The Black Chapel All Things Black Sabbath Ep 20 "Earth The Legendary Lost Tapes"
Early recordings made by the band Earth, formed in 1968 out of The Polka Tulk Blues Band. It consisted of Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward before they changed their name to what would become Black Sabbath. The band was more centered on hard blues rock before they pioneered the heavy metal sound.
The Black Chapel-All Things Sabbath Ep 19 "ELF" The Band (Ronnie James Dio) Debut Album
Elf is the first studio album by Ronnie James Dio's blues rock band called Elf. Produced by Ian Paice and Roger Glover of Deep Purple, the record was released in 1972.
On this album, Dio is credited by his birth name, Ronald Padavona. Though Dio had used "Padavona" for songwriting credits on earlier singles, Dio explained in an interview in 1994 that he used his birth name on this album as a tribute to his parents so that they could see their family name on an album at least once.[4]
After this album, Steve Edwards replaced David Feinstein on guitar, and Craig Gruber took over bass duties, leaving Dio solely as the lead singer. This future lineup, minus Edwards, became the first incarnation of Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow when guitarist Ritchie Blackmore formed it after leaving Deep Purple

?Purpendicular? is not only the name of the 15th album by the legendary rock band Deep Purple. It is also the name of a band that celebrates the 1970s rock phenomenon. Founded in 2007 by Robby Thomas Walsh, the band features none other than Deep Purple founding member Ian Paice on drums on Purpendicular?s fourth studio album.
Review from "https://markusheavymusicblog.org/2025/10/10/review-purpendicular-feat-ian-paice-banned/"
The title of this album is ?Banned?, a record featuring nine songs. A closer look at the cover artwork reveals that the last two letters before the final ?D? have been crossed out, which is connected to the background of this release.
The band met in a remote location in the mountains near Porto, Portugal, where a fire broke out on the first night. Having been rescued from this devastating experience and having watched the fire from a safer place, the band had additional thoughts about the concept of ?Banned?. The idea was to address a sensitive time when words could get you banned in an instant. Having experienced such a dramatic situation that night, the band broadened their perspective.
Songs like the title track are statements for freedom of speech, while ?Blood Red Moon? is more connected to the recent experience.
Musically, Purpendicular leaves no doubt as to where the inspiration comes from. Robby Thomas Walsh?s voice is stunningly close to the iconic voice of Ian Gillan, yet he has his own identity, as can be heard during the progressively swinging title track.
?Inferno? starts the album and it is a peaceful and keyboard driven beginning that reminded me in parts of Pink Floyds? sound before handing over things seamlessly to the grooving ?The Beast?. The latter is one of the darker tunes on the album, alongside true homages to the iconic classic rock band in songs like ?You Better Behave? and the throbbing ?Too Hard to Please?.
Purpendicular are a band inspired by the sound of Deep Purple and 1970s rock. Their music features classic rock riffs and the signature sound of the Hammond organ. At the same time, they have found their own musical identity, avoiding the pitfall of copying the artists that inspired them, a quality that is reflected in the song ?Seventies Kid?.
?The End? is an emotional milestone of the album the band placed at the end of the tracklist. Walsh?s expressive vocals are a key element of this immediately touching song.
?Banned? is an exciting album that will delight fans of classic rock. It captures the spirit of the 1970s in a contemporary context. Well-crafted music and emotional intensity come together to create a standout album.

Episode 40 Rainbow An Independent Critcal Review Pt1
This entry in the "Inside" rockumentary DVD series focuses on Rainbow's golden years from 1975-1979. As such, it covers just three studio albums and one live album. A flurry of generally fawning rock critics and musicians begin by telling us at length what a wonderful guitar player Ritchie Blackmore was/is. Fortunately these experts are subsequently afforded space to justify their assertions through anecdotes, recollections and analysis. Whether we actually need someone to tell us that Ritchie can be "moody at times" or that his relationship with the other members of his bands could be difficult is far from certain though. Coverage of Rainbow as such only starts 12 minutes into the 55 minute programme, the scene setting focusing on Ritchie's past lives.
As usual with this series of documentaries, the narrative is interspersed with "previously unseen" archive footage of the band in concert. Most of this is sourced from a WDR (German) TV recording, (probably "Rockpalast") of the band in 1977. It is these clips which are the real meat of the programme. Being an independent and unauthorised production, the DVD seeks to avoid potential copyright issues by keeping the video clips brief. To those unfamiliar with this series, and even those who have already experienced other editions, this can be rather frustrating. The extracts simply act as teasers, leaving the viewer wanting to see at least one complete track. In an early touch of irony, the opening video extract is of the band performing Deep Purple's "Mistreated".
On the narrative side, there really is nothing here we did not already know. There's no spilling of the beans, and the vast majority of the input simply seeks to say how wonderful it all is. Among the musicians who add their thoughts are several members of Mostly Autumn, presumably due to their tenuous link with Rainbow through vocalist Dougie White who sang with the band in the 1990's. Producer Pip Williams probably offers the best in the way of analysis, and I am not saying that just because he is wearing a Uriah Heep cap throughout!
Starting with the debut album, actually by Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow (as opposed to just Rainbow), the first three studio albums are discussed and analysed. The general agreement is that "Rising" is the best of the bunch, and that the track "Stargazer" from that album is the band's best song. When discussing "Long live rock and roll", the feature track "Gates of Babylon" presents a problem for the programme producers, as it was never performed live. Instead, we get some random scenic footage to accompany the music. The live album "On stage" divides opinions most, with some feeling it is a classic live album while others see it as a missed opportunity.
The only other band member apart from Ritchie get individual attention is Cozy Powell, whose "1812 overture (Over the top)" solo spot is briefly featured.
In all, a decent entry in the "Inside (the band)" series, which, while suffering from the usual all too brief clips of the band performing, offers a reasonable summary of Rainbow's early years.
