UAE rose to the occasion pacing Tadej Pogacar up the climbs after losing riders, including Rafal Majka. One more day in the Pyrenees for Pocacar to attack, but Vingegaard seems able to defend. Questions for Johan regarding Team Ineos and their bib numbers' meaning.

Fast riding and extreme heat have become factors in this Tour de France.  Jumbo-Visma, who has been a dominant team thus far, lost two key riders today. Now many consider Jumbo and UAE more equal going into the final week. We also saw an impressive and emotional win for Jasper Philipsen. There are still some question marks regarding Wout Van Aert's solo tactics.

Today we saw another breakaway full of talent. The heat leading up to the Pyrenees is taking its toll on the Peloton. There?s no doubt that Tadej Pogacar will not go down without a fight as he continues to hit Jonas Vingegaard when there is an opportunity.  Michael Mathews comes out with a stage win on the type of stage and finish unsuited for his style, making it much more impressive.

If you were listening last week, Johan had some questions about UAE?s tactics and efforts. Today, he has some questions about Jumbo-Visma and something that doesn?t seem aligned with protecting both yellow and green jerseys.

Once the sprinter's teams realized they couldn?t bring back such a strong breakaway, Mads Pedersen managed to split the breakaway and narrow it down to a 3-man sprint that he dominated. Jumbo-Visma gets an A+ for the efforts and teamwork in controlling the peloton. After yesterday's exciting stage, Johan shares some of his most exciting moments as a rider and director.

We saw brief contention for the seconds on the GC with Pogacar with a couple of attacks on Vingegaard, but it seemed the strength of Jumbo-Visma prevented that type of damage. Johan called this ?Perhaps the best stage of the Tour de France we have seen in a decade?.  Today we saw an aggressive and planned attack from Jumbo-Visma to isolate and wear down Tadej Pogacar. Tomorrow is L'Alpe d'Huez and we are not sure if Jonas Vingegaard will look for more time, or if there will be more of a truce as many are hoping to recover from today. Look for a French rider in the breakaway looking for a win on Bastille Day.

We can only speculate, but all the conversation regarding Tadej Pogacar burning too many matches may have come true today. Jumbo-Visma worked to perfection as a team to isolate and attack Pogacar throughout the day. Tomorrow will be the epic, L?Alpe d'Huez, which everyone in contention for the podium will be doing their best to recover for tomorrow.

Covid strikes the UAE team before starting today, adding to the challenges the team is already facing to defend the yellow jersey. Great day for Bob Jungels with a breakaway win. Johan goes into more detail about his history with Bob as a young rider and a condition common among cyclists that he had to overcome. The great question after today regarding UAE and Tadej Pogacar choosing stage wins and staying in yellow. Not only was this the longest stage of the tour, it also average a very fast 49k/hr. We?re still all a bit puzzled at Wout Van Aerts's long breakaway and its motives, but that breakaway did give us a good look at a rising star, Quinn Simmons. The best strategy for UAE may be to give up the jersey. Johan describes an ideal situation for that in this episode of JB2. 

Today was a long and lumpy stage with a brutal finish. Most of us were spending a portion of the race trying to figure out why Wout Van Aert chose to go off the front, which eventually led to time lost. We got a good look at the youngest rider in the tour, American, Quinn Simmons. On the final sprint, Tadej Pogacar put a stamp on this tour, suggesting that no one can go with him on the climbs, and also will find himself in yellow going into the first mountain stage tomorrow.

The brutal 11 sectors of cobbles took its toll on the peloton and damaged a couple of GC riders, as predicted. Johan goes into team tactics of both Jumbo-Visa and EF-Easypost. It?s no surprise to anyone that we talk about Tadej Pogacar and his form on a rough day. Also, something we have talked about in previous races is, do the motorbikes sometimes affect the outcome of the race?

Stage 5 with the 11 cobbled sections lived up to all the hype and has already affected the GC. The breakaway finish almost saw an American victory and potentially in yellow as well. Today was a great example of how it is a team sport and tactics can be key to victory. Returning champion, Tadej Pogacar looked impressive and Jumbo-Visma, with some bad luck today, managed to limit damages for Vingegaard and keep Van Aert in yellow.

Johan was in awe of the last 10k effort by Wout Van Aert, comparing it to legendary riders like Hinault and Merckx. Johan also tells the story of one of the greatest sprinters who didn?t know that he had just won the stage ahead of him. Lastly, Johan re-creates what it may have sounded like in the Postal team bus if he gave them a speech before a cobbled stage like we will see tomorrow.

Another spring stage for the Tour de France and Johan and Jb talk about the depth of talented sprinters and the teams fighting to deliver them to the line. Johan points out for the 2nd day an interesting strategy of Tajej Pogacar and UAE to not fight to stay safe in the front, Tadej even choosing to ride in the middle of the peloton, which creates risk over the course of a 3-week tour.

The wind and the crashes came as predicted, but didn?t manage to split any GC contenders. Incredible spring performance today by Fabio Jakobson, especially after the physical pushing between him and Peter Sagan. Today's stage was the 2nd stage of 3 in Denmark with us not knowing if the crosswinds would break up the peloton. The mostly headwind kept a downsized but decent bunch for the sprint finish. Fabio Jakobsen was as fast as the hype and able to hold his position with aggressive bumping from Peter Sagan. We discuss the 3k rule which is still a relatively recent change and some unwritten rules among teams when a rider is well respected.
