Hey friends!  This episode gets a little juicy as we open up our hearts--our souls--to you in attempt to express the things that convict us to our core.  It is important to understand where we are coming from when we speak of convictions.  We are Bible-believing followers of Jesus and we choose to trust Him instead of the world as our standard of truth.  That foundation is what we are building on and motivated by in our convictions.  The word "conviction" means more than just a feeling or an opinion.  It is a deep-seated passion that remains constant regardless of popular opinion or societal norms.  We pray this blesses you and encourages boldness in your faith.  Lord bless!

Hey AFM+MH Fam!  We had the honor of sitting down with Okumu and Kelsey, two key players in the fight against poverty through the ministry of Compassion International, and we were amazed to learn so much about the enduring work of Compassion through Okumu's story. Okumu grew up in eastern Uganda living in unthinkable poverty. Born in 1982, Okumu shares of a childhood spent traveling a painful distance each day in search of water?these same water sources often polluted and shared with livestock. Okumu tells of his earliest memories of going to school barefoot without a lunch, backpack or even a simple textbook in hand. But in 1991, a 9 year old Okumu would step into a Compassion Center for the first time having been sponsored now by a family halfway around the world. This would be the first time he?d sit in a desk, receive his first Bible, be given a special Christmas present and receive dozens of letters of encouragement from his sponsoring family. In just a few years, Okumu would give his life to Jesus. From a small act of simple compassion, Okumu has escaped the clutches of generational poverty, now grown and training pastors around the world for the work of ministry! Okumu?s story of growing up in extreme poverty may sound like an anomaly, but in fact nearly 1/2 of the world?s population (more than 3 billion people) live on less than $2.50 a day. As Covid-19 spreads into every country, those living in extreme poverty continue to be the most vulnerable. And so we?ve asked ourselves ?how should we respond to extreme poverty as followers of Jesus?? This week, we sat down with a dear friend of mine named Glenn Harris as he shared his testimony on coming to know Jesus after being raised in a secular Jewish family, and later dabbling in New Age and occult teachings until the Holy Spirit revealed the Truth of Jesus to him.  Glenn is now a Messianic Jew, or a Jew who believes Jesus is the Messiah, and serves as an Associate Rabbi at Congregation Shema Yisrael in Bloomfield, Michigan.  He lives out his testimony in fulfillment of Paul's words in Romans 1:16, "I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus, for it is the power unto salvation; for the Jew first, and then the Gentile." We all know vacations are essential to resting, recharging, and relaxing from the grind of work--but even vacationing can bring stress and anxiety with so many things to plan and places to go.  On this episode, we are talking about a trip we are taking as a family (dogs included!) around the beautiful state of Michigan.  Partially because we only get about 3 months of nice weather during the year, but mostly because we are taking a sabbatical (or spiritual retreat) to get away for a bit and hear from God on what his will is for us in the weeks and months ahead.  If you are contemplating some major life shifts--whether it be a job change, moving across the country, or stepping into a new role as a spouse or parent--we highly recommend retreating for at least a couple days to get away and clear your head for God to bring you truth from his word.  We will be sharing some of the insights we learn on next week's episode, so stay tuned! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/asformeandmyhousepodcast/support

In this episode, we focus on two tendencies we all have as people:  There are those who are "doers" (Martha) and those who are "be-ers" (Mary).  Think to yourself what you would do if Jesus told you he was coming over for dinner tonight.  What would be your first thought?  Would you scrub every inch of your house?  Put away the monster pile of laundry in your room?  Prepare the most scrumptious feast anyone has ever had?... Or would you simply leave all that on hold and just spend time with the Lord? Jesus makes it clear in Luke 10:38-42 which response brings him delight.  Mary chose to sit at the Lord's feet and spend quality time with him.  Martha was "distracted...anxious, and troubled about many things."  Serving absolutely has it's place in the life of the Christian, but if it's done with the wrong heart and motives, it is no good at all.  The simple act of being present in the moment and enjoying fellowship with people is what matters most.  Worry less about doing, and focus more on being. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/asformeandmyhousepodcast/support
