The rules loophole Oregon coach Dan Lanning used to drain time off the clock against Ohio State is getting closed. The NCAA?s coordinator of officials said Tuesday that officials will get the latitude to put time back on the clock if a defense intentionally uses too many players in order to draw a flag.  
 

Next, Indiana coach Curt Cignetti joins the show to discuss how he turned the Hoosiers into a 6-0 team that has yet to even trail in a game this season. Indiana plays Nebraska on Saturday in its toughest game yet. Cignetti explains what kind of players he looked for in the transfer portal when he took the job (because Indiana?s best remaining players hit the portal immediately). He also warns against putting artificial limitations on a program.

Utah quarterback Cam Rising is out for the season after suffering a leg injury against Arizona State. Utes coach Kyle Whittingham was noncommittal about an eighth season for Rising.

 

Also, Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy got head-butted by a cow.

 

SEC commissioner Greg Sankey said officials should have flagged Georgia coach Kirby Smart for bumping Mississippi State?s quarterback on the sideline.

 

Next, Nick Roush of On3?s Kentucky Sports Radio joins to discuss one of the weirdest teams in college football. Kentucky has won at Ole Miss and pushed Georgia to the brink. Kentucky also has gotten smashed by South Carolina and lost to Vanderbilt at home. Mark Stoops says he?s fed up. So which team shows up when the Wildcats play at Florida this weekend?

 

Later, Andy and Ari discuss Oregon coach Lanning?s admission that he purposely put 12 players on the field late in the game against Ohio State in order to drain seconds off the clock. Former Philadelphia Eagles coach Buddy Ryan also exploited this loophole in the 90s.

The big one was in Eugene, where Dan Lanning notched his biggest win as Oregon's head coach as the Ducks beat Ohio State 32-31 to take command in the Big Ten race. But Penn State also remained undefeated after beating USC in overtime.

ESPN reported Monday that the Big Ten and SEC will be seeking more automatic bids in the next version of the College Football Playoff, which begins after the 2026 season.

 

Also, Florida State QB DJ Uiagalelei was listed as a co-starter with Brock Glenn on the depth chart for this week?s Clemson game, but reports emerged Monday night that Uiagalelei has a broken finger on his throwing hand is expected to miss several weeks.

UNLV QB Matthew Sluka announced late Tuesday night that he's leaving the Rebels. The Holy Cross transfer claims certain promises were unfulfilled, so he's going to redshirt and transfer somewhere else for next year. We don't yet know both sides of this story, but be sure this won't be the last time this happens.

 

The Pac-12 sued the Mountain West in federal court on Tuesday claiming the ?poaching fee? included in the leagues? scheduling agreement violates antitrust law. The fees would cost the league $55 million since it has already poached five Mountain West schools.

 

Next, Andy and Ari pick the Kentucky-Ole Miss (-17.5) and Minnesota-Michigan (-9.5).

Speaking of The Money Game, Reggie Bush has sued the NCAA, USC and the Pac-12 in an attempt to recoup damages after being denied the right to make money off his name while in college.
 

Meanwhile, Auburn coach Hugh Freeze keeps saying the wrong things. This time, it?s his assertion that if Auburn and Arkansas played nine more times, Auburn would win nine times. Ari went off on Freeze throwing his quarterbacks under the bus after the Arkansas game. This new statement might set him off more.

 

There?s also a good, old-fashioned western standoff between two west coast conferences. The Pac-12 grabbed Utah State from the Mountain West, leaving both leagues at seven. Both need to be at eight to be eligible for NCAA basketball tournament shares, so the race is on. Memphis, USF, Tulane and UTSA all said Monday that they intend to stay in the American Athletic Conference.

After hearing Mark Stoops? explanation for punting from the Georgia 48-yard line late in Kentucky?s 13-12 loss, Ari is even madder about the decision. Andy, however, has re-examined his initial thoughts through the lens of analytics and now finds himself on Team Stoops.

 

Meanwhile, Michigan coach Sherrone Moore is doing the thing Andy said on Monday?s show that he had to do. The Wolverines will start Alex Orji at quarterback, meaning Michigan will be run-heavy against USC. This is Michigan?s only chance to compete with the better opponents on its schedule. That doesn?t mean it?s going to work, though.

 

Later, the guys discuss Tennessee coach Josh Heupel?s return to Oklahoma. Andy has a question: Did getting fired at Oklahoma have to happen to make Heupel the coach he is today?
