Jonathan's Victory - The Book of 1 Samuel

But Saul, wanting to seize the momentum, made the Israelites under his camp vow not to eat anything until the rest of the Philistines had been driven out. Jonathan knowing nothing of this vow disobeyed his father, who would have killed him if not for the people of Israel who interceded.

Episode 81: While Samuel was aging and retiring from his role as judge, Saul was gaining favor with the people with every battle won. Saul was swelling with pride and becoming addicted to the praise of his people, while Samuel led the people into habitually seeking God before every battle. One day, while preparing for battle against the Philistines at Gilgal, Saul gave in to his anxiety and people-pleasing attitude by taking on the duties of a priest, duties that at this time belonged solely to Samuel. Saul?s disobedience and petty excuses led to God removing the kingship from his dynasty and passing it onto one whose heart would seek after God.

The First King of Israel: Saul - The Book of 1 Samuel

In this Bible Story, Saul is anointed as the first king of Israel. He's a strong, handsome, and well-built man who stood a foot taller than every other man in Israel. God's Ark Returns to Israel - The Book of 1 Samuel

Episode 77: All of Israel mourned the loss of the Ark as it was dragged to the city of Ashdod. There, they placed it at the feet of their god, Dagon. The next morning their statue of Dagon had fallen, and was bowing before the Ark of God. The hand of God was heavy against The Philistines, and He afflicted them with plagues of tumors and rats. And so the Philistines, recognizing what Israel and Egypt did not, sent the Ark of God back to Israel with gifts to honor God and beg for His forgiveness. Teaching us rightly to fear God and not take His name or power lightly.

The Philistines Defeat Israel - The Book of 1 Samuel

Episode 76: The wisdom and closeness to God of Samuel brought comfort to the people. But on the outskirts, the Philistines were plotting an attack against Israel. After losing the first battle, the elders of Israel remembered the battles fought during the time of Joshua and brought the Ark of God onto the battlefield. God was not for this plan and Israel lost both the battle and the Ark. When the news came to Eli the priest that his sons were dead, and the Ark had been lost, he succumbed to his grief and died. But we can still take hope because our God is not a weak and worthless God, and He cannot be captured by men as the Philistines will soon learn.

Ruth and Boaz Unite - The Book of Ruth

Naomi meets Faithful Ruth - The Book of Ruth

Heartbroken, she decided to return to the land of Bethlehem and encouraged her daughters-in-law to stay behind and find new men to marry. But Ruth shows us what faithfulness looks like. She stays with Naomi and comforts her in her time of grieving, even going to live with her in Bethlehem and working in the field of Boaz.

Obliteration of Benjamin - The Book of Judges

Episode 72: Disgusted and terrified at what had happened in Benjamin, the rest of Israel had decided to assemble and seek the will of God for what they should do. As one nation, the 11 other tribes rose against the tribe of Benjamin. Peaceful negotiations were fruitless and war ensued. Battle after battle, Israel lost to the tribe of Benjamin until God gave them victory. But no celebration followed this victory, instead, there was mourning as Israel had brought one of its brothers to the brink of extinction. Our vengeance, if even for a right cause often brings more harm than good.

One day, a Levite, who was not content serving in the tabernacle, decided to look for work elsewhere and Micah, seeing him wandering, appointed him to be the priest of his house thinking that God would bless him for this. Episode 61: Once again Israel is looking to idols and darkness instead of the Lord. God, however, had a message for the commander of Israel?s army, Barak. He told him through the prophetess and judge, Deborah, to go out and claim victory. Though he was willing, Barak, like many of us, showed cowardice at the size of his enemy's army, and though God gave them the victory, He allowed a woman named Jael to claim the glory instead.

Episode 46: Jealousy has once again entered the camp. This time Korah and 250 chiefs of the people rise against Moses and his claim to leadership. When the next day came, so did God, and with Him a powerful display of His righteousness and judgment. The ground opened up and swallowed those inciting rebellion.

The Borders of Canaan - The Book of Numbers

In this Bible Story, Moses sends spies to the land of Canaan and 10 out of the 12 spies brings back negative reports. Episode 45: Israel is finally on the borders of the promised land, so Moses sends out 12 spies, one from each tribe, at God?s command, and has them enter the land secretly for 40 days and bring back a report of what they see. Upon returning, 10 of the twelve are frightened and bring back a bad report. Only 2 of the spies, Joshua and Caleb, come back with hope and zeal for God?s promise. But this is not enough for the camp to change their minds. Once again the people of Israel give in to fear and refuse to trust in God?s goodness.

Today's Bible verse is Exodus 3:2 from the King James Version.

Episode 33: Moses, now a grown man, walks out among the land one day and sees an Egyptian beating a Hebrew. This causes anger and indignation to rise within him, and so he takes action by killing the Egyptian. Thinking no one had seen him, he was shocked when he was accused of murder while breaking up a fight the next day. This caused Moses to flee from Egypt, and for the next 40 years, he lived as a shepherd in the land of Midian?until one day, God spoke to him through the blaze of a burning bush, changing his life forever.
