How Were You Praised As A Child? Unpacking Our Perspective and Leaning into a Soul Refresh

In today's episode of the Affirmations for Black Girls Podcast, join host Tyra The Creative as we embark on a journey of self-discovery and reflection. With March's theme of "A Soul Refresh," we're diving into emotional and mental spring cleaning by exploring our childhoods and embracing discomfort as a pathway to learning. Through thought-provoking questions, we'll gain a better understanding of our perspective and inner workings.

This week?s Affirmation is ?I am an open book, ready to explore the pages of my soul with an open heart and open mind.?

Questions:

How were you praised as a child? What am I putting off that feels important? Why am I avoiding it?When was the last time I truly enjoyed my own company? What was I doing? What?s something that was said to me in my childhood that I carry to this day? What would I say to my younger self now? What?s become more important to me recently than ever before? What have I always accepted as true that turned out to be false?

How were you praised as a child Instagram post

https://www.instagram.com/p/C2s312ZvKm_/

Key Takeaways:

Childhood Praise: Reflecting on how we were praised as children can provide insights into our self-worth and perspectives on success.

Embracing Discomfort: By leaning into discomfort and exploring uncomfortable topics, such as our childhood experiences, we can foster personal growth and self-awareness.

Self-Reflection as a Daily Practice: Self-reflection should be an ongoing journey, allowing us to understand our motivations, navigate life's challenges, and cultivate clarity and purpose.

Allow yourself to feel a mix of joy and sorrow during the holiday season.

Recognize that it's okay to navigate through the complexities of grief at your own pace.

Creatively Express Grief and Establish New Traditions:

Find healthy outlets for expressing grief, such as talking with supportive individuals or engaging in creative activities.

Establish new traditions that honor the past while allowing for growth and change.

Adapt or create rituals that celebrate the memories of your loved one or acknowledge changes in your life.

Cultivate Solo Traditions and Build Support Networks:

Grandma Willie Mae?s Buttermilk Pie ?

?? 3 eggs, room temp
? 1 1/4 cups granulated sugar
?? 2 Tbsp all-purpose flour
? 1/2 cup unsalted butter melted
?? 1 cup buttermilk, room temp
? 1 tsp vanilla
?? Pinch salt
? Pinch nutmeg
?? 1 9in pie crust
Bring all ingredients to room temp so the batter comes together properly. Poke a few holes in the pie crust to prevent air bubbles. Pour into prepared pie pan, that is on top of a sheet tray. Bake at 350F for 45-50 min. I like mine cold with no garnishes, but feel free to add whipped cream and berries.

Questions to Ask Yourself about your friend circle:

Who is your best friend? Why is this person your best friend? Has a friend ever done something to make you question them or their character? Did you confront them about it or turn a blind eye? Do you find yourself judging your friends secretly, if so why? Do you think they are judging you? And if so, why? Do you think this is a good trait to have or something that you need to work on? Have you ever lied to a friend, if so why? Was it for their benefit or detriment? Did you tell them eventually about it if you did? Or if you didn?t, why didn?t you tell them? Do you have more guy friends or girl friends?

?Pep Talk Wednesdays | Let's Get SERIOUS about our Personal Space... Sleepovers.. Overnight Guests.. Being Uncomfortable in YOUR OWN Home ?

I have recently had a lot of overnight guests staying in my home, and honestly, I am BURNT OUT! I just wanted to sit down and chat with you guys just in case you are feeling the same way.

I am learning to take my Personal Spaces seriously especially since I am getting older! One thing I realized is that adults.. like my mom and dad don't have sleepovers with their friends. If they do, they are going on a vacation or something! Not, staying at each other's home! And, that is mind-blowing to me.. I am getting out of that age where I FEEL its acceptable to have friends sleeping over simply because I like to be comfortable in my own home.. It's the one place I should ALWAYS be able to retreat to for solitude and comfort. ?

This episode's Affirmation is: "My space is my sanctuary and I will always treat it as such."

Navigating Grief with Grace: Honoring Legacy and Cherished Memories, Embracing Healing and Positivity, and Celebrating Our Lost Loved Ones Through The Power of 'Good Grief'

Today, Tyra talks about the powerful journey of navigating grief and embracing healing in this heartfelt episode.

AG1 is giving you a FREE 1-year supply of Vitamin D AND 5 free travel packs with your first purchase. drinkAG1.com/affirmations

This week?s affirmation is: ?My Life is Beautiful and worth being lived to its fullness.?

Biggest Takeaways:

Honoring Life's Fullness: Tyra emphasizes that grief isn't solely tied to the loss of a loved one. It's a complex emotion that can arise from various life experiences, including the passing of cherished dreams and societal challenges.  Affirmations as Tools of Resilience: In times of grief, Tyra introduces the affirmation "My Life is Beautiful and worth being lived to its fullness." She explores how affirmations act as tools for resilience, helping us reframe our perspectives and navigate the healing process. Through this lens, we can find beauty in the midst of pain, and by acknowledging the challenges, we pave the way for transformation. Embracing the Journey of Healing: Tyra emphasizes that grief is both a challenging and beautiful journey. It's a process that requires time, self-compassion, and a willingness to lean into the emotions that come with loss. By understanding that healing is not linear and that "good grief" is possible, we can emerge from grief with a deeper sense of self and a renewed appreciation for life's most meaningful moments.

?Pep Talk Wednesdays | Affirmations for Letting Go: Finding Light in ?Release.? Embracing Self-Worth and Self-Compassion. Unleashing Your Inner Strength on Your Healing Journey.

No one ever said letting go and surrendering to your path was easy, but it is well worth it. On the other side of releasing what no longer serves you is inner peace, joy, and healing. In this episode, Tyra shares 25 affirmations for learning to let go. What are you holding onto that?s no longer serving you? Have you learned to release and let go? Let these affirmations be your guide.

25 Affirmations for Letting Go

I am ready to accept that I have to move on.

I am ready to put my past behind me.

I release relationships that no longer serve my highest good.

I will take deep breaths and let go of all stress and worry.

I will free my spirit to find love and friendships.

I will not hold on to regrets or things I can no longer control.

I release the past and and embrace the present moment

As I forgive myself, it becomes easier to forgive others.

I have made peace with my past.

My mind is set free.

The things I went through do not define who I am.

I release all self-doubt.

I am free to be me.

I forgive myself for any regrets that I have been holding on to.

I am focused on the present.

My mind is clear of distractions.

I choose how I feel, and I feel amazing.

I let go of what no longer serves me

I trust God?s plan for my life.

I forgive myself and others for situations that have caused me pain.

I breathe freely without constraints.

I?m done beating myself up for what has happened in the past.

I have control over my thoughts and what I allow myself to focus on.

It feels good to let go of control and go with the flow.

I give myself permission to let go.

Focusing on Green Flags in your Romantic Relationship. What are Green Flags? Why Are They Important, If Not MORE IMPORTANT Than Red Flags? Elevating Relationship Positivity and Nurturing Lasting Love.

Tyra came across an Instagram post that was highlighting Relationship Green Flags! We always put a special emphasis on red flags, but what if we focused on the positives? Yes, there are tons of relationship red flags we should watch out for, but what if we focused on finding the beauty in what we did want versus what we didn?t? Now, in this episode, Tyra isn't saying to forget about red flags, because they are important too, but that is only half of the story!

After listening to the episode, write down some relationship green flags you want to pay special attention to. What are some green flags you want to focus on in addition to the ones we talk about in the episode?

Worship Playlist: ?Let?s Worship? & Vibe With Jesus Playlist

Today?s Challenge:

Create your own pocket prayer.

Prayers from the Episode:

Lord, help me to know when it's time to make moves, when it's time to stay planted, and when it is time to uproot.

Help me to recognize the doors you?ve opened for me, and to walk through them with Your confidence.

Dear God, please remove any and everything in my life that wasn't sent by you. Please give me the discernment to understand the difference between your blessings and things that were sent to be lessons. Heal my heart from any past hurts, trauma, and pain. Please open my heart to be able to accept all of the things that you are removing out of my life. I trust in you and I know that you will never leave me nor forsake me. In your name I pray. Amen

Lord, I pray for clarity and peace of mind oh God. Father God please fill me with your wisdom and spirit. Father God I pray that you keep my mind, that you fortify it, that you renew it along with my spirit.

Dear God, I am hurting. I know you are my provider and will bring me through. Lord please fill me with strength oh lord, and restore me, and establish me oh God, so that I feel rooted and strong.

REWIND: Finding Healthy Boundaries in Dating and Romantic Relationships, Exercising Effective Communication, Exploring Non-Negotiables & Deal Breakers and Learning How & When to Set Clearer Boundaries

Boundaries in dating are a person?s limits in a relationship. They allow each person to maintain their needs, space, individuality and health.  Boundaries can be hard to create but ESSENTIAL in relationship, whether platonic or romantic. Today, our host, Tyra, shares some insight on how she realized she needed healthier boundaries in her romantic life and gives us some tools we can start implementing today that will help us build those fortified boundaries.

This week?s Affirmation is ? How people treat me is their karma; how I react is mine?

The Biggest Takeaways from Today?s Episode on finding healthy boundaries in Dating:

DECIDE HOW YOU FEEL: Decide and figure out what you will tolerate and not tolerate in your life. Anything that makes you question it or feel uneasy is a sign that this might be something you are uncomfortable with, and is outside of your boundaries. Decide what behaviors you will accept and not accept. NON-NEGOTIABLES: Decide what the consequence is when someone breaks one of your rules. It is likely to happen, so decide what your response to the problem will be. And if you have non-negotiables, address what those are clearly so your partner understands if certain lines are crossed, you will leave. COMMUNICATE/LISTEN: Communicate your boundaries clearly. Even if you?re afraid they might not agree, at the end of the day, your comfortability is the most important. And listen when your partner tells you what does or doesn?t work for them. FOLLOW THROUGH: If someone crosses your boundary then do what you said you were going to do! And express how you feel. You can be compassionate, yet firm.
