Dan Markel was a Florida State University law professor and father of two when he was shot in his own garage in Tallahassee, Florida, in July 2014. What initially looked like a mysterious murder would become one of the most shocking murder-for-hire cases in Florida history.
At the center of the investigation was the wealthy Adelson family: Dan's ex-wife Wendi Adelson, her brother Charlie Adelson, and their mother Donna Adelson. As investigators followed surveillance footage, phone records, financial transactions, and a trail of connections between Miami and Tallahassee, a disturbing question emerged: Who wanted Dan Markel dead badly enough to hire killers?

Jessica Gonzales did everything the system told her to do. She got a restraining order against her estranged husband. Colorado law said police had to enforce it — the word "shall" was written right into the statute.

The Lindsay Clancy Trial, Part 2: The Commonwealth's Own Experts Push Back
In Part 2 of our coverage of the Lindsay Clancy trial, we hear from Lindsay's family, the hospital chaplain who spent hundreds of hours with her after the deaths of her children, and Dr. Phillip Resnick—a nationally recognized forensic psychiatrist and expert on filicide who evaluated Lindsay and concluded she was not criminally responsible.
Then the Commonwealth calls three psychiatric experts of its own in rebuttal.
They ultimately agree with prosecutors on the question that matters most: Lindsay was criminally responsible. But getting there produces some of the most surprising testimony of the entire five-week trial—and at times, the Commonwealth's own experts seem to complicate the case prosecutors spent weeks building.
One exchange in particular forces a Commonwealth expert to confront the prosecution's own opening theory head-on. His answer is one of the biggest moments of the trial.
Finally, both sides make their closing arguments and give the jury two dramatically different explanations for the same evidence.
Lindsay Clancy killed her children. That has never been disputed.
After five weeks of testimony, the question the jury must finally answer is the one this entire trial has been building toward:

Lauren McCluskey: Can We Tell Which Relationships Will Turn Deadly? (Part 1)
When 21-year-old University of Utah student Lauren McCluskey ended a brief relationship, she had good reason to believe she'd caught the warning signs early.
The man she'd been dating had lied about his name, his age, and his criminal history. Lauren ended the relationship immediately.
But he didn't leave her alone.
What followed was a terrifying escalation of stalking, harassment, extortion, and repeated attempts to get help — ending less than three weeks later with Lauren's murder on the campus where she lived and went to school.
Lauren's case leaves behind an agonizing question: when we look back after someone has been killed, the warning signs can seem painfully obvious. But are they actually obvious before the violence happens?

Conor McGregor: What Happened When He Faced a Civil Jury- Part 2
After nearly six years, Nikita Hand finally walked into a Dublin courtroom and faced Conor McGregor.
In Part 2, we break down the 12-day civil trial: Hand's testimony, McGregor's claim that their encounter was consensual, the CCTV footage the defense said undermined her story, the medical and physical evidence presented to the jury, and the strategies used to challenge Hand's credibility.

Charles Guiteau: "I Merely Shot Him" | James Garfield Assassination- Pt. 2
"I did not kill the president. The doctors did. I merely shot him." That was Charles Guiteau's defense.
In 1881, a failed lawyer and preacher convinced himself he'd single-handedly won James Garfield the presidency — and that the president now owed him a job. When the reward never came, he decided Garfield had to die. In Part 2 of Founding Felons Week, Tyrella and Nikita get into who Guiteau really was and how he got there: the Oneida free-love commune that rejected him, his pattern of latching onto powerful men and then turning on them, the ten-week media circus of a trial, and the 1882 execution where he asked for an orchestra.

Assassination of James Garfield: The Bullet Didn't Kill Him | Pt. 1

The Netflix documentary Maternal Instinct tells the story of Taylor Parker, who faked a pregnancy for nearly a year — fake ultrasounds, a silicone belly, even a gender reveal — before committing one of the rarest and most disturbing crimes there is: fetal abduction. In 2020, in the tiny town of New Boston, Texas, that lie ended in the murder of her friend Reagan Simmons-Hancock. Tyrella and Nikita walk through how a con artist with a fabricated oil-and-gas fortune slowly escalated toward the unthinkable.

Courtney Clenney: "Is Love Going to Kill Me?" - Pt. 2
Five weeks before he died, Christian Obumseli sent his girlfriend a text that read: "Is love going to kill me?" He was dead 33 days later, and she was not arrested for four months.
This is Part 2 of the Christian Obumseli case. Christian was a 27-year-old Nigerian American from Dallas — a former college linebacker, an engineering grad, a guy his whole community called a light in the room. He fell hard for Courtney Clenney, an OnlyFans creator making close to two million dollars a year. What followed was two years of documented abuse, multiple police calls, a stabbing that killed him, and an investigation that nearly got closed as self-defense within 24 hours of his death.

Courtney Clenney: She Said She Threw the Knife | Pt. 1
He texted her "Is love going to kill me?" and was dead 33 days later. What the medical examiner found next changes everything.
Christian Obumseli was a 27-year-old Nigerian-American engineer and former college linebacker who met OnlyFans creator Courtney Clenney in Tulum in 2020. Over the next two years, their relationship became increasingly violent — documented in police body cam footage, elevator surveillance video, and Christian's own text messages describing being stabbed in the leg, cut on the face, and called racial slurs. On April 3, 2022, he died from a stab wound to the chest in their Miami penthouse.
In Part 1, Tyrella and Nikita walk through who Christian was before Courtney, every documented incident of violence, and the night he died — including the Miami-Dade medical examiner's findings that directly contradict Courtney's defense.

Two weeks before the crash, a witness heard Mackenzie Shirilla say "I will crash this car right now." On July 31, 2022, she did — at over 100 mph, into a brick building, killing her boyfriend Dominic Russo and his friend Davion Flanagan. Netflix released a documentary called The Crash. It covered the case. It did not cover everything.
