In this week's episode, we talk to Haley Jordan who suffered from Breast implant illness.

BII (Breast Illness Illness) is a term that some women and doctors use to refer to a wide range of symptoms that can develop after undergoing reconstruction or cosmetic augmentation with breast implants. It is also sometimes referred to as autoimmune/inflammatory syndrome induced by adjuvants (ASIA). BII can occur with any type of breast implant, including silicone gel-filled, saline-filled, smooth surface, textured surface, round, or teardrop-shaped.

BII impacts each individual in a unique way. Symptoms can include:

joint and muscle painchronic fatiguememory and concentration problemsbreathing problemssleep disturbancerashes and skin problemsdry mouth and dry eyesanxietydepressionheadacheshair lossgastrointestinal problems

The symptoms can appear any time after implant surgery ? some people develop symptoms immediately, while some develop them years later.

A lot of the symptoms of BII are associated with autoimmune and connective tissue disorders, such as lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, and scleroderma. Some people who have BII also get diagnosed with a specific autoimmune or connective tissue disorder, but many do not.

In many, but not all cases, surgery to remove the breast implants improves or completely resolves the BII symptoms.

Dr. Moreen Rubin became a clinical therapist because she recognized that she could easily see what makes a person sitting in front of her special and unique. Ever since she was a child, those in her presence would reflect back to her that they felt seen, heard and understood in a deep and meaningful way.  She has come to believe that compassion, empathy, and living life with purpose can free people from self- limiting thoughts, beliefs and doubts. Through good therapy, she healed herself and learned about the power of self- love and trust.

In our episode together we discuss how our brain is actually comparable to computer software,  and how it has hardwired ?programs? that kick in when we experience trauma or fear.

Dr. Mo goes over the 5 common fear responses: Flight, fight, freeze, fawn, or flop, and I was shocked to learn from her that there are more responses than flight, fight, or freeze. More so, I was shocked to realize that I had consistently experienced the ?fawning? method of a fear response for basically my whole life while being totally unconscious of it. Major A-HA moment for me.

In this week's episode, two of my most beloved, wise, friends, Tree and Collette,  speak on the importance of language when we express how we're feeling, and what shadow work actually means to them. In today's world, I've come to realize that "shadow work" is almost a trendy word, and the way it's displayed all across social media has made it seem like a one-time bridge you cross over, then never have to look back on.  NEWS FLASH: It's not like that.

Both Collette and Tree break down so beautifully how to start the process of shadow work and see it through.

BONUS! Make sure to stick around to the end to hear Tree Hill showcase a little snippet of her spoken word.

Another take on faith and finding yourself with Sadie from Simply Sadie Jane

Sadie Sabin is worth the hype, my friends! I've seen her name circling around in the mindfulness space for a few years now, but our conversation together this day was my first real encounter with her, and lemme tell ya...she is one powerful woman.

Something that was unexpected about our episode is that I originally asked Sadie to come on to talk about her self love courses, children's meditations,  and her hiking retreats--but Sadie ended up going deep into her relationship with her faith.

Because my episode last week was all about my faith expansion out of Mormonism, I feel it is only appropriate to air Sadie's story of expanding her faith while choosing to remain a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormonism).

The libra in me seriously loves this balance. What can I say?!

*And a special note to all of you who wrote into me over the last week, THANK YOU. The outpouring of messages has been both overwhelming and surprising. I wasn't anticipating all the support and kind messages. This space we're carving out together in my little corner of this Podcast World is something I am immensely proud of.  You guys, the listeners, are making this all happen and I want to remind you of that. Thank you again for being open and ready to hear the sometimes big ( and uncomfortable) conversations like this one and last weeks, too.  It's in these types of conversations that we all grow and true change is made.

My Faith Expansion Story *Trigger Warning*

*TRIGGER WARNING: This episode is outlining specific teachings, rules, happenings, and ideologies of the Mormon Faith that may be very uncomfortable for current LDS members to listen to because it is not promoting the LDS faith.
As a past member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints for 26 years, I know I would NOT enjoy listening to this story if I was a happy and content member, and it could have potentially shaken my faith if I didn't already know certain facts about the founder's history that aren't as openly discussed in Sunday School.
While none of the contents of this episode are pulled from anywhere but Church Approved websites stating historical facts, I recognize that not all members know the depths of certain happenings, so, I feel the need to warn all active members before they choose to listen to this that I talk about my opinions regarding specifics on the churches history with polygamy/polyandry, race, and bishop's interviews discussing sex/masturbation with unaccompanied minors and adults alike. *

Well, here is the episode I said I would never do. I guess never say never? Anyway, I feel called to tell this one big missing puzzle piece of my story here on the podcast for a few reasons. One is that I hope by finally doing this, this subject matter will kind of be put to rest.
And two, I know more people are leaving this faith than ever before. It is a painful transition out with so many stigmas and hurt feelings. I know that while I don't really want to do this, I am meant to do this. I think my story and where my family and I have landed after expanding outside of Mormonism over the last 6+ years may help others who are deeply hurting while transitioning out now.

My other hope lays at the very end of the episode, and I won't spill all the beans here in the description, but I hope that my Mormon friends/family will start sharing their spiritual experiences with me again as they used to when I was a member. I love hearing about them, and that didn't change about me when I left. My wish is that you believe and honor that I am happy, thriving, and spiritually connected although I am outside of the faith now,  just as I honor and believe that you are happy, thriving, and spiritually connected while remaining inside the faith.

WTF are Pleiadians?!? ...and so much more with Jordan Younger from the Balanced Blonde Podcast.

I loved this episode...and also, I just really love Jordan. I could talk to her for HOURS. So, if you don't already know, Jordan Younger is the beautiful mind behind The Balanced Blonde Soul on Fire Podcast.

In this episode we talk about how she became global news back in 2014 for openly taking a break from veganism, and the subsequent backlash she received. It was a whirlwind! She wrote a book called, Breaking Vegan, but as we discuss in the show, Jordan admits it feels like a different person who went through that experience.  (She is currently vegan again and THRIVING!)

So much has changed in the last 6 years for Jordan. She was diagnosed with lyme disease, and has been openly sharing what has been working for her and not working for her throughout her healing journey with chronic illness.

Something that has spiked my interest so incredibly much that Jordan shares with us in this episode is her information and experience with the Pleiadians. I had no idea what this was before she told me about them, but it is fascinating! We also discuss her newfound spiritual gifts that she's been discovering which include seeing people's face shape shift.

This is such an interesting discussion, that's for sure!

ALSO! We did a podcast swap and joint giveaway, so head on over to The Balanced Blonde, Soul on Fire podcast to hear Jordan interview me.

To enter the giveaway: Subscribe, rate, and review both of our podcasts on Apple podcasts. Take a screenshot then send it to [email protected] and we will pick a joint winner!

The winner will receive one of my Do No Harm/Take No Shit crewnecks, and Jordan's 22 day detox recipe EBook that is filled with 50 healthy, plant based meals that are all salt, oil, and sugar free!

Meadowlark is a mental health professional who works at MadHappy, which is a clothing company that focuses on mental health education.

In this week's episode, we talk about Meadowlark's upbringing which was punctuated by trauma and death, and then even more trauma and death. In college, she found herself in a psychology class and couldn't get enough, which lead her to become the mental health professional that she is today.

Speaking to her about this subject was so illuminating for me. For instance, before she went into detail about some of the traumas she dealt with around her father's death, she simply asked me if I was emotionally available to hear specifics, or if I would prefer to skip details. Just this act alone changed the way that I will talk about big issues like this with future guests or friends.

It was so simple, so kind, and allowed trust and ease for the conversation to continue on in. And this is why I wanted Meadowlark on the show...she is teaching me, and hopefully, us all, how to have these types of harder conversations in a way that doesn't feel as hard or uncomfortable.

Beyond this, Meadow gives us a detailed list of coping mechanisms that she uses herself when she is triggered or having a rough mental health day.

Madi Murphy is hilarious. She describes herself as someone who searched for her whole life to find her passion. Little did she know, she had been practicing her true talent every minute of every day: complaining.

She started a podcast just recently where every week she explores new sh*t to hate and finds ways to laugh, cry, or complain about it.

....and. it. is. amazing!

In this episode we talk about how we go way back,  how she got into the whole podcasting gig, and how she realized she could fail at the stuff she hated doing...so she thought she might as well do the stuff she loves.

Nate Winterton is a beautiful soul. In this week's episode he takes us into his not too long ago past where he was living a completely different life than he is today. He was born and raised Mormon (Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints), and served a Mormon mission. It was on his mission that he knew he needed to confront the skeletons in his closet, one of which was that he was a closeted gay man.

His story is heartbreakingly beautiful. Nate takes us into some of the darkest parts of his past in hopes to shine a light on some of the destructive and torturous practices that are still being practiced today: Conversion therapy.

Nate is a different man today than he was just a few short years ago. He is now fully out and a proud gay member of our society who is fighting to eradicate the dangerous and controversial Conversion Therapy practices that are still happening in some states across the USA, and is an advocate for Suicide Prevention and Awareness month.

Katy McLain is a tarot card reader. It's odd that I'm interviewing her because initially, Tarot was the one thing I steered far, far away from until Katy literally ended up in my family's living room one summer Sunday not too long ago.  After listening to only 2 sentences of what she had to say in that same living room, I was hooked.

Katy explains how Tarot is just another tool to help us connect with our highest self, loved ones, or our intuition.  She goes into how you can start right now to listen to your intuition more clearly.

We go in depth on our chance meeting, my first tarot card reading, and what Katy thinks waking up as a collective actually means for all of us.

This topic was requested by a few listeners, and, man. It was more difficult than I imagined it would be to wrap my mind around, and then try to convey to you all what key factors really did made an impact for me and my kids in the last 12 years.

I originally tried to go super broad with this topic, but realized I couldn?t. I had to go specific, and it had to get personal, because I think motherhood is the most intimate, and important relationship I will have throughly my entire lifetime... I?m sure of it. It?s also happens to be the most difficult, because there is simply no hiding yourself in motherhood. Your kids see you. ...so I didn?t know how to talk about motherhood without getting intimate.

In this episode I break down my top 10 ?have-to?s? if you?re ready to go from surviving to thriving in your motherhood.

Cara Loren is a mega blogger turned business owner, and today she lets us in on how this all started out for her.

We go back to her early days when she shot photos behind her and her husbands old apartment shed, and she lets us in on how she felt when things really started taking off for her.

We go in depth on the diagnosis of her son, Hanes, diagnosis of Type 1 diabetes that happened just 6 months ago, and how the family is adapting to their new normal.

One thing is apparent...Cara has always been impeccable with her timing and listens to her gut when she?s feeling the need to shift the focus of her blog and Instagram.

Even when people around her didn?t exactly see her vision, she forged on anyway. She shuts out the naysayers, keeps focused, and continues to share with the world whatever she is most truly into, in the actual moment that it's happening for her, and I think this approach has (obviously!) worked out wonderfully for her.

SAY YEAH! with Matthew Brady.

Matt Brady is a character that I'm likely never going to be able to shake. This podcast was our first encounter, and it has to be one of my most favorite "first time" meetings that I've ever had.

Matt has a zest for life. He just says yeah to it all...so much so, that he has SAY YEAH tattooed on his derrière. His way of life has sparked a small fire and as of today, 20 other people have followed suit and tattooed the same manifesto on their bums, too.

Beyond the tattoo on his buttocks, Matt is well traveled, quite brilliant (in my humble opinion), and one of the greatest story tellers I have had on the show yet.

Sitting with him was an absolute joy, and I hope you all pressure him into starting his own podcast, simply because, he needs one.

Until he is pressured into starting his very own podcast, you can find him on his brand new instagram account @saysyeah.

....And I think one of our biggest hopes out of this conversation is that one of you out there in "listener land" (....I'm channeling Matt Brady himself here....) gets this manifesto tattooed on your booty, takes a photo, sends it to Matt and myself, and our lives will be made.

Just say yeah, kids, say yeah.

This week is SOLO style and we're talking all things meditation.

Meditation is something I've done consistently for a decade now. The methods and routines I've used in that time have changed as much as the wind, but I have finally found my bread and butter of meditation. This episode is explaining my process and the story behind how it all started for me.

The meditation practice that I've landed on is what I go back to time after time, because it just works. It's simple. It's doable. It's straight to the point.

The music that I listen do during prayer and meditation that I referenced in this specific episode is called, Above and Beyond: Flow State.

Rebranding with the brand builder himself, Bronson Christensen.

This episode is sponsored by MudWtr! To get 15% off (and free shipping!) of this delicious coffee alternative, please go to mudwtr.com/woke and enter my discount code: WOKE.

Welcome to the new show name, Wake Up with Weslie.

After taking a deep dive into the history and reality of racial injustices this past week, I discovered that I was using the word "woke" irresponsibly. Woke is a title..more like an honor...to hopefully one day attain. It is a part of my mission now here on Wake Up with Weslie to keep this conversation going, and to continue to educate myself on the very real issues of racial injustice.

In the past week I've realized how helpless I feel in all this.

We can post a black square, hold back our personal content, donate money, protest, and vote...and even then it doesn't feel like enough. I feel, personally, that more needs to be done. As the shame waters got deeper, I realized the most important thing I can do right now is continue to educated myself, follow even more amazing black women in real life and on instagram who know what their talking about, and take accountability for anything I've done in ignorance in the past. When I know better, I vow to do better. I will teach my kids to do better.

A part of knowing better and doing better is re-branding this podcast.

Bronson Christensen, my husband, is the master at building brands--and for this, I am so grateful.

In this episode we talk about the importance of having a brand with soul, what differentiates brands, and future plans for Wake Up with Weslie.

Ep. 21 - Have you ever wondered what other therapies are out there that help treat depression? Flor Bollini, founder at Nana, teaches us about the amazing and progressive therapies using Ketamine.

This episode is sponsored by MudWtr! To get 15% off (and free shipping!) of this delicious coffee alternative, please go to mudwtr.com/woke and enter my discount code: WOKE.

Flor Bollini is psychedelic facilitator who trained within an African shamanic tradition.  Her mission in life is to inspire and empower individuals to be who they truly are. She designed a way to help people tap into  intrinsic power and to start making decisions from the heart. She believes that for each of us to make a true social impact, then we all need to address the heart.

To do this she created Nana. Nana is the world?s first comprehensive integrative therapy solution, and it's my belief that it is going to change the world of health care as we know it.

She explains so beautifully in this episode that up until now, the western medical world  has treated the mind with psychotherapy, and the body with surgery and pharmaceuticals, but no one truly addresses the heart?and I don?t mean the physical heat, but more like the brokenness of ones heart. So, at  Nana they treat the mind WITH the heart together to further healing and address mental health.

In this episode we specifically focus on what legal substances  we can use in the USA as of right now which are, ketamine and CBD. Ketamine assisted therapy is helping people breakout out of their severely depressive episodes that years of previous use of traditional antidepressants and normal therapy have just kept the status quo on. THIS IS HUGE!

Flor challenges you to open your mind when it comes to new therapies like ketamine assisted therapy and plant medicine. She states that you can?t know what you?ve never known. So, to truly know something and have an accurate opinion on it--first, you have to open your mind to a new possibility,  and then having personal  experience is crucial to form your own opinions.

You can find more at: https://www.nanaheals.com/
Find Flor on instagram: @florbollini
