Hey there! How's your weekend going? Can you believe February is flying by already? Here in Kentucky, we're having a weather rollercoaster with snow, spring, and a touch of summer. Personally, I?m so ready for spring - I can't wait to start gardening. Snow? Ugh, I?m over it!
Anyway, I wanted to chat with you about something intriguing. Do you ever find it strange when your folks bomb you with a million questions about your whereabouts? It's like they're super detectives whenever you step out the door. Well, there's a reason for that, and it ties into something bigger?how the world sees autistic individuals, especially when true crime stories hit home.
Let me share with you Alvin Ridley's incredible journey?an autistic man almost wrongfully convicted for murder, just because his behavior was misunderstood. His story is entwined with jaw-dropping courtroom drama, the human condition, and yes, even a sprinkling of humor!
If you're captivated by tales of justice and redemption?or just curious about autism awareness?this episode is one you shouldn't miss. Pour yourself a cup of coffee, settle in, and let?s dive into a story showing why understanding and awareness matter more than ever. Thanks for being here, and enjoy!

Hey guys, hey. Happy Wednesday! How's the week going for you? Over here in Kentucky, we are gearing up for yet another blizzard, and let's just say it's been too much. I'm beyond ready for spring?mainly because driving with a coat on is the worst!
But today, let?s dive into something equally important. We're chatting about caregiver coaching for parents with autistic kids. It's an area that doesn't get enough spotlight; we often focus on resources for the kids and forget about the parents who really need support, too. That's why I'm thrilled to introduce Samantha Wittenberg, who brings a fresh perspective and much-needed guidance.
Samantha is here to sprinkle some of her wisdom and talk about her journey with her daughter, who was late-diagnosed as autistic. If you've ever felt overwhelmed as a parent or caregiver, or unsure about how to keep your own cup full while supporting an autistic child, Samantha's got your back. Her business, Empathy at Work, is all about empowering caregivers with the tools they need?not just to survive, but to thrive.
Plus, we touch on the quirks and challenges of parenting through those teenage years, the difficulties of late diagnosis, and how Samantha found ways to cope and connect with her daughter through the chaos. This isn't just about the kids; it's about the resilience and the unspoken challenges faced by parents and caregivers every day.
Remember guys, there's no cookie-cutter shape or mold when it comes to autism?or parenting. Let's get the conversation going and support each other on this journey.
And hey, don't forget to check out the links in the show notes to keep in touch with Samantha or join our community for even more resources. Stay warm, keep adulting, and I'll see you Saturday!

Hey, friends! Happy Saturday! ? Today, we?re diving into something deeply personal and important?understanding our relationship with alcohol, especially when you're adulting on the autism spectrum. ??
I shared a bit about my son, Z, and our family?s open approach to discussing drinking and its risks, especially since it runs deep on both sides of our family. Whether it?s letting Z experience drinking among family or learning from my own experiences, the goal has always been safety and awareness.
I'm thrilled to welcome Dallas Collis, a guest who has bravely shared his story about battling addiction and finding peace. We talked about everything from societal pressures, the need to mask pain, and how his philosophy of living in the present has been transformative.
This conversation isn?t just for those who face addiction. It?s for everyone questioning why they drink or use substances as a social crutch. Dive into our talk to explore whether you?re drinking for the right reasons and discover how to foster comfort within yourself without alcohol or drugs.
So grab a comfy seat and join us as we chat about these real-life struggles and triumphs. And don't forget to comment, subscribe, and share the love so we can keep these candid chats coming!

Hey guys, hey, happy Monday! I promised you mini-sodes, so here I am, sharing some thoughts that popped into my head. Ever wondered why you parent the way you do? Why not think about stuff like therapy, generational trauma, and how these have shaped us?
If your parental units are in therapy, give them credit! And if you're a parent, remember that healing starts with you. We're diving deep into how our upbringing influences our actions, especially with parents who weren?t perfect but did their best with what they knew.
As a parent myself, I?ve been there, navigating my own quirks and the intricate dance of raising an autistic child. I've found therapy invaluable, especially during the pandemic, and now share tips for others on this path.
So, folks, grant yourself grace and your parents some slack. They probably did the best they could?just like we?re all trying to do. Sometimes, we need an apology and forgiveness to move forward. Therapy helps break cycles and find peace.
Here's your reminder: It takes patience and understanding to embrace imperfections. Let?s lean into family therapy, better communication, and strength as we keep learning, growing, and adulting together. Join me next time, and keep adulting!

I'm chatting with a past acquaintance, the one and only Matthew Lesko, whom I affectionately call the 'question mark guy' because of his iconic suit. He's breaking down barriers and sharing invaluable resources to help young autistic adults and others with disabilities find assistance in the labyrinth of grants and support.
If you've ever felt lost after turning 18 or unsure where to find help for life?s challenges, Matthew?s tips are here to light your way. He?s dishing out the details on three pivotal websites aimed at supporting those with disabilities. While they might not be exclusively for autism or ADHD, they could be just the ticket you need to get on the right path. Let?s unravel these mysteries together, shall we?
