The Way of Resilience with Ruth Chou Simons

What if resilience isn?t about being the toughest person in the room, but the most surrendered? In this conversation, Candace and author/artist Ruth Chou Simons continue their Overcoming Anxiety series by exploring a deeply biblical, spiritually honest approach to resilience. Ruth shares why her husband Troy embodies resilience?not because life is easy, but because he treats every failure as ?an opportunity to grow.? Candace reflects on her own journey, including public criticism and misunderstood motives. Together, they break down a countercultural truth: being resilient is less about muscling through and more about walking closely with God. They talk openly about long seasons when Bible reading felt dry or inconsistent, how daily Scripture functions as a slow deposit rather than a quick emotional transaction, and why spiritual disciplines (Bible, prayer, rest, Sabbath) are God?s training plan for endurance. Candace shares how James 1 and the parable of the talents steadied her through some of her hardest public seasons. Ruth vulnerably opens up about losing a long-time ministry partner and the grief, confusion, and rerouting that followed. The episode closes with two tender listener questions?one from 17-year-old Inga about finding time with God before early mornings, and one about learning to hear God in a world full of distractions. If you?ve ever felt worn thin, spiritually tired, or unsure how to keep going, this episode offers companionship, Scripture, and a fresh way to see resilience through the lens of surrender.Connect with Candace and Ruth Candace on Instagram @candacecbure  Follow the Podcast on Instagram @candacecameronburepodcast  Follow the Podcast on TikTok @ccbpodcast Follow Ruth Chou Simons on Instagram: @ruthchousimons Website: https://ruthchousimons.com/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/RuthChouSimons Sponsors For This Episode -Grand Canyon University: https://www.gcu.edu/ -Operation Christmas Child SamaritansPurse.org/occ -A?Del Natural Cosmetics https://adelnaturalcosmetics.com/ -IFCJ ifcj.org-Mr. Pen: http://candacepens.com/ Learn more about your ad choices. The Way of Freedom with Ruth Chou Simons

Have you ever looked at a flower by the side of the road and thought, ?What can this possibly teach me about my anxiety, regrets, and pain?? In this holiday season episode, Candace and artist/author Ruth Chou Simons slow down long enough to actually answer that question. Ruth shares the wildflower stories behind her book The Way of the Wildflower and unpacks how sunflowers, Queen Anne?s lace, and tiny mountainside blossoms can become living parables of freedom, resilience, and God?s tender care. Candace opens up about the regrets that still ?pop into her mind,? the places where she struggles to forgive herself, and the tension of wanting closure and resolve right now?especially when things are out of her control. Together, she and Ruth walk through what it looks like to stop replaying the past, release shame, and trust Jesus with the things you can?t fix. Then they turn to a difficult listener question from Swags: ?My 12-year-old son has been fighting cancer since he was seven years old. He beat it once, but this time it's winning. Why does God allow this to happen instead of just getting rid of the cancer?? Ruth doesn?t rush to an easy answer. Instead, she gently walks through the reality of a broken world, the hope of the cross, and the way God?s kindness can show up in stories we would never choose?especially in a season that?s supposed to be ?merry and bright.? If you?re carrying anxiety, regret, or deep questions for God this Christmas, this episode will help you remember you are seen, loved, and not alone. Where It Goes Sideways- Why Does My Body Feel So Complicated? - Lisa Whittle

In this raw and deeply personal episode of Body & Soul, Candace and Lisa continue their vulnerable journey into how we see and treat our bodies. Lisa shares a moment from childhood that shaped her entire body story?a traumatic exposure to pornography that led to years of compartmentalization and perfectionism. Candace relates through her own early body awareness, acting pressures, and a lifelong internal battle with image and value. Together, they unpack why our relationships with our bodies go sideways?from treating our bodies like projects or performances, to seeing them as props for approval. They introduce the "trifecta" of body compartmentalization and explain why only a solid foundation can bring lasting freedom. They also respond to a moving listener question about emotional eating and point toward scripture as the root of transformation. Which of the three body perspectives do you relate to most: project, prop, or object? Have you ever treated your body like an opponent rather than an ally? Why Can?t I Feel Free? What Keeps Us From Finding Peace in Our Bodies? - Lisa Whittle

In the premiere of Season 11, Body & Soul, Candace and her guest co-host Lisa Whittle begin a vulnerable and powerful conversation about their lifelong struggles with body image, disordered eating, and mental exhaustion. But this season isn?t about staying stuck. Lisa introduces the concept of "whole body theology," a Biblical foundation that reframes how we view our bodies?not as projects to fix, but as vessels created for God?s glory. If you?ve ever felt exhausted by conflicting health advice, or caught in a cycle of striving and self-loathing, this episode offers gospel-centered hope for a new way forward. Because when body and soul are seen together, healing begins. What part of Candace or Lisa?s story resonated most with you? Have you ever felt exhausted by all the advice about health and wellness? Can Demons Hear Your Prayers? The Truth About a Real Question - Jonathan Pokluda

What if the devil knew your weaknesses better than you did? In this episode, JP explains how the enemy studies our habits, patterns, and even family history?like a coach analyzing game film?to find ways to destroy us. But the good news? God equips us with everything we need to stand strong. Candace, Lev, and JP open up about spiritual warfare in everyday life?from the arguments in a young marriage to the pressure of working in the public eye. They also dive into what it means to put on the armor of God, how spiritual warfare isn't always loud or cinematic, and why prayer is the key to staying grounded. The Pivotal Moment: A Fight that Changed Everything - Jonathan's Story Part 7

The Pivotal Moment: A Fight that Changed Everything In this excerpt, Jonathan shares the life-changing moment he was involved in a fight that left his friend in a coma. Jonathan says, "I was involved in a fight. He wasn't in the fight, but I fell down, and he fell with me, knocking his neck on the sidewalk. He ended up in a coma for two days." This incident was a turning point for Jonathan, leading him to a path of self-reflection and transformation. The support from his church community played a crucial role in Jonathan's personal growth. After the incident, Jonathan gave his life to Christ and found hope and purpose within the church. "I got baptized at 12 after that fight. The first thing the church did is they gave me the chance to preach to the children," he shared. This opportunity to preach was a testament to the church's belief in his potential and their commitment to nurturing his growth. "That's why the local church helped me to see hope, to have hope. Not only to be a positive view of the future but to have actually hope and hope is the ability to make things for, make that future to happen," Jonathan explained. Making a Difference Together: Join us next week to hear more about Jonathan's story and to learn how we can make a difference together.
