year. But this makes me wonder, what is the point of the Canon RP? It doesn't have any more features than the DSLR cameras that currently exists, so unless your requirements are an extremely small size, why would this be a camera of interest? No Photography Allowed?!?!

This weekend I went to Marfa, TX to visit the Chinati Foundation. Of course, no photography allowed. I'm always the first to defend the right to photograph, but in this case I actually agree with the policy. Experiencing the works of art by Donald Judd, Dan Flavin, John Chamberlain, Robert Irwin and many others - it requires attention. These are experience and environmental works that can't be reproduced in a photograph anyway. This does make it difficult to share my experience in this video, but I can talk about these works which is probably more important anyway. Also related: ? Minimalism

This weekend I'm headed to Marfa, TX. Why? The main reason is Donald Judd. Judd is one of the leading minimilist artists from the 1970's and 1980's. While working in New York City, he started purchasing property in West Texas to display his large scale environmental works. Today, Chinati features works by Judd as well as Dan Flavin, Claes Oldenberg and Robert Irwin. I'm going to be vlogging my trip over the next few days. But before I do we need to discuss minimalism. Panasonic S1, S1R :: First Impressions

Panasonic has officially debuted the first 2 mirrorless cameras for its full frame, mirrorless L mount - the Panasonic S1 and S1R. Or at least they sponsored an event which had cameras that sort of worked. Despite the lack of final firmware and the minimal shooting time for those who attended, we do at least have a preview of what these cameras will do. I feel fairly optimistic. Panasonic Lumix is going to be a major player this year in the mirrorless camera market. Switching to an iPad for PHOTO and VIDEO editing?!?

Can I actually use my iPhone and my iPad Pro to replace work that I do on my iMac? The bulk of the work I do on a computer centers around photography and video. The idea of working on mobile is attractive to me because I spend a good amount of the year traveling. When I?m not traveling, I find myself back in the office chained to the desk for long hours of editing. Ideally if I could find a way to make mobile devices actually work for me, I could be more productive and have more freedom to be present in the moment - not chained to a computer. Apple is now showing some real promise for a graphics intensive workflow - if you don't mind a few workarounds. Fired from CANON! The Instagram Problem

A recent video and article have been going around recently claiming a photographer was dropped from a job for Canon because she didn't have 50,000 followers on Instagram. This video really got my attention - in fact, it made me angry because not only is the information not clear - its suspect. And its generally wrong. I have a few thoughts on the matter? My ULTRA WIDE ANGLE lens filter system ARRIVED!

I've got some amazing things in the mail I want to share with you all today. I've talked a lot about Wine Country Camera filters in my videos. Its a really unique filter system designed for high-end architectural and landscape photography applications. I'm good friends with the owner, Rod Clark and he just sent me the new 150 Filter Holder. The 150 is designed for wide-angle lenses that don't have filter threading. The attachment for the filter holder goes over the lens and tightens into place. The attachment is made of glass-filled nylon so its extremely tough but also as light as a feather. These are made on an industrial 3D printer so they can produce these for very unconventional lenses and have them in production in as little as 3 weeks. If you're interested in Wine Country - check out the website and use offer code AOP to save 15% off of anything and everything in their store. http://www.winecountry.camera Thanks to all who sent me books this week - check them out here! Creative Photography vs Technical Photography

Photography is a mix of many disciplines - it includes a creative component on top of physics, chemistry, electronics and other various sciences. We live in an age where we have more technology coming out than we actually use. In some ways we are spoiled to this and its made us lazy in the effort that we put into creating images. So in this video, I'd like to raise a discussion about where the boundary is between the technical and the creative sides of our art. Where is it for you? We need to clear up AUTOFOCUS on the SONY A6400

This week I had the opportunity to test out the new real-time autofocus on the Sony a6400. The results are interesting. Gear used in this video Sony a6400 https://goo.gl/Ec1j6x Atomos Ninja V https://goo.gl/RvTZ7H The Sony a6400 is the first camera to use what Sony calls "Real Time Tracking Autofocus" which essentially adds pattern and color recognition to its AI autofocus system in addition to face detection and Eye AF. This allows for subjects that might turn or pass behind an object as the camera stays in focus on that subject. It works and its not bad - especially considering the price point. The one area that's problematic is in the graphic display that tells you what its focusing it on. I'll explain in this video. #SonyA6400 #autofocus #HandsOnReview Check out my other videos: ? New SONY A6400 :: The Best Vlog Ever

This week Sony flew me to San Diego for the release of the Sony a6400 which is the new APS-C, entry level mirrorless camera in the Alpha lineup. Pre-order yours at B&H https://goo.gl/Ec1j6x The big new features on this camera are a 180 degree flip screen, unlimited recording in video mode, an HLG picture profile and object tracking/AI integrated autofocus. This is an interesting release from Sony as it seems they have upgraded the a6300 and a6500 cameras specifically targeted at vlogging, but the autofocus system additions push this camera over the top for me. While they're not nearly as fast as the Sony a9, they do offer a new range of flexibility if you wish to track your subject in real time. The artificial intelligence algorithms intelligently track subjects with the ability to recognize color patterns in addition to face detection and eye detection. This opens up a considerable amount of accuracy in tracking subjects for things like sports. Also interesting is the battery life is noticeably better on this camera compared to my experience with the Sony a6300 that I currently own. Camrea features: ? 24 megapixel APS-C Exmor CMOS Sensor ? new BIONZ X Image processor ? Real-time Eye-AF and Real-Time Tracking ? Internal UHD 4k video with S-Log 3 and HLG picture profiles ? flip screen ? up to 11 fps shooting #Sony #SonyAlpha #BeAlpha #SonyA6400 This video is sponsored by Squarespace. Nikon's new MIRRORLESS wide angle ZOOM! Nikkor 14-30mm f/4 S

Today Nikon announced the new Nikkor Z 14-30mm f/4 S ultra-wide zoom lens. As the latest addition to the Nikon Z System of mirrorless cameras, they announced the new ultra-wide zoom lens at CES today. This lens looks amazing. As the Nikon Z system was announced and released over the last few months, one of the glaring missing lenses is a wide angle. As Nikon have announced the lens roadmap over the next 2 years, its nice to see them staying on schedule. I really do think this lens will be the highlight of the system. ? Hot Air Balloon Ride - with a Sony Infrared Camera

Hot air balloon ride with my newly modified Sony NEX-7 camera with full spectrum conversion. Sony were nice enough to convert my older NEX-7 as a full-spectrum camera. This involved removing the infrared and low-pass filters from the sensor to allow light beyond the visual spectrum to be recorded in the image. You can limit this light by using filters on the lens. For these images, I used a 720nm Infrared filter so you're only seeing infrared light. I converted the images to black and white and the results were really surprising! Back when I shot black and white film, I did so because I loved the results you could get by manipulating the exposure and chemical development to get different results. As digital photography became more mainstream, I never got the same enjoyment from digital post production. Digital Cameras are optimized for color output and its just not the same. Using a full spectrum conversion though is the closest we've come to the old film days because you can actually control your end-result in the camera. #SonyAlpha Check out my other videos: ? Fujifilm X-T3 :: Hands On Review

The Fujifilm X-T3 is a powerhouse mirrorless camera featuring up to 30 frames per second burst rate shooting and internal 10-bit video at 4:2:0. Get your's at B&H https://goo.gl/RdUHZm Amazon https://amzn.to/2Smstjz Fujifilm released the X-T3 this year as the successor to the popular X-T2. This is a massive upgrade for both stills and video. The X-T2 was a fantastic camera, but had some limitations in terms of power management. You really did need to purchase the battery grip to enable faster burst rate shooting as well as video recording time and overall performance. The grip allowed the camera to use 3 batteries at once. The Fujifilm X-T3 represents an optimized rethinking of the X-T2. In addition to the brand new, back-side illuminated X-Trans 4 sensor and X Processor, the firmware in the camera has been redesigned as well and you actually get more features than the X-T2 and you can access everything to its fullest potential without having to use the optional battery grip. For shooting stills, the camera now features burst-rate speeds up to 30 fps (with electronic shutter). Autofocus also got a major upgrade with phase detection AF points added across the entire frame. Video is now 10-bit and will record at 4:2:0 internal or 4:2:2 external via the HDMI port. The camera will shoot in f-log as well adding a tremendous amount of flexibility in post production color grading. Future firmware updates will include a HLG (hybrid log gamma) profile as well. And the best part - the Fujifilm X-T3 is actually cheaper than the X-T2 was when it was released. This is an affordable powerhouse of a camera and the best to date in the Fujifilm ecosystem. Fujifilm X-T3 features: ? 26 megapixel APS-C X-Trans BSI CMOS 4 Sensor ? X-Processor 4 with Quad CPU ? 1080p and 4k UHD video up to 60p ? F-log gamma and 10-bit Output ? 2.16 million phase-detection autofocus points ? 0.75x 3.69 million dot OLED viewfinder ? 3 inch, 1.04 million dot, tilting LCD touchscreen ? Extended ISO 80-51200 ? ASTROPHOTOGRAPHY and the SONY 24mm f/1.4 GM Lens Real World Review

The Sony FE 24mm f/1.4 G Master is incredible for Astrophotography. Available from B&H https://goo.gl/HjL1Kc This weekend I was invited to Sedona, AZ for a Sony trip to use the 24mm f/1.4 gm to shoot the night sky. This lens is absolutely incredible - I've had the chance to use it before, but not in an astrophotography setting. Sony SENSOR hack - seeing light differently

I recently had my Sony NEX 7 modified as a full-spectrum camera. Essentially this means the sensor will recognize the visual spectrum in addition to Ultra-violet and Infrared light. By using various filters on the lens, you can achieve some interesting results by limiting the light spectrum for both photography and video. This weekend I'm going on another Sony trip to shoot some astro photography with Stan Moniz. Make sure you check out his channel and subscribe! The BEST LENS money can buy :: Hasselblad 80mm f/1.9

The Hasselblad 80mm f/1.9 is incredible. Its a major addition to the Hasselblad X1D lens lineup in that it has an incredible personality. Available in December 2018 at B&H https://goo.gl/hnLeUZ The Hasselblad X1D is still a fairly young system. Hasselblad has a roadmap of coming lenses and the 80mm f/1.9 is the 6th lens in the lineup. More importantly this lens represents an unusual lens type for medium format in its aperture. There currently is no lens like this available on any native medium format system and that's what makes this special. Hasselblad have developed a new voice and if this is any indication of the future direction, its going to be incredible. ? 80.5mm f/1.9 ? 14 elements in 9 groups ? ANNOUNCED at PhotoPlus (sort of)

You've heard all the camera rumors, but here's another teaser of something coming soon. Last week I was at PhotoPlus Expo 2018 in New York City. You have heard most of the photo rumors as they came out last month at Photokina. We saw the new mirrorless cameras from Nikon and Canon as well as the fixed-lens camera from Zeiss, the Zeiss ZX1. Also on display were the new mirrorless full-frame cameras from Panasonic and the new medium format cameras from Fujifilm and Phase One. Oh yeah - and another announcement from me. More on that soon. Why every photographer needs an ND filter

Neutral Density filters are extremely useful in video and still photography applications when you want to control light and use lower shutter speeds. Check out Blackstone filters at http://www.winecountry.camera/ You can get 15% off of anything in the store by using offer code AOP on checkout. Typically in video you will get the best motion estimation by using a 180 degree shutter. This is double the frame-rate of your video clip. In still photography and landscapes you want to be able to capture motion of things like clouds or water for a dramatic effect. All ND filters are not created equal. Color casts are a huge problem as are distortions from glass inconsistencies. I use only Blackstone filters for this reason. Music is from Epidemic Sound. Photographing the Blue Angels with the Sony A9

I had the opportunity to photograph the Blue Angels at the Miramar air show this weekend when Sony flew me and several journalists to San Diego to work with the Sony A9 and the 400mm f/2.8 lens. I also had the privilege of learning from 2 of the finest aviation photographers working today - Frank Crebas and Larry Grace. They gave me some wonderful tips on how to shoot aviation in broad sunlight. The Sony A9 is simply outstanding. With its stacked CMOS sensor it is capable of shooting raw files at 20 frames a second with no blackout in the viewfinder. More importantly it can adjust the autofocus up to 60 times a second. Fujifilm GFX 50R and 100S announcements!

Fujifilm have announced the GFX 50R and the Fujifilm 100S concept cameras. Both of these are medium format. The GFX 50R is a compact, "rangefinder" style version of their previous camera - the Fujifilm GFX 50S. It brings over the same sensor in a much smaller and more portable configuration. The price point is considerably lower as well. Also added is Bluetooth integration. The Fujifilm GFX 100S concept is a camera to be released in 2019. This is where things get particularly interesting. The 100S will feature a 102 megapixel sensor, IBIS (in-body image stabilization) as well as 4k video and phase detection autofocus across the entire sensor. I'm guessing this will be an entirely new sensor likely not built by Sony. But my favorite announcement today is the Fujifilm partnership with Phase One in the Capture One software. Capture One has not supported any medium format cameras other than Phase One until now. This is a huge step forward. I love Capture One and use it all the time. But this has been a stumbling block for Capture One - they have to support all cameras if they intend to gain traction in the raw image editor application space. Over view of Fujifilm announcements: ? Fujifilm GFX 50R - smaller rangefinder style body, 50 megapixel sensor ? Fujifilm GFX 100S - Concept camera to be released in 2019 ? Capture One support for Fujifilm Medium Format Cameras and film profiles Music is from Epidemic Sound. If you need music for your videos, Epidemic is simply the best in the business. Why you won't succeed in photography

Success requires work. It also requires understanding how to get people's attention. I got a question from a viewer about how to succeed in photography. This individual is somewhat frustrated and its completely understandable. I personally believe that everyone in the world has the power to do anything they want. There are countless people who are proof of this. But the bottom line is that most can't/don't/won't which is why my advice should fire you up even more. ? Define what you are trying to succeed at specifically. Chase that goal, but don't close yourself off to other opportunities. ? Be careful about "creating work for yourself" ? Do the work. This is the most obvious, but its the most difficult. Its also what makes people ultimately give up. Do the work. Music is from Epidemic Sound. What about the Fujifilm 16mm f/1.4 compared to the Sony 24mm f/1.4 G Master

Is the Fujifilm 16mm f/1.4 comparable to the new Sony 24mm f/1.4? In short, its a tough comparison. They both have the same field of view in the end result - one is full frame and the other is designed for APS-C mirrorless. But physically they are 2 different focal lengths. These mean different designs, different intent and so on. But since we're talking about the Fujinon 16mm f/1.4, this is one of my favorite lenses of all time regardless of system. Its an incredible wide angle with excellent contrast, sharpness and bokeh. It has a minimum focusing distance of just under 6 inches and is fast enough to use in low light and get great results. ? 13 elements in 11 groups ? 2 aspherical and 2 extra low dispersion elements ? f/1.4 to f/16 aperture range (22 stops) ? 1/3 stop increments ? 9 blades (rounded diaphragm opening) ? Focus Range ? 15cm to infinity ? filter size - 67mm ? Autofocus Motor: DC coreless Music is from Epidemic Sound. If you need music for your videos, Epidemic is simply the best in the business. How good are Sony lenses?

Sony is making some of the best full frame mirrorless cameras in the world. How do their lenses stack up to the other options? The last 2 mirrorless lenses that Sony has produced have shown us the direction things will be going in the next few years. Not only are the designs extremely innovative but also the materials used in these lenses. Sony have a method of producing XA elements, or Extreme Aspherical elements in a way where they can both dial in the clarity of bokeh in an image and also reduce sagittal flaring issues in astro photography. XA elements are made by molding glass, not grinding. So there is a much greater control to smoothness to tolerances of 0.01 microns. Bokeh is also controlled with the use of 11 aperture blades over the traditional 9 (Canon uses 8). This allows you to maintain a circular aperture when stopping down slightly to get a better optical performance out of the lens. And finally Sony has created essentially a solid state camera with the development of direct drive super sonic wave motors that are used in the autofocus system. This allows for faster, more accurate and quiet autofocus. Music is from Epidemic Sound. If you need music for your videos, Epidemic is simply the best in the business.
