Keith Morrison sits down with Dennis Murphy and Dateline producer Michelle Madigan to discuss their episode, “Simply Diabolical.” In May 2016, 29-year-old Michelle Hadley allegedly sent several threatening emails to her ex-boyfriend, Ian Diaz, and his new wife, Angela. But it wasn’t until Angela called 911 to report that she had been sexually assaulted and that Michelle was responsible for setting it up, that Michelle Hadley was arrested and sent to jail. The only problem was Michelle wasn’t behind the emails, or the alleged plot to have Angela sexually assaulted. She’d been set up by Ian and Angela. Dennis and producer Michelle Madigan tell Keith about the investigative work done by Hadley’s father to try to clear his daughter's name. Josh Mankiewicz sits down with Blayne Alexander to discuss her episode, “The Mushroom Mystery.” In April 2020, the body of beloved cyclist David Fouts was found in a ditch in Hamilton County, Indiana. The autopsy was inconclusive, but did reveal David had consumed toxic mushrooms, just not the lethal kind. Detectives pieced together a case against David’s widow, Katrina Fouts, accusing her of devising an elaborate plot to kill her husband with the help of her friend, retired police officer Terry Hopkins. The two were charged with murder and conspiracy to commit murder. While awaiting trial, Terry told investigators he’d strangled David. He died a few months later. In 2022, a jury acquitted Katrina of murder but found her guilty on the conspiracy charge. Blayne shares a podcast-exclusive clip from her interview with Terry’s ex-wife. Blayne Alexander sits down with Andrea Canning to discuss her latest episode, “Slow Burn.” In November 2018, 911 operators in Colts Neck, New Jersey, received reports of a house engulfed in flames. When first responders arrived, they discovered the bodies of Keith Caneiro, his wife, Jennifer, and their two children. Investigators soon determined the family had been killed before the house was set on fire. Just hours earlier, in a neighboring town, authorities responded to another house fire, this time at the home of Keith’s older brother, Paul. As detectives pieced together the evidence, they uncovered the truth –  Paul had murdered his brother’s family, and set fire to both homes in an attempt to conceal his crimes and misdirect authorities. Andrea and Blayne discuss how the murders affected the Colts Neck community, and examine the growing tension between the two brothers in the years leading up to the killings. Andrea Canning sits down with Josh Mankiewicz to discuss his episode, “Out of the Darkness.” In 2016, Chacey Poynter called 911 in hysterics to report that her husband, Bob, a fire captain, had been fatally shot by a stranger on a Texas country road. When police arrived at the scene, they found a frantic Chacey covered in her husband’s blood. Investigators quickly surmised that her emotion and her story were far from genuine. Andrea and Josh discuss the intensity of Chacey’s reaction, captured on police body cam, as well as the role of life insurance policies can play in murders. NBC News National Correspondent Morgan Chesky sits down with Lester Holt to discuss his episode “After The Flood.” On July 4, 2025, Camp Mystic, an all-girls Christian summer camp located in the Texas Hill Country along the banks of the Guadalupe River, was devastated by a catastrophic flash flood. Described as a one-in-a-thousand-year storm, water levels rose rapidly, trapping campers and counselors in their cabins, while others tried to seek higher ground. Of the 119 people who lost their lives in Kerr County, 27 were Camp Mystic campers and counselors. Morgan shares memories of growing up in the Texas Hill Country and what it was like to return home and cover the storm’s heartbreaking aftermath. Lester reflects on interviewing a young survivor and the grieving mothers who continue to seek answers about what happened and whether more could have been done.
