In this episode, I am exploring how decision making has come up in my life and how my indecisiveness has hindered me. I also chat about why you should just make choices and choose to love the choices you make.

I know that being decisive can be a real gift to ourselves and those around us so I want to encourage you today to make decisions, trust your gut and move past overthinking.

What you?ll find in this episode:

A mindful creative moment about cooking dinner My lifelong struggle of decision making The realization that my indecisiveness was stressing me out Why you should just make a choice and choose to love it My advice on why you need to just go for it

014: Permission to Take a Break

One of the best gifts you can give yourself is permission to take a break. We?re often taught that consistency is the ?key? to everything. But sometimes you can see the biggest benefits and personal breakthroughs from simply giving yourself time to recharge and rest.

In this episode, I talk about a break that I took this summer and why taking a break can be so challenging for most people. I give some ideas of things you might need to take a break from in your life whether it be relationships, a project you're working on, social media or anything else that is leaving you feeling drained.

You?ll also learn the 5 benefits that I discovered from taking a break and why sometimes it?s essential to take a breather, be present with your family so you can come back better than when you left.

What you?ll find in this episode:

013: Consuming Carefully

Do you pay attention to how you?re consuming? What about the things that you?re consuming? If not, you?ll definitely want to hear this episode as I explore consuming carefully.

I hope this episode will serve as an invitation for you to step back, take a look at what is coming into your life and into your tank. We all only have so much in our tank for creating but if we spend too much of our precious energy on consumption, we won?t have enough time to create.

You?ll hear my experience of camping (or glamping) with my family and how this was an eye-opening experience for me. I talk about taking inventory on your consumption, examples of inputs that you consume and questions you should start asking yourself around your own consumption.

What you?ll find in this episode:

Why I like creating with kids using chalk art Why my family decided to get a travel trailer and a story about my experience with it The reasons you need to take inventory of all of the inputs in your life Examples of inputs that you consume Questions to ask yourself around your consumption My advice on being mindful of your ratio of creation vs. consumption

012: Inspiration Reach

Inspiration can be hard to come by some days. You might have to step out of your routine, out of the norm and out of what you normally create. Like one of my favorite author?s Julia Cameron suggests in her book, The Artist?s Way, sometimes you have to take yourself on an artist date.

There are a lot of places you can go to when pulling inspiration to create and in this episode that?s exactly what we?ll be talking about. I?ll be talking about why you might want to consider expanding your usual creative activity and trying something completely new. I also discuss some of the ebbs and flows we go through as creators.

I want to encourage you to try your own inspiration reach. Try something new, something different or maybe even something you used to enjoy but no longer do. Set your ambiance by playing music that fills you up, light a delicious smelling candle or even try changing the location that you?re creating from. The possibilities are endless!

What you?ll find in this episode:

A spotlight of a creator that?s been inspiring me The default places people search for inspiration The differences between ideas and the motivation to create How inspiration ebbs and flows  Why you should reach out of your niche for rejuvenation How you can expand the work you consume and create

Did you know that it?s up to you to make the time for your creative passions? It may seem overwhelming or like you just don?t have enough hours in the day but there are a few things you can do to help find more time for creating!

I know that a lot of people struggle with finding the time to create and I have even had days where I?ve used the ?no time? excuse too?. But once I realized that we have the ability to take more control over our day I saw how much more time we could have on our hands to do the things we love.

In this episode, I am diving into a few practical tips to help you make more time in your day for creating. I discuss a few episodes that might be helpful in this endeavor and how to reframe your thinking around the ?mandatory? tasks. 010: Comparison Stacking

Comparing yourself to others keeps you from creating. We all spend way too much time beating ourselves up and thinking about how we?re lacking or how we should be better. This stops us from spending time building, creating and doing the things that we actually enjoy.

But I want you to know that you are amazing, just as you are. We?re all guilty of comparing ourselves to the mom on Instagram with the clean house or the Pinterest perfect birthday party. But I want to encourage you today to center yourself and distance yourself from the trap of comparison stacking.

In this episode, I talk about how I realized I was comparison stacking and why we compare ourselves with other people. I discuss paying attention to the things you find you?re comparing yourself (and your worth) to and why you shouldn?t look for your worth in being ?good? at certain activities.

What you?ll find in this episode:

A creative memory from last summer How I realized I was comparison stacking  Why we compare ourselves with other people  How to center yourself so you don?t allow comparing to weigh heavily on you Why you need to pay attention to what you?re comparing with a lot Why you should avoid the belief that your worth relies on being good at something An exercise you can do when you find yourself comparison stacking

009: Creating with Kids

When you encourage your kids to get creative it?s important to let them take the lead. Introduce them to supplies, options and ideas but know that you don?t have to force it. I?ve noticed from creating with my own children that sometimes, it?s our own expectations around what a creative activity will look like that leads us to disappointment.

There are a few things you can do to make creating with kids less stressful and more fun! Take some time to let go of those expectations and instead focus on creating intentional thoughts about the activity you?re encouraging them to take part in. Knowing your ?why? around getting the kids together to create will help you to get through some of those annoyances that happen along the way.

In this episode, you?ll hear the tips that help me when creating with my own children. I chat about finding the right creative learning style for creating for each of your kids and the importance of the words you speak. Remember, it?s okay if it?s not perfect, it?s okay if it?s messy and it?s even okay if you or your kids get frustrated!

What you?ll find in this episode:

A mindful moment breathing exercise  My story about trying to create with my daughter Why you should take a moment and pay attention to expectations The reasons you need to make intentional thoughts around creating Tips that help me when creating with my kids How to find what?s right for each of your children: open-ended vs. step by step Why you should be mindful about the dialogue around your creations and your kid?s creations

008: Failure Freedom

I often hear people tell me they?re afraid to try lettering because they might fail. Our brains fear the thought of failure to the extent that it literally stops people in their tracks. So many people never start something because they?re afraid.

Can you imagine if you never started chasing after a dream because of that fear of failure? In this episode, I am talking about what it really means to fail and why you need to take a step back to examine the expectations you have for yourself.

I explore how the real problem is often the story that your brain is telling you. I talk about why you should take a few minutes to play the ?what if? game when you?re feeling fear and why giving yourself the permission and freedom to fail will bring you joy.

What you?ll find in this episode:

An invitation to create and indulge in 5 minutes of mindful creativity What it really means to fail and why you should examine your expectations  Why you should play the ?what if? game with yourself Why you should remain committed to create The joy of creating even when the thing you?re creating is imperfect

006: Guilt-Free Creativity

Why is it SO hard to invest time, energy and money into our own creative pursuits? As adults, we?re constantly encouraging children to learn, grow and increase their skills and creativity but when it comes to ourselves? We don?t make it a priority!

In this episode, I am talking about the ways in which you can begin to indulge in guilt-free creativity. You deserve to make it happen for yourself and your own wellbeing. All it takes is just a little bit of effort, changing the way you think about it and making the steps to make it happen because nobody is going to make it happen for you.

I explore how we can change the conversations around creativity and why you deserve to have guilt-free creative pursuits at ANY age!

What you?ll find in this episode:

A mindful moment story from her trip with her son down the river The pressure that society puts on adults to pursue productivity over creativity Why you deserve to learn, grow and progress at any age How we can change the conversation around creativity  Why it?s okay to set boundaries around giving yourself space for creativity Why you have to fill your own tank first A story from Lisa?s childhood about her mom practicing guilt-free creativity

004: Your Best Tool for Creating

Do you know what your best tool for creating is? It may not be quite what you think? actually, I think it may surprise you.

Your brain is one of the most powerful tools that you have for getting creative. Think about it. Have you ever struggled to start a creative project? You wanted to try something new but your brain was telling you, ?I am not good enough to do XYZ.? Well, that may be because our brains have been conditioned since the beginning of time to use these default settings: seek pleasure, avoid pain, preserve energy.

In this episode, you?ll hear my own experience of how my brain was hindering me from learning how to use a new brush pen. I discuss why you should learn more about your brain and why you should let go of the features of the brain that aren?t serving you anymore. You?ll also hear how you can experience life differently once you learn how your brain operates.

What you?ll find in this episode:

Her disappointment of using a pen she thought would turn her cursive into calligraphy Why she took a break from attempting to use that brush pen and what made her decide to give it another try How your brain is the most important tool for creating How your thoughts and feelings frame your outlook on everything that you go through  Why you should learn more about your brain and let go of features that aren?t serving you

002: How Lettering Changed My Life

I?ve struggled with my mental health for over 20 years. For the longest time, I had no outlet for dealing with and navigating through my struggles with mental health. After reaching a low point in my life, a friend encouraged me to use my creativity as an outlet and I never looked back.

I fell in love with the creative practice and using lettering as a way to get out of my own head. Words started to mean so much more to me and I was constantly taking notes on words that had meaning and value to me. Today I am sharing how I found out about life coaching and the shift I had with the negative voice in my head. I share how creativity can bring you mindfulness and why you should spend time doing what you love instead of only pouring into others.

What you?ll find in this episode:

Lisa's experiences with depression and anxiety in her youth and reaching her lowest point The story of how lettering was the surprise hobby that she didn't know she wanted How lettering positive phrases helped improve her mental health tremendously Why you should embrace the imperfections of creativity and invest in yourself!
