Nonetheless, it's clear that there are dark happenings in Vermissa and someone needs to get to the bottom of it. There's McMurdo's new love, a young woman named Ettie, and a romantic rival for her affections, Ted Baldwin. McMurdo is part of a secret society, the Eminent Order of Freemen - a society that has a dark reputation. Their leader, Boss McGinty, is a cruel man with an iron grip on the town of Vermissa. The plot is thickening, and as it does, let it carry you off into another night of deep and restful sleep.
