What Should I Do If I'm Nervous About a New Grade or New Teacher? | Carpooling with Jesus Bonus

A new grade. A new teacher. A new everything. For a lot of kids, the last week of summer comes with a stomachache that isn't really a stomachache. It's nerves. In this back-to-school bonus episode of Carpooling with Jesus, Pastor Justin gives kids honest permission to feel nervous, then hands them a simple, repeatable way to deal with it.

Anchored in Philippians 4:6-7 and the story of Joshua (who got the most nerve-racking first day in the Bible when God handed him Moses's job), this episode walks kids through naming their worries, handing each one to God with thanks, and walking in to find one friendly face. The promise of the verse is the whole point: when you give God the worry, He guards you with a peace that doesn't even make sense.

Scripture: Philippians 4:6-7 (CSB) | Supporting: Joshua 1:9

PARENT ACTION STEP

The night before the first day (or the night before anything new), sit with your kid and do step two together: have them name each worry out loud, and pray over each one by name, adding a thank-you. You're not just calming them for one morning. You're teaching them the lifelong pattern: name it, hand it to God, walk in with His peace.

QUESTIONS TO ASK YOUR CHILD

1. What's one thing you're nervous about for this school year? Say it out loud.

2. What's one thing you're actually excited about?

3. Philippians 4:6-7 says to hand God your worries with a thank-you. Why do you think the thank-you part matters?

4. Joshua got a brand-new, scary job, and God told him, "I'm with you wherever you go." How does it help to know God is already in your new classroom?

5. What's the difference between being nervous and something actually being wrong?

6. Which step feels most doable: naming the worries, handing them to God, or finding one friendly face?

7. Who is someone else who might be nervous on the first day? What could you do to help them?

SIGNS TO WATCH FOR (PARENTS)

- Stomachaches, headaches, or trouble sleeping in the days before school with no medical cause.

- More clinginess, irritability, or meltdowns than usual as the start date gets close.

- Repeated what-if questions about the new teacher, class, or schedule.

- Avoiding talk about school altogether, or insisting they "don't care" about going back.

July 31 | First Day Eve Courage | Carpooling with Jesus Devotional for Kids

Hey Carpool Crew,

Tomorrow's a big day. A brand-new year, a fresh start, and that excited-nervous swirl that comes the night before, with the backpack already packed by the door. Today on Carpooling with Jesus, Pastor Justin opens Deuteronomy 31:6, where God says be strong and courageous, because He goes with you and will not leave you. Notice why God says be brave. Not because the day will be easy, but because He's going ahead into every part of it. Your kid isn't walking into tomorrow alone, hoping it goes okay. God is already there.

This Friday episode hands kids three things to try this week: pray one honest sentence the night before and hand the worry to God, whisper a quick prayer before walking in to be brave, and ask the heart question, do I think I have to face tomorrow alone, or do I believe God's already there? About 5 minutes, kid-friendly, with a discussion question to land on together.

Today's One Thing: You can be brave on the first day because God goes ahead of you.

July 30 | The Listening Superpower | Carpooling with Jesus Devotional for Kids

Hey Carpool Crew,

A new year is almost here, and everybody's thinking about being smart and doing well. But there's one skill that makes a kid better at almost everything, and hardly anybody talks about it: listening. Today on Carpooling with Jesus, Pastor Justin opens James 1:19, where God says everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger. Notice the order. Quick to listen comes first. When a kid really listens, people feel loved, friends trust them more, and they even hear God better, because hearing Him starts with getting quiet and paying attention.

This Thursday episode hands kids three things to try this week: set down whatever's in your hands and listen all the way to the end, whisper a quick morning prayer to be quick to listen, and ask the heart question, am I waiting for my turn to talk, or am I really hearing people? About 5 minutes, kid-friendly, with a discussion question to land on together.

Today's One Thing: Being quick to listen is a superpower God wants to grow in you.

July 29 | Pick Your One Word for the School Year | Carpooling with Jesus Devotional for Kids

Hey Carpool Crew,

A whole new year is almost here, and that can feel huge to a kid. Be better, try harder, do everything right. It's too much to aim at all at once, and most of it slips away by the second week. Today on Carpooling with Jesus, Pastor Justin opens Philippians 3:14, where Paul aimed at one goal and kept pressing toward it. Your kid doesn't have to fix everything this year. They just need one good word to aim at, picked with God, like brave, kind, honest, or steady. One word is something a kid can remember on the hardest day.

This Wednesday episode hands kids three things to try this week: ask God for one word and write it where you'll see it, whisper a quick prayer each morning to aim at it, and ask the heart question, am I trying to fix everything at once, or will I trust God with one good word at a time? About 5 minutes, kid-friendly, with a discussion question to land on together.

Today's One Thing: Pick one word with God to aim at all year long.

BONUS Daniel Ep 1: Taken From Home | Carpooling with Heroes of the Bible | Carpooling with Jesus

Hey Carpool Crew,

Most kids know Daniel because of the lions. But long before the lions' den, Daniel was a teenager who got taken from his home. Today on Carpooling with Heroes of the Bible, Pastor Justin starts a brand-new five-episode journey with Daniel by going back to the very beginning, when King Nebuchadnezzar conquered Jerusalem and marched Daniel and his three friends hundreds of miles to Babylon.

Babylon tried to erase everything about them, even giving them new names to push God out. But Daniel learned the truth that held him steady for the rest of his life: God had not stayed back in Jerusalem. God went to Babylon too. Daniel had been taken from his home, but he had not been taken from his God.

This episode is for every kid who has ever felt dropped somewhere new and scary, a new school, a new house, a back-and-forth between two homes, a new team where they knew no one. About 10 minutes, kid-friendly, with a real-life takeaway parents can talk through on the drive.

Today's One Thing: You can be dropped somewhere new and scary and still belong to God. He goes where you go.

Scripture: Daniel 1:6 (CSB)

The arc: Episode 1: Taken From Home Episode 2: The Food Test (Who You Are When No One's Watching) Episode 3: The Law Against Praying Episode 4: A Night in the Lions' Den Episode 5: The King Who Praised God

July 28 | The Empty Backpack Prayer | Carpooling with Jesus Devotional for Kids

Hey Carpool Crew,

There's something about a brand-new empty backpack. It's not full of anything yet. It's just sitting there, full of a whole year that hasn't happened. Today on Carpooling with Jesus, Pastor Justin opens Psalm 32:8, where God promises to instruct us, show us the way, and keep His eye on us. Before a single day of the year happens, God is already promising to lead a kid through it. That empty backpack is a perfect picture of a year your kid can hand straight to God before it even starts.

This Tuesday episode hands kids three things to try this week: pray out loud over the empty backpack, whisper a quick prayer when the new year feels scary, and ask the heart question, do I think I have to carry this whole year alone, or will I let God lead it? About 5 minutes, kid-friendly, with a discussion question to land on together.

Today's One Thing: Hand God your empty backpack and ask Him to lead the new year.

July 27 | The Friend You Want to Be This Year | Carpooling with Jesus Devotional for Kids

Hey Carpool Crew,

Summer's almost done, and a new year is right around the corner. Here's something most kids never realize: they get a say in what kind of friend they're going to be this year. It's not just something that happens to them. It's something they can decide. Today on Carpooling with Jesus, Pastor Justin opens Proverbs 27:17, where iron sharpens iron. The right kind of friend doesn't just hang around, they make each other better. Your kid isn't just looking for good friends this year. They get to be one, the kid who walks over to the one who's left out and says, come sit with us.

This Monday episode hands kids three things to try this week: decide out loud one kind of friend you want to be, whisper a quick prayer to see who needs a friend, and ask the heart question, am I just looking for good friends, or am I willing to be one? About 5 minutes, kid-friendly, with a discussion question to land on together.

Today's One Thing: You get to choose what kind of friend you'll be this school year.

July 24 | When You Didn't Get Picked | Carpooling with Jesus Devotional for Kids

Hey Carpool Crew,

Getting passed over stings way more than it should. A kid stands there acting like it's fine, but inside it hurts. Today on Carpooling with Jesus, Pastor Justin opens Psalm 34:18, where the Lord is near the brokenhearted. When a kid's heart cracks, God doesn't back away. He leans in closer, which is the exact opposite of how it feels. Not getting picked by people does not mean a kid isn't wanted by God. People can overlook them. God never does.

This Friday episode hands kids three things to try this week: tell God exactly how the hurt feels instead of stuffing it, whisper a quick prayer that God is near, and ask the heart question, do I let one not-picked moment tell me I'm worth less, or do I let God tell me the truth? About 5 minutes, kid-friendly, with a discussion question to land on together.

Today's One Thing: God is closest to you when your feelings are hurt.

July 23 | When You Miss Someone This Summer | Carpooling with Jesus Devotional for Kids

Hey Carpool Crew,

Summer makes friendships go quiet. People travel, they're at camp, families get busy, and the friend a kid saw every day is suddenly gone for a while. That quiet can feel scary, like something's wrong. Today on Carpooling with Jesus, Pastor Justin opens Proverbs 17:17, where a friend loves at all times, which includes the quiet ones. Quiet is not the same as over. A friendship can go silent for a season and still be alive underneath. The real question isn't whether a friend went quiet. It's what kind of friend your kid will be while it's quiet.

This Saturday episode hands kids three things to try this week: send one kind message with no pressure, whisper a quick prayer to be a steady friend, and ask the heart question, do I drop people the second things get quiet, or do I love at all times? About 5 minutes, kid-friendly, with a discussion question to land on together.

Today's One Thing: A real friend keeps loving even through the quiet stretches.

July 22 | Who You Are When Nobody's Telling You What to Do | Carpooling with Jesus Devotional for Kids

Hey Carpool Crew,

Summer does something funny. When nobody's handing kids a list, it's easy for them to forget who they are and just float through the day. Today on Carpooling with Jesus, Pastor Justin opens Ephesians 2:10, where we are God's workmanship, made on purpose for good works God planned ahead of time. A kid's worth doesn't switch on when a grown-up hands them an assignment. It was baked in all along. The empty day isn't a test of whether they matter. It's a blank page where the real them gets to show up.

This Wednesday episode hands kids three things to try this week: do one good thing on an empty day without being told, whisper a quick prayer of thanks for being made on purpose, and ask the heart question, do I only feel like somebody when someone's telling me what to do? About 5 minutes, kid-friendly, with a discussion question to land on together.

Today's One Thing: You are God's handiwork, even when no one is telling you what to do.

July 21 | Three Thanks Beats Grumpy | Carpooling with Jesus Devotional for Kids

Hey Carpool Crew,

Some days a grumpy mood rolls in like a cloud and parks right over a kid's head, no real reason needed. Today on Carpooling with Jesus, Pastor Justin opens 1 Thessalonians 5:18, where we give thanks in everything, not for everything. Grumpy makes the brain hunt for what's wrong. Thankful makes it hunt for what's right. They can't both run the show. So when a kid names three real thank-yous, the grumpy has to start scooting over.

This Tuesday episode hands kids three things to try this week: name three real thank-yous when a grumpy mood parks over you, whisper a quick prayer to see what's good, and ask the heart question, am I letting one bad thing block out all the good things? About 5 minutes, kid-friendly, with a discussion question to land on together.

Today's One Thing: Naming three thank-yous can turn a grumpy day around.

July 20 | The Boredom Treasure Hunt | Carpooling with Jesus Devotional for Kids

Hey Carpool Crew,

Somewhere in the middle of summer, kids hit the slump where every day feels the same and they're just bored. Today on Carpooling with Jesus, Pastor Justin opens Proverbs 25:2, where God loves to conceal a good thing and then call us to go investigate. Boredom isn't the end of the fun. It might be the invitation right before it. God tucks good things nearby, not to keep them from us, but because He loves the joy of us finding them.

This Monday episode hands kids three things to try this week: go on a treasure hunt instead of waiting for fun to arrive, whisper a quick prayer to be shown something good, and ask the heart question, am I waiting to be entertained or willing to go looking? About 5 minutes, kid-friendly, with a discussion question to land on together.

Today's One Thing: Boredom can be a treasure hunt for the good God hides in plain sight.

July 17 | The Long Car Ride Honor Test | Carpooling with Jesus Devotional for Kids

Hey Carpool Crew,

Anybody can be respectful when everything's easy. The real test is the hard moment. Today on Carpooling with Jesus, Pastor Justin opens Ephesians 6:1-2, where the Bible tells kids to honor their father and mother. Honor means treating someone like they matter, with your words and your tone and your attitude. And the moment it counts most is the inconvenient one, when you're tired and you'd rather grumble.

This Friday episode hands kids three things to try this week: do what your parents ask without the sigh and the eye roll, whisper a quick prayer when the grumble comes, and ask the heart question, do I only honor my parents when it's easy? About 5 minutes, kid-friendly, with a discussion question to land on together.

Today's One Thing: Honoring your parents counts most when it's inconvenient.

July 16 | When Your Sibling Is Driving You Crazy | Carpooling with Jesus Devotional for Kids

Hey Carpool Crew,

You can't pick your siblings, you can't return them, and in the summer you're stuck with them a whole lot. Today on Carpooling with Jesus, Pastor Justin opens Romans 12:18, where the Bible says to live at peace as far as it depends on you. Kids can't control whether a brother or sister calms down. They can control their part. And often, when one person stops adding wood to the fire, the fire starts to go out.

This Thursday episode hands kids three things to try this week: be the one who stops adding to it even if they started it, whisper a quick prayer before firing back, and ask the heart question, do I want to win the fight or do I want the peace? About 5 minutes, kid-friendly, with a discussion question to land on together.

Today's One Thing: Do your part to keep the peace, even when it's hard.

Today on Carpooling with Jesus, Pastor Justin opens Colossians 3:12, where the Bible says to put on kindness like clothes. Kindness isn't just a feeling that shows up. It's something a kid chooses to wear, even on a loud, crowded day, and the people we get the most chances to practice on are usually right in our own house.

This Wednesday episode hands kids three things to try this week: picture kindness like a jacket and put it on before you speak, whisper a quick prayer when you feel the snap coming, and ask the heart question, am I only kind when it's easy? About 5 minutes, kid-friendly, with a discussion question to land on together.

Today's One Thing: Put on kindness like clothes, especially with family.

July 14 | When the Trip Goes Sideways | Carpooling with Jesus Devotional for Kids

Hey Carpool Crew,

A plan you were counting on falls apart, and it can wreck a kid's whole mood in two seconds. Today on Carpooling with Jesus, Pastor Justin opens Proverbs 16:9, where we plan our way but the Lord determines our steps. Even when the day goes sideways, God hasn't lost control for one second. The plan changed. He didn't. And some of the best days of the summer are the ones that didn't go the way anybody wanted.

This Tuesday episode hands kids three things to try this week: take a breath and ask God what to do with the day instead, whisper a one-sentence prayer when that crushed feeling comes, and ask the heart question, do I think a day is only good if it goes exactly my way? About 5 minutes, kid-friendly, with a discussion question to land on together.

Today's One Thing: We make plans, but God is still in charge when they fall apart.

July 13 | What to Say to Grandparents | Carpooling with Jesus Devotional for Kids

Hey Carpool Crew,

Talking to grandparents can feel a little awkward, and a lot of kids freeze up. Today on Carpooling with Jesus, Pastor Justin opens Proverbs 16:31, where gray hair is called a glorious crown. The best gift a kid can give an older person isn't the perfect thing to say. It's actually listening. Ask one real question, then truly pay attention to the answer, and watch their whole face light up.

This Monday episode hands kids three things to try this week: ask an older person one real question and listen, whisper a quick prayer when they get antsy, and ask the heart question, do I treat older people like they're in my way or like a crown worth honoring? About 5 minutes, kid-friendly, with a discussion question to land on together.

Today's One Thing: Honoring older people starts with really listening to them.

July 10 | When Telling the Truth Is Hard | Carpooling with Jesus Devotional for Kids

Hey Carpool Crew,

The second a kid messes up, the brain starts building a story to stay out of trouble. Today on Carpooling with Jesus, Pastor Justin opens Ephesians 4:25 and reframes honesty for kids. We belong to each other like one family, so telling the truth, even the hard truth, is one of the ways we actually love the people around us. A lie protects you for a minute. The truth protects the people you love for a long time.

This Friday episode hands kids three things to try this week: tell the truth about something they've been hiding before it gets heavier, whisper a one-sentence prayer for courage, and ask the heart question, am I being honest to protect myself or because I love them? About 5 minutes, kid-friendly, with a discussion question to land on together.

Today's One Thing: Telling the truth is one way we love the people around us.

July 9 | When You're Scared to Try | Carpooling with Jesus Devotional for Kids

Hey Carpool Crew,

Twisty stomach, feet that won't move. Every kid knows the feeling of wanting to try something and being scared to. Today on Carpooling with Jesus, Pastor Justin opens Isaiah 41:10, where God says I will be with you, I will strengthen you, I will hold on to you. The Bible never tells kids to feel brave out of nowhere. It tells them God is with them, and that's where the brave comes from.

This Thursday episode hands kids three things to try this week: take one small first step toward a thing they've been scared of, whisper a one-sentence prayer right before the scary part, and learn that you take the step with God first and the brave shows up on the way. About 5 minutes, kid-friendly, with a discussion question to land on together.

Today's One Thing: You don't have to be brave alone, because God is with you.

July 8 | The Kindness Nobody Sees | Carpooling with Jesus Devotional for Kids

Hey Carpool Crew,

The second we do something nice, most of us want a little credit for it. Today on Carpooling with Jesus, Pastor Justin opens Luke 6:35 and shows kids a different kind of kindness, the kind that expects nothing back. The good you do when nobody is watching is the good that looks the most like God, and He never misses a single quiet, hidden one.

This Wednesday episode hands kids three things to try this week: do one kind thing they keep totally secret, hand the credit to God instead of waiting for it, and ask the heart question, would I still do it if no one ever found out? About 5 minutes, kid-friendly, with a discussion question to land on together.

Today's One Thing: The best kindness is the kind that expects nothing back.

July 7 | Doing Hard Things When Nobody's Checking | Carpooling with Jesus Devotional for Kids

Hey Carpool Crew,

Every kid knows the temptation to do a job halfway when nobody's checking. Today on Carpooling with Jesus, Pastor Justin opens Colossians 3:23 and flips the whole thing around. The main person your kid is working for isn't a parent, coach, or teacher. It's God, and that changes even the boring stuff into something worth doing all the way.

This Tuesday episode hands kids three things to try this week: pick one job and do every part of it like it's for God, say one short prayer when they want to quit halfway, and ask the heart question, who am I really working for? About 5 minutes, kid-friendly, with a discussion question to land on together.

Today's One Thing: Do your work for God, even when no one is watching.

July 6 | Your Backyard Is a Cathedral | Carpooling with Jesus Devotional for Kids

Hey Carpool Crew,

The most amazing thing around your kid might be the stuff they walk past every day. Today on Carpooling with Jesus, Pastor Justin opens Psalm 19:1 and helps kids see that the sky over their own backyard is bigger than any cathedral people could build. Creation is always announcing how great God is, if we slow down enough to look.

This Monday episode hands kids three things to try this week: find one thing they've never really looked at and thank God for it, stare at the night sky for one full minute with no screen, and slow down instead of rushing past the ordinary. About 5 minutes, kid-friendly, with a discussion question to land on together.

Today's One Thing: Creation is always pointing to God, even in your own backyard.

July 3 | Why Did Jesus Have to Die? | Carpooling with Jesus Devotional for Kids

Hey Carpool Crew,

Freedom Week hits the big question today: why did Jesus have to die? On Carpooling with Jesus, Pastor Justin opens Romans 5:8 and explains the cross to kids the way they can actually picture it. Every wrong thing we do runs up a bill too big to pay. Jesus stepped in and paid the whole thing Himself, not because anyone made Him, but because He wanted us with Him.

This Friday episode hands kids three things to try this week: say one thank-you sentence to Jesus out loud, stop hiding when you mess up because the bill is already paid, and ask the heart question, am I trying to earn God's love or do I believe Jesus already covered it? About 5 minutes, kid-friendly, with a discussion question to land on together.

Today's One Thing: Jesus paid the price so you could go free.

July 2 | Free to Do Right When Nobody's Watching | Carpooling with Jesus Devotional for Kids Devotional

Hey Carpool Crew,

Freedom Week rolls into day two with the question every kid runs into all summer long: what do I do when nobody's watching? Today on Carpooling with Jesus, Pastor Justin opens 1 Peter 2:16, where Peter says being free was never meant to be a cover-up for doing wrong. Real freedom shows up in the quiet, unsupervised moments, when doing right is completely your own call.

This Thursday episode hands kids three things to try this week: do one right thing on purpose when nobody's watching, pray three quick words when you feel the pull to hide something, and ask the heart question, am I the same kid with the door shut as I am when everybody's looking? About 5 minutes, kid-friendly, with a discussion question to land on together.

Today's One Thing: Who you are when nobody's watching is the real you. Jesus set you free to do right even then, not to sneak.

July 1 | What Freedom Really Means | Kids Devotional for kids Carpooling with Jesus

Hey Carpool Crew,

Summer is wide open, and so is the big question every kid eventually asks: if I could do anything I wanted, what would I do? Today on Carpooling with Jesus, Pastor Justin kicks off Freedom Week with Galatians 5:1, where Paul says Christ set us free. Free, it turns out, was never about doing whatever you want. It's about finally being able to do what's right.

This Wednesday episode hands kids three things to try this week: pick one right thing nobody's making you do, pray three quick words when you feel the tug to do wrong, and ask the heart question, am I trying to earn God's love or do I already have it? About 5 minutes, kid-friendly, with a discussion question to land on together.

Today's One Thing: Jesus didn't break your chains so you could run wild. He broke them so you could turn around and do the right thing.

June 30 | Refilling Your Faith Tank | Carpooling with Jesus | Daily Christian Devotional Podcast for Kids

Hey Carpool Crew,

Last day of June. Your kid has spent a month at camp, on the road, with siblings, in cabins, in hotel beds, at grandma's. They are probably running on fumes. Today on Carpooling with Jesus, Pastor Justin walks kids through Isaiah 40:31, the verse with eagle wings in it. The kind that fills a kid up instead of just patching them up. You can't run the second half of summer on yesterday's energy.

This Tuesday episode gives kids three real moves for refilling. The four-word prayer move. The plug-in-first move. The God-not-screens move. About 5 minutes, kid-friendly, with a discussion question to land on together.

Today's One Thing: Whispering "God, fill me" is the move when your tank is empty.

June 29 | Halfway Through Summer Check-in | Carpooling with Jesus Devotional for Kids

Hey Carpool Crew Parents,

This week is the bridge. June is almost done. July is about to start. Your kid is basically at halftime of summer. Today's episode walks them into the locker room for a quick check-in instead of letting them coast or quit.

Pastor Justin walks through 2 Corinthians 4:16 and gives kids a frame for honestly evaluating June without shame. Whether their first half was great or rough, halftime is not for quitting. It is for refilling. Three small ways to step into the second half on purpose.

About six minutes long, kid-friendly, ready to talk about together. Press play in the carpool or at the kitchen table.

Today's One Thing: Halftime is for refilling, not quitting.

June 26 | Being a Good Cabin-mate | Carpooling with Jesus Devotional for Kids

Hey Carpool Crew,

Night three at camp. The lights are off. Somebody starts ripping on the kid in bunk five for crying earlier. Three kids laugh. Your kid feels a sentence forming. They can join in. They can stay quiet. Or they can say one sentence that shuts it down. Today on Carpooling with Jesus, Pastor Justin walks kids through Romans 12:10, where Paul tells believers in Rome to take the lead in honoring one another. The cabin is the perfect place to learn it.

This Friday episode gives kids three real moves to try inside their cabin. The learn-every-name move. The shut-it-down move. The do-the-thing-nobody-asked move. About 5 minutes, kid-friendly, with a discussion question to land on together.

Today's One Thing: Being the kid who shuts down the mean joke is what a real leader looks like.

June 25 | When Camp Food Is Gross | Carpooling with Jesus Devotional for Kids

Hey Carpool Crew,

The pasta is soft. The mystery casserole is hard to identify. The eggs look kind of green. Your kid sits down to a tray they did not pick, and their face starts to make the face before they can stop it. Today on Carpooling with Jesus, Pastor Justin walks kids through 1 Corinthians 10:31, where Paul ends a long teaching about food with one massive sentence. Whatever you eat. Whatever you drink. Whatever you do. Do it for God. The "whatever" is the part most kids miss.

This Thursday episode gives kids three real moves to try at the dining hall. The three-second-thanks move. The no-face move. The find-something-good move. About 5 minutes, kid-friendly, with a discussion question to land on together. Also tonight on the CWJ feed, a brand-new bonus episode of What Should I Do If, all about missing home at camp. June 24 | Making Friends in 24 Hours | Carpooling with Jesus Devotional for Kids

Hey Carpool Crew,

Camp is one of the wildest places on earth for friendship. By day three your kid will probably have an inside joke with somebody who was a stranger 24 hours earlier. But none of it happens unless somebody walks over first. Today on Carpooling with Jesus, Pastor Justin walks kids through Proverbs 18:24 and gives them a vision for being the one who starts the friendship.

This Wednesday episode gives kids three real moves to try at camp. The walk-over-first move. The good-question move. The remember-their-name move. About 5 minutes, kid-friendly, with a discussion question to land on together.

June 23 | Trying the Hard Activity | Carpooling with Jesus Devotional for Kids

Hey Carpool Crew,

The high ropes. The lake jump. The mountain bike trail. The horse. The deep end. Camp puts your kid in front of stuff that scares them a little, and they have about ten seconds to decide whether to try it or sit it out. Today on Carpooling with Jesus, Pastor Justin walks kids through Philippians 4:13, the verse Paul wrote from a prison cell. The point most kids miss is that the strength is not yours. It is loaned. God hands it to you in the moment you need it.

This Tuesday episode gives kids three real moves for the moment the activity is their turn. The verse-whisper move. The next-step-only move. The thank-God-after move. About 5 minutes, kid-friendly, with a discussion question to land on together.

Today's One Thing: You don't have to be strong, you just have to keep going.

BONUS | Joseph - When People Don't Get You | Episode 1 of 5 | Carpooling with Heroes of the Bible

Hey Carpool Crew!

This week we're starting a five-episode journey through the life of Joseph, one of the most surprising heroes in the Bible. In Episode 1, we go back to the beginning. Joseph is seventeen, the favorite son in a complicated family, and God gives him a dream that nobody around him is ready to hear. The reaction is fast and brutal. By the end of Genesis 37, Joseph is sold by his own brothers and headed to Egypt. The dream God gave him is still alive. The people closest to him are not.

For parents listening with your kids: this episode is a doorway into a real conversation about what to do when the people in your child's life don't celebrate what God is doing in them. We name the pain honestly and we anchor it in who God says they are.

Today's One Thing: Sometimes the people closest to you won't understand what God is doing in your life. Stay rooted in who God says you are.

Scripture: Genesis 37:5 (CSB)

The arc:

* Episode 1: When People Don't Get You (Backstory)

* Episode 2: When You're Far From Home (Slavery and Potiphar's house)

* Episode 3: Faithful in the Hard Place (False accusation and prison)

* Episode 4: When God Lifts You Up (Pharaoh and elevation)

* Episode 5: The Forgiveness That Saves a Family (Reunion and legacy)

June 22 | First Day Nerves | Carpooling with Jesus Devotional for Kids

Hey Carpool Crew,

The car drove away ten minutes ago. Your kid is standing in a cabin with a hundred other kids they don't know yet. Sunscreen smell. Suitcase wheels rolling. Somebody else got the top bunk. Today's episode kicks off a brand-new Faith at Camp series for the summer drop-off season. Pastor Justin walks kids through Joshua 1:9, the verse God spoke to Joshua right before he led a whole nation into a place he'd never been. The word "wherever" is the part most kids miss. God is already at camp. He beat them there.

This Monday episode gives kids three real moves to try the first day. The whisper-Joshua move. The look-for-the-other-nervous-kid move. The thank-God-He-beat-you-there move. About 5 minutes, kid-friendly, with a discussion question to land on together.

Today's One Thing: Wherever you go, God is already there waiting.

Scripture: Joshua 1:9 (CSB)

June 19 | Missing Home | Carpooling with Jesus Devotional for Kids

Hey Carpool Crew,

There is a moment in the middle of almost every summer trip where your kid stops being excited and starts going quiet. The pillow at grandma's smells wrong. The hotel light is too bright. The first day was great, but now they just want their bed. Today on Carpooling with Jesus, Pastor Justin walks kids through Psalm 23:4, where David teaches that God is not just in the green pastures, He is in the valley too. Missing home is not a baby feeling. It is a real one. And God is right there in the middle of it.

This Friday episode gives kids three real moves to try when the missing hits. The name-it move. The phone-home move. The whisper move. About 5 minutes, kid-friendly, with a discussion question to land on together.

Today's One Thing: Missing home is real, and God is in the missing too.

Scripture: Psalm 23:4 (CSB)

June 18 | When You Can't Sleep in a New Bed | Carpooling with Jesus Devotional for Kids

Hey Carpool Crew,

Summer means hotel rooms, vacation cabins, sleepovers at grandma's, bunks at camp. It also means kids lying awake in new beds with the AC clicking and the shadows looking weird. Today on Carpooling with Jesus, Pastor Justin walks kids through Psalm 4:8, where David tells us he could sleep in peace anywhere because God came with him. The God who tucks your kids in at home is the same God in every room they'll ever sleep in.

This Thursday episode gives kids three new-bed moves to try. The verse whisper. The same-God move. The prayer-for-someone-else move. About 5 minutes, kid-friendly, with a discussion question to land on together.

Today's One Thing: God is the same in every bedroom you sleep in.

Scripture: Psalm 4:8 (CSB)
