U.S. Olympian Cory McGee On The Mindset Shift From Making U.S. Teams To Contending On The World Stage + 'The Emma Coburn Effect', Explained

?I do enjoy watching other 1500m runners who have done other special things over the years and trying to learn from that ? not necessarily copy it but learn to emulate the patience. That?s sometimes challenging. It?s a lot of instinct. I had race instinct before but I didn?t have fitness. How I raced at USAs is not that abnormal in how I went about the race but now I have the fitness to finish it.?

The guest for this episode is U.S. Olympian and New Balance 1500m specialist Cory McGee. She and I go way back to when I first started covering the sport and I?m stunned it?s taken me this long to get her on. I was with her when she made the U.S. team for the 2013 World Championships but needed to hit the qualifying time. I watched it happen in Europe that summer and it?s been so cool to see her not just stick with the sport through some rough patches but figure out how to breakthrough and make teams again. She qualified for last year?s Tokyo Olympics and fulfilled a lifelong dream. This year, she backed it up by making the 1500m team for the World Championships. She?s got a personal best of 4:00 for the 1500 meters and 1:59 for 800 meters. You?ll hear how her mindset has changed to cement the fact that she belongs in the Team USA kit and is ready to contend against the world?s best. Plus, we also chat about this thought I?ve had after USAs on how Emma Coburn?s experience, mentorship and skill set helps the women around her on Team Boss.

Quanesha Burks On Her Journey From Working At McDonald's To The Olympics + Thinking About Medals At World Championships

"It's time. I've made teams ? a lot of teams. I've been making teams since my sophomore year of college...Now, it's time to get medals. Now, it's time to go into competitions and leave with hardware. That's where my mindset is now. I know I'm capable of doing it."

Quanesha Burks is the 2022 indoor and outdoor U.S. women?s long jump champion and a 2021 Olympian. At the U.S. Championships, she jumped a personal best of 7.06 meters (That?s 23 feet, 2 inches). Heading into the World Championships in a week, she is ranked No. 7 in the world and the top American in the event. She is one of the most positive people I?ve had the chance to meet within the past year. As you?ll hear in this episode, she?s always had to work hard to make a name for herself and care for those she loved. Last summer, I wrote a story for Sports Illustrated on her since she put out a tweet about how she started at Mcdonald's and now made it to The Olympics. Through it all, she?s continued to showcase her personality and humor with now more than 65,000 followers on Instagram and 46,000 followers on TikTok.

Track Snacks: Karsten Warholm (400m Hurdles Olympic Gold Medalist, World Record Holder) | 2 Weeks Until World Championships!

Happy Friday! This is the 11th edition of Track Snacks ? a mini-series taking you into the weekend where Chris Chavez and a CITIUS MAG staffer or friend share the story of an athlete who they're excited about right now that you can expect to see compete at the World Athletics Championships Oregon22 (July 15?24, 2022).

For this episode, we're joined by Katelyn Hutchison to discuss the dominance of Karsten Warholm. He is the two-time World 400m hurdles champion and Olympic champion from Norway. 2021 was the best season of his career as he twice broke the world record of 46.78 held by USA's Kevin Young since 1992. Warholm ran 46.70 to break it on July 1 and then ran one of the best races in history with a 45.94 in the final at the Tokyo Games. We discuss his road to greatness and how it all started with the multi-events at a young age in Norway.

Track Snacks is presented by Hayward Magic. Everyone knows how much all of us in the CITIUS MAG family love track & field, and how much we enjoy sharing that love with you all. Well, we?ve got a few big love-sharing ideas in the works and it all takes place in Eugene, Oregon this summer. Hayward Field will be the home to the Prefontaine Classic, the USATF Outdoor Championships and the World Athletics Championships. We'll be there and you should be too. World Champion, Olympic Silver Medalist Grant Holloway On The Work He's Put In To Become Great, Chasing World Records | Out of The Blocks with Jasmine Todd & Katelyn Hutchison

Grant Holloway is the reigning world champion, Olympic silver medalist and second-fastest man in history for the 110m hurdles. He is a professional hurdler for adidas running and we recorded this from the adidas hospitality suite in Eugene, Oregon last weekend at the USATF Outdoor Championships. He?s one of the most fun personalities in the sport and I?m sure you?ll have some laughs in this episode because it?s hosted by Jasmine Todd and Katelyn Hutchison.

They host the Out of The Blocks podcast within the CITIUS MAG Podcast network. They were two breakout stars this weekend in the mixed zone. They are both part of the Magic Boost Program aimed at improving the diversity within the people covering the sport and it was so amazing to see athletes open up to them and express themselves in different ways from some of the more traditional media. They bring out some of the best in athletes in ways others can?t.

You can watch the full episode on the CITIUS MAG YouTube channel but also catch the conversation in podcast form on Spotify and Apple Podcasts by searching 'Out of The Blocks with Jasmine Todd and Katelyn Hutchison'.

Yared Nuguse Announces He's Joining The On Athletics Club, Recaps His Notre Dame Experience + Getting Over Olympic Disappointment

"After coming off of cross country and finishing second the year before, we were all really amped about having a team that could really win if we got it right. Obviously, it didn?t turn out that way, especially for me. I had a terrible race at Nationals. It was still about going out there and going for that. Giving everything I had to my team is super important to me. That?s what I also like about On. They?re as team-oriented as a pro group can be. I really appreciated that and that will definitely help me in this next stage to have that team vibe but still be bought into something."

Yared Nuguse just wrapped up his career at the University of Notre Dame, where he was an All-American and two-time NCAA champion with the 1500m outdoors and indoor DMR in 2019. He also held the NCAA record in the 1500m with a 3:34.68, which stood until it was broken this spring. He qualified for the Tokyo Olympics in the 1500m after finishing third at the Olympic Trials. Unfortunately, he had to withdraw from the Games in Tokyo due to a quad injury that he sustained while in Japan. So what?s next? He?s here with the news that he has signed with On Running and joining the On Athletics Club to work under coach Dathan Ritzenhein. Hear more about the move, what went wrong this past year but why things have turned and are now going right heading into the U.S. Championships, where he will be contesting the 1500 meters.

Erriyon Knighton On Running Faster Than Usain Bolt As A Teenager, Writing His Own Legacy At 18 Years Old

"I didn?t do anything yet. I only made the Olympic team. I made the Olympic final. I only ran 19.4. I?m not saying that like it?s slow. I didn?t medal yet. I don?t have a world record yet. It?s not over. I don?t think this is the highest point."

Erriyon Knighton is just 18 years old but has already shattered some of Usain Bolt?s junior sprint records. He also turned pro as a high schooler and signed with Adidas. Back in April, he ran a wind-legal 19.49 at a meet in Baton Rouge, Louisiana to become the fourth-fastest man in history. Only Bolt, Yohan Blake and Michael Johnson are ahead of him on the all-time list. Knighton ran 19.84 for the previous U20 record in the semifinal of the Olympic Trials. He made the team and was the youngest U.S. male track Olympian since Jim Ryun in the 60s. He finished fourth at last year?s Olympics and you?ll hear just how much he wants a piece of hardware. My colleague Mac Fleet and I traveled to Tampa earlier this month to spend some time with Erriyon and his coach Jonathan Terry. We will be releasing a video on our YouTube channel with some of the highlights of our time with him so subscribe and set your alerts to the CITIUS MAG YouTube channel for that and all our content from the upcoming US Championships and World Championships.

Florida's NCAA Heptathlon Champion Anna Hall Explains How She Got So Good Across All Track And Field Events, Goals for Worlds

?I went into NCAAs thinking, ?I need to perform for my team.? In those times that you?re doubting yourself, that?s partly why our team is so special. I see how hard my teammates work and I think, ?OK. I owe them my best performance.? Even if I don?t think I can pull it out for myself, I can pull it out for them.?

You can make the case that Anna Hall is the best athlete on the University of Florida campus, which is wild considering all their sports teams. She won the heptathlon and finished second in the 400-meter hurdles at the NCAA Championships. It was one of the most impressive performances. That?s seven events and two rounds of the 400m hurdles all out. I?m tired just thinking about it. She is also the U.S. champion from the USATF Combined Events Championships in May and has qualified for Team USA for the upcoming World Championships. She?s been a multis star since high school. We go back to those days, why she gravitates towards challenging things, how she overcame disappointment from getting injured at last year?s Olympic Trials and how she views her potential across so many different events.

For this episode, we're joined by David Melly to discuss the brilliance of Faith Kipyegon. She is the two-time Olympic 1500m champion from Kenya. Last summer, she also ran 3:51.07 to lower her own national record and move in to the No. 4 slot on the all-time list. Robert Griffin III (RG3) Returns To Track and Field, Recapping His Experience Calling The NCAA Track & Field Championships For ESPN

"I never want the one-liners or personality to outweigh the analysis. That's kind of the focus I took in football. You want to tell the players' story and tell it the right way. I kind of just took that same thing over to track and told the athlete's story the right way. Talk about their accomplishments. Talk about what they're working on. The trick is ? and I'm not giving away any secrets because you know this because that's what you're supposed to do in the broadcast ? to get in and get out. Be able to tell the story quickly in 10-15 seconds...You can tell stories in football that can track the whole game. In track and field, you can't do that. As soon as the 100 is done, you have the hurdles. As soon as the hurdles are done, you've got the 400, then the 800. You have to work on your timing and how to tell those stories in the right way while also engaging the viewer."

Robert Griffin III (RG3) is a former 400m hurdler from Baylor, former Big 12 conference champion, the third-place finisher and All-American at the 2008 NCAA Championships, U.S. Olympic Trials semifinalist but most people know of him for his football accomplishments including being a Heisman Trophy winner and Pro Bowl NFL quarterback. Well, he returned to track and field this weekend as an analyst with ESPN?s broadcast of the NCAA Track and Field Championships and he crushed it. I had to get him on to talk about his experience getting behind the mic and hyping up what he believes to be the best athletes in the world.

Biya Simbassa ('21 USATF Running Circuit Champion) On A Mission To Continue Proving He Belongs Among The Best

"(In 2016), I thought it was cool to be in Eugene for the Olympic Trials. I was still young. I was not a fast athlete in the field. I just had a good experience after that race and from there, I was like, 'OK. I want to be better. I want to be the top athlete. I want to make Team USA.' I started playing with my mind like that and just reminding myself I can be one of those guys."

My guest for this episode is Biya Simbassa. We recorded this back in late March. Bear with us since we had a couple of microphone and audio issues that kept this episode pent away for the past couple of weeks. We did our best to repair it and still wanted to share his story with you all. Biya is a professional runner for the newly rebranded Under Armour Mission Run Dark Sky Distance team based in Flagstaff, Arizona and coached by Stephen Haas. Biya was last year?s USATF Running Circuit champion with solid performances week after week on the roads including personal bests in distances from 5K to the half marathon. He also finished seventh at the U.S. Olympic Trials in the 10,000 meters despite being one of the last men entered in the race. This year, he finished 11th at the U.S. Championships. We touched on how he wants to improve this year both on the track and the roads but also dive into his upbringing being the son of an Ethiopian refugee, going through JUCO before landing at Oklahoma and then navigating his career post-collegiately.

Track Snacks: Alison Dos Santos (400m Hurdles Olympic Bronze Medalist) | 6 Weeks Until World Championships!

"We want to prepare for the World Championships, run fast before the World Championships to get confidence and then try to win the World Championships."

Happy Friday! This is the eighth edition of Track Snacks ? a mini-series taking you into the weekend where Chris Chavez and a CITIUS MAG staffer or friend share the story of an athlete who they're excited about right now that you can expect to see compete at the World Athletics Championships Oregon22 (July 15?24, 2022).

For this episode, we're joined by Brazilian hurdle star Alison Dos Santos after he won the Prefontaine Classic men's 400m hurdle race in a world-leading time of 47.23. Last summer, he was part of one of the greatest races in track and field history ? the Olympic 400m hurdle final. Norway's Karsten Warholm made history by becoming the first person to break 46 seconds with his victory (45.95). Rai Benjamin went 46.17 for the second-fastest time in history and the silver medal. Dos Santos rounded out the podium with a 46.72 for the bronze medal.

We chatted more with him about how he got his start in track and field because he was competing on big stages as a teenager including winning a bronze medal at the 2018 World U20 Championships. He?s earned gold medals at the South American Championships and the PanAmerican Games. His first senior global championship came in 2019 when he finished 7th at the World Championships in Doha ? just a quarter of a second away from the bronze medal.

I watched Dos Santos during the practice session at Hayward Field. He?s six feet, seven inches tall and puts down tremendous force into the ground. While he?s fierce and focused on the track, if you catch him anywhere off-the-track, he?s always willing to stop and chat, crack some jokes, tell stories and even share a dance.

Hellah Sidibe (HELLAHGOOD) On Becoming The First Black Man To Run Across The Country + Five Years Of Not Missing A Day Without A Run

We recorded this on Global Running Day, which is perfect because Hellah Sidibe is someone who gets the most joy out of the sport. He just recently celebrated his five-year run streak so we take a trip back to 2017 when and why it all began for the former MLS player. We also discuss his amazing 3061-mile run from Los Angeles to New York, which he accomplished in 84 days and made history as the first Black man to run across America. My co-host for this episode is my good friend, Zac Clark. He is a big fan of Hellah?s charitable work and his attitude toward running so I invited him on to kick it on the pod.

Olympic Long Jumper Tara Davis And Paralympic Sprinter Hunter Woodhall Sign With Lululemon + How They Built Their Following And Audience Of Millions

"We have never liked the way that track did business. They?re only focused on business and not the athlete. I feel like we want to change that. It?s athlete first and business second. I want to change that and we are changing that." ? Tara Davis

"I think that we want to do that in two steps. One is being that person and those athletes making the change. It?s also trying to do things on our own to make that more accessible to athletes. I think it?s easier said than done a lot of times because those resources aren?t available to athletes. A lot of times there isn?t someone there teaching athletes what to do or how to market themselves and how to use these platforms to grow their brand to be able to connect with brands and support themselves." ? Hunter Woodhall

U.S. Olympic long jumper Tara Davis and Paralympic sprinter Hunter Woodhall are two of the most fun personalities in the sport. You may remember Davis celebrating making the U.S. Olympic team and rocking a cowboy hat and then celebrating by running into Woodhall?s arms. They?ve chronicled much of their relationship as well as their on and off-the-track story very well on social media. They?ve done such a great job of marketing themselves that they boast more than 420K subscribers on YouTube and have a combined TikTok following of more than 3 million followers. They sat down with me and my colleague Jasmine Todd to share the news that they?ve just signed a sponsorship deal with Lululemon as global brand ambassadors. In this episode, we touch on that deal, why they?ve gone about sponsorships and contracts differently in the track space and the importance of athletes harnessing their own story.

Juliette Whittaker After Becoming The Second High School Girl To Break Two Minutes for The 800m, 1:59.80 For The Win At Trials of Miles' Track Night NYC

"There's a fine line between knowing I was ready and confident to run a sub-two and then actually doing it. To see the 1:59 on the board really took so long to sink in because it was such an amazing feeling and something I had been wanting for so long. The fans and the atmosphere were an awesome feeling. I definitely would not have wanted to do this at any other meet."

Juliette Whittaker rejoins the show. She is a senior at Mount De Sales Academy in Maryland and is committed to Stanford for next year. If you haven't listened to her episode from March, it takes a deeper dive into her story and rise as one of the top 800m high school stars in the country. We caught up this week to chat about her 1:59.80 to win the women's 800 meters at Trials of Miles' Track Night NYC. Only Mary Cain?s record of 1:59.51 from 2013 is faster in high school history.

If you haven't seen the race yet, it's available on the CITIUS MAG YouTube channel along with a full replay of the meet. Juliette takes us through that day, why this goal has been a long time coming, the rest of her race schedule for the summer and what her top high school career moments have been.

Gary Martin On Breaking Four Minutes For The Mile As A High School Senior, Being A Face Of The Next Generation Of Stars

"Right after I ran it, there was so much commotion with people coming up to me and talking to me that for the first half-hour after the race, it didn?t settle in. I went on a cooldown by myself and it started to set in. Honestly, I started to tear up a little bit because it?s incredible to think of where I?ve come from. I knew I was in shape to run sub-four. I thought I could do it. It?s a big difference between actually going out there and doing it and just thinking you can do it. I realized the company that I?m in and it?s pretty surreal."

Archbishop Wood High School (PA) senior Gary Martin joins the podcast. Earlier this month, Gary made headlines by becoming the 14th US high school boy to break four minutes for the mile by running 3:57.98 at the Pennsylvania Catholic League Championship. He is the fifth-fastest high school miler of all-time indoors or outdoors but he is the fastest high schooler to ever do it against high school only competition. He solo?ed the race and beat Jim Ryun?s 3:58.6 miles record, which stood since 1965. In this episode, you?ll get to know Gary better, what motivates him and what?s got him most excited about his potential and his future at the University of Virginia. We also take a bunch of your listener questions submitted from Instagram.

For this episode, Joshua Potts (Host of The 2BlackRunners Podcast) joins me to chat about Olympic pole vault champion and world record holder Mondo Duplantis. The New York Times called him "The Tiger Woods of the pole vault" as a high schooler. We dive into Mondo's childhood and how he got so good at a young age, dominated the high school scene and has literally propelled himself as one of the sport's biggest stars for the next decade. Duplantis owns the indoor and outdoor world records with a 6.20m jump indoors and a 6.15m jump outdoors. He's got the records and the Olympic gold medal but he's still missing a World Championship gold. That seems to be on the way in Eugene this summer. Can anyone stop him?!

Olympian Rachel Smith (née Schneider) On Using Running To Heal + The Joy Of Watching, Supporting Friends As They Succeed

"Running has been super therapeutic for me these last couple of months. I've really taken time to heal and prioritize healing...When my own personal running isn't going well. I get so much joy out of watching my friends crushing it."

Rachel Smith (née Schneider) is one of the nicest people in track and field. Last summer, she fulfilled one of her biggest dreams when she crossed the finish line in third place in the U.S. Olympic Trials 5000m finals and qualified for the Tokyo Games. She just missed out on making it into the final when she ran 15:00 in the first round of the Olympics. We got the chance to catch up a few weeks ago when we were both in Washington, DC for the Team USA athlete summit ahead of their White House visit. It?s been a very hard year for Rachel. Earlier this year, she had a bout with COVID in January. In February, she shared that she learned she had skin cancer and underwent surgery to treat it. In April, she opened up on Instagram about having a miscarriage. It?s very sad to hear and we briefly touch on it. Through it all, Rachel still has turned to running and the sport as a way to heal. She?s at practice and helping her husband Mike coach the NAU team and the small professional squad that includes Elly Henes, Nikki Hiltz and Luis Grijalva. When she is ready to return to racing, she is certainly someone to root for.

For this episode, Ali Feller (Host of The Ali On The Run Show) joins me to chat about Olympic 800m champion and U.S. record holder Athing Mu. Last year, she put together one of the best seasons of any athlete by running personal bests of 49.57 for 400m, 1:55.04 for 800m and winning two NCAA titles and the Olympic gold medals in the 800m and 4x400m relay. U.S. Decathlon Champion Garrett Scantling Is Ready To Put America On The Podium At Worlds + Why He Retired In 2016, Tried The NFL And Eventually Came Back To Make The 2021 Olympics

"From the moment I step foot in this sport in 2011 in college, I had no idea what to expect. I always had heard of Trey Hardee, Dan O?Brien and Ashton Eaton so they were my role models. As someone who is so competitive at heart, I wanted to be like them and push my scores to get up next to them. The fact that I?ve passed a few and I?m getting so close to the others, I?m just honored. That?s the only word I can think of and I?m so blessed to have the path that they set for me to carry on this tradition.?

This past weekend, Garrett Scantling secured his place for the 2022 World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon by winning the USATF Combined Events Championships. His 8,867 points not only gave him the victory but moved him up to No. 3 on the U.S. all-time list and makes him the 7th best decathlete ever in the world. He finished fourth at last year?s Tokyo Olympics but the most interesting thing about his path to success is that he took a break away from the sport. After finishing fourth at the 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials, Scantling decided to retire and then signed with the Atlanta Falcons as a receiver for their 2017 spring camp. He also spent some time with the Jacksonville Jaguars. And when football didn?t work out, he took a desk job as a financial advisor. We go through all of that and what eventually drew him back into the sport, which he really loves and wants to grow. He?ll be joined by Georgia junior Kyle Garland, who broke the NCAA decathlon record this weekend, and two-time Olympian Zach Ziemek on Team USA for Worlds.

Track Snacks: An Appreciation of Bahamian Sprinting, Shaunae Miller-Uibo and Steven Gardiner (400m Olympic Champions) | 10 Weeks Until World Championships!

Happy Friday! This is the fifth edition of Track Snacks ? a mini-series taking you into the weekend where Chris Chavez and a fellow CITIUS MAG staffer share the story of an athlete who they're excited about right now that you can expect to see compete at the World Athletics Championships Oregon22 (July 15?24, 2022).

For this episode, Mac Fleet (CITIUS MAG's video specialist) joins me to chat about Bahamian sprinting and its current stars. Shaunae Miller-Uibo is the reigning Olympic champion in the 400m. Steven Gardiner is the reigning Olympic champion in the 400m and has not lost a race since earning silver at the 2017 World Championships. Both sprinters have been working on their one-lap craft for a decade and now they're the best in the world. In Tokyo, Miller-Uibo became the first woman since Marie-José Pérec in the 90s to win back-to-back Olympic 400m gold medals. Gardiner became the first man from the Bahamas to win Olympic gold in the 400m.

In total, the Bahamas has won 25 medals ? 8 gold, 9 silver and 8 bronze. That?s more than the 16 medals they have at the Olympics across all sports. At the Games, they?re always in the mix for a relay medal. They have six medals in the 4x100 and 4x400 combined. This country loves its sprints and we love a country that loves track and field.

Wadeline Jonathas' Story Immigrating From Haiti, Being Homeless And Chasing Success To Get On The Olympic Level

"I never saw any of this as a way out. I just went through life and just survived. Whatever happens, happens. I never dreamt big. I just wanted to go to college and get a job like the typical college student. But it was never this. This came into the picture when I was 18 years old. After running a 55 in the 400m and then watching the Olympics in 2016, I was like, 'Pshh...I'm only like four seconds away. I can do this.'"

Wadeline Jonathas' story is truly remarkable. She was bullied. She went to three different high schools. She was homeless. She found inspiration to get serious about track by watching the 2016 Olympics on TV which led to her to one of the most successful Division III careers at UMass Boston ? where she initially walked onto the team. After sophomore year, she transferred to the University of South Carolina, where she truly blossomed into the star that she is now. She won the 2019 NCAA title, qualified for the U.S. national team and then finished fourth at the World Championships in 49.60.

She opens up about the struggles of the pandemic and why she had her doubts about making the U.S. Olympic team in 2021. Last summer, she took third at the Trials to accomplish her dream and then reached the semifinals of the 400 in Tokyo. She earned a gold medal as a member of the U.S. 4x400m relay. She's still hungry for that individual medal and at 24 years old, she's got potential. Outside of the track, she also wants to make some big changes. I loved this conversation that we recorded at the Team USA summit ahead of their White House visit.

For this episode, Dana Giordano (Host of the 'More Than Running' Podcast) joins me to chat about Sifan Hassan. She is the reigning Olympic champion in the 5000m and the 10,000m and the Olympic bronze medalist in the 1500m. Hassan burst onto the scene in 2014 as she started putting The Netherlands on the podium at European championships. In the last eight years, she's gone on to break world records in the mile, road 5K and one-hour run. She's got some of the best range in the sport and demonstrated it best at the 2019 World Championships in Doha where she became the first person to win gold in the 1500m and 10,000m. At the Tokyo Olympics, she attempted an unprecedented triple. We're excited to see if she can do it all over again in 2022.

Ted Metellus On How The New York City Marathon Came Back From The Pandemic + Making History As The Event's First Black Race Director

?One of my colleagues said this in a meeting, and I?ve heard this before, but it really had an impact on me during 2020/2021. It?s the Maya Angelou poem where she says, and I?m paraphrasing to a degree here, ?You may not remember what I said. You may not remember what I did. But you?ll remember how I made you feel.? That right there is it. That?s what we can all do in our own little space: have people feel amazing, have a great experience, walk away with a smile on their face.?

Last year, Ted Metellus made history when he was named the race director of the New York City Marathon. Not only that, he became the first Black race director of any of the World Marathon Major races. In 2020, New York Road Runners faced criticism and allegations of discrimination and racism and vowed to make changes within its leadership roles and internal structure to make things better. The move with Metellus also came at a time when the running industry was coming back from a year full of cancellations and postponements for major races. New York Road Runners canceled all in-person races from March 2020 to September 2020. In this episode, you?ll learn more about how an event like that comes together but also learn a bit about Ted?s story from growing up as a kid in the Bronx to lessons he learned from the entertainment industry and other sports. He?s so down to earth.

We recorded this conversation in late February at the Running USA Conference. For this episode, I?m joined by Joshua and Aaron Potts of the 2 Black Runners Podcast.

Nell Rojas Finishes As Top American At The Boston Marathon Again With A 2:25:57 PR

Nell Rojas joins the CITIUS MAG Podcast for the first time after finishing as the top American at the Boston Marathon for the second time in a row. The Boulder-based running coach placed 10th over in a new personal best of 2:25:57 ? which took 75 seconds off her time from her sixth place finish last October in Boston.

In this episode, we go through her build-up to this race which wasn?t perfect and then the decision-making process into leaving her contract with Adidas that she signed in April to run in a pair of Nike VaporFly shoes.

We touch on the conversation around unsponsored runners since her decision to ditch the contract has been a topic of discussion on Twitter and message boards. Plus: Why representation matters for her as a Latina on the start line of these major races, where she sees herself in the U.S. marathoning scene + much more. Outside of running, she?s a strength and running coach based in Boulder Colorado.

For this episode, I?m joined by David Melly for a crossover episode with the Run Your Mouth Podcast.

Track Snacks: Marcell Jacobs (100m Olympic Champion) ? Bonus Interview With The World's Fastest Man Himself | 12 Weeks Until World Championships!

Happy Friday! This is the third edition of Track Snacks ? a mini series taking you into the weekend where Chris Chavez and a fellow CITIUS MAG staffer share the story of an athlete who they're excited about right now that you can expect to see compete at the World Athletics Championships Oregon22 (July 15?24, 2022).

In this episode, we're actually joined by the actual athlete. Marcell Jacobs is the reigning Olympic champion in the 100m, the reigning 60m world indoor champion and the European record holder in the men's 100 meters. Jacobs was one of the biggest surprises of the Tokyo Olympics when he ran the race of his life to become the first Olympic champion not named Usain Bolt since 2008. He proved it was no fluke by winning the World Indoor Championships in the 60m in a long-awaited clash against 2019 World Champion Christian Coleman. The fans are in for a real treat because they won't have to wait until July to see them go head-to-head again. This week. Prefontaine Classic race organizers announced Jacobs, Coleman, Olympic silver medalist Fred Kerley, Olympic bronze medalist Andre De Grasse, Noah Lyles, Marvin Bracy, Kenndy Bendarek and Ronnie Baker would be part of the deepest 100m race in history. It's the appetizer before the main course at Worlds.

Scott Fauble Puts Together Another Top American Finish In Boston, Clocks A 2:08 Personal Best To Move Into No. 10 On The U.S. All-Time List

"When I pass someone, I think: Poker face and pass them with authority. You don?t want to give someone hope. There are a lot of opportunities to feel sorry for yourself in a marathon. I don?t want someone that I?m going by to have a little something to fight for. I want to put them away immediately.?

Scott Fauble makes his return to the CITIUS MAG Podcast after taking seventh at the Boston Marathon in a personal best of 2:08:52, which moves him to No. 10 on the all-time U.S. list. He is the third-fastest active U.S. marathoner. This was a big performance for Scott since he shook things up a bit toward the end of 2020 by leaving his sponsor Hoka and parting ways with coach Ben Rosario and Northern Arizona Elite. He eventually teamed up with coach Joe Bosshard and spent the past few months in Colorado to prepare for Boston.

We catch up on the decision-making process behind that, his brilliant race tactics in Boston, how he?s shifted his thinking after a big performance and what?s got him excited about the future. We also go through a bunch of the listener questions that you submitted on Instagram.

NCAA Champion Wesley Kiptoo's Childhood Dream Comes True As He Turns Pro, Signs With HOKA NAZ Elite

"There was an academy called the Transcend Running Academy. That?s where I came through. It?s sponsored by (2012 Boston Marathon champion) Wesley Korir. I was working out with Wesley when I was in Kenya during high school. He taught me most of the things about running. I didn?t know I would make it in running but when he started talking to me about the benefits of going to school and continuing running, I started being serious in those two areas.?

Wesley Kiptoo is the 2021 NCAA Indoor 5000m champion and put together a third and second-place finish at the last two NCAA cross country championships. He was a standout star at Iowa State but now it?s time for a new chapter in his career. Wesley has decided to turn professional and sign with Hoka?s NAZ Elite. He will be training under coach Ben Rosario and he will be making his debut tonight in the 5000m at the Mt. SAC Relays. While in college, Wesley shows fierce competitiveness by pushing the pace from the front. He earned himself personal bests of 13:14.74 for the 5K and 27:37 for the 10K. In this episode, you?ll hear about his big goals as a pro but also a dive into his personal history with the sport. This signing is a dream come true as he hoped to be a pro runner while growing up in Kenya running and walking 40 kilometers to and from school most days. I hope you get to learn more about him and keep tabs on his future as a pro.

CJ Albertson Is Ready To 'Mess People Up' At The Boston Marathon | Inside His Untraditional Training And Rise On The U.S. Marathoning Scene

?I want to isolate everyone because I run by myself. If everyone gets isolated and they?re running by themselves, that?s a huge advantage for me. I don?t need a pack to run with. I do 100% of my hard training alone. I want to get people alone. I want to sucker people into going harder on the downhills...You have to have that mentality that I?m coming to mess people up. That?s what I think about in a race ? just having that raw competitiveness."

Brooks pro runner CJ Albertson has been a pretty highly-requested guest on this show because people can see some of the untraditional training runs that he throws down on Strava. But if you ask him, he doesn?t think it?s wild.

In this episode, we discuss his rise on the US marathoning scene where he popped off to a lot of people when he led last year?s Boston Marathon for 21 miles and finished 10th. He just ran 2:12 at the Modesto Marathon with three weeks to go until the big race. The catch is that was led off course by the lead bike for a bit. His 26.2 watch split was 2:10. So he?s fit and ready to throw down on marathon Monday.

Catching Up With Des Linden On Returning To The Boston Marathon, 50K World Record, Her Broadcasting Career + Lessons Running Can Take From Formula1

"Boston is such a crazy race. I feel like if you can get to the start line feeling healthy and you've run on the course before and I've done that and I know it races, crazy things happen there. If I'm on the starting line, I'm going to give myself a chance. Last fall was really tough because I wasn't fit and I didn't totally want to be on the start line but we said, 'Eh, we'll just go out and try.' I feel like I'm still building back up from just that. I don't love my odds but if I'm healthy on the line, I'm not like, 'I have no shot.' I'm always going to give myself a chance."

I believe this is 2018 Boston Marathon champion and 2x U.S. Olympian Des Linden's third time on the show and the first since 2020 when we may have enjoyed a bit too much whiskey on the air but it was the pandemic so who could blame us. In this episode, we catch up on everything she?s been up to including training for this year?s race, her foray into broadcasting with NBC, our shared love for Formula 1, where she sees her career right now and much more. It?s always a pleasure to kick back with one of U.S. marathoning?s all-time greats.

Track Snacks: Joshua Cheptegei (5000m Olympic champion and 5000m/10000m World Record Holder) ? 13 Weeks 'Til World Championships!

Happy Friday! In this episode, The Lap Count editor-in-chief Kyle Merber joins the show to geek out about the stardom of Uganda's Joshua Cheptegei. He is the reigning Olympic champion in the 5000m, the reigning 10,000m world champion and the world record holder in the men's 5000m and 10000m. Just two years ago, Cheptegei boosted his international profile by breaking Kenenisa Bekele's world records in the 5000m and 10000m in 2020. He has already stated his intention that he will be looking to lower his 5000m world record at the Prefontaine Classic. We dive into how his progression has also lifted up Ugandan distance running and why we think we may be seeing the greatest distance runner of all-time in his prime.

Nick Ponzio Is Shot Put's Best Entertainer/Personality And Wants More Eyes + Attention On The Throws Ahead of The World Championships

"It's almost criminal these days how little the shot put gets coverage-wise. You can say it's arguably the best it's ever been all-time...What I'm trying to do is to bring people to watch and think that guy is not only really good at what he's doing but looks really good doing it...I also think that shot putters ? when it comes to the people that I've met around the world ? are some of the best personalities. I think we have some of the funniest guys out there."

Nick Ponzio is a shot putter who represents Italy on the global championship stage. He just took seventh at the World Indoor Championships. He is an electric follow on Instagram ? @chubbydiamonds on there. He just recently threw a 21.83m personal best at the European Winter Throws Cup to open his outdoor season. He is originally from San Diego, grew up in Temecula, went to the University of Florida before transferring to USC. He also spent some time training post-collegiately in Arizona with Ryan Whiting but is now based in Nashville and coaching at Belmont. We go through his career trajectory up until this point,  talk about his decision to compete for Italy, examine the depth of U.S. shot put, what he hopes to see improved around the coverage of the throws and much more.

On The Rise: Roisin Willis (U.S. HS Girls Indoor 800m Record Holder)

"I think that's why we're running so well. We just all push each other to be the best. We realize that none of us will be the one star. We're all going to share this together. I think that's what makes it really special. They just push me to be a better athlete. I'm just glad that we're all willing to race each other all the time and push each other and break the limits of high school running."

In this episode, we speak with Roisin Willis. She is a senior at Stevens Point Area High School in Wisconsin. That?s the same high school that has produced track and field greats like Chris Solinsky and Suzy Favor Hamilton. Roisin is already one of the next big stars. Last year, she qualified for the U.S. Olympic Trials when she ran 2:00.78 at the Trials of Miles NYC meet and then ended up reaching the semifinals in Eugene. The fast times continued this indoor season as she ran 2:00.06 to break the high school girls indoor 800m record. The previous record was 2:01.78 set in 2017 by Sammy Watson. She capped her indoor season with a win in the 800 at New Balance Nationals. Next year she?s taking her talent to Stanford so there?s plenty of excitement about that.
