LAKEN RILEY MURDER SUSPECT GUILTY ON ALL COUNTS: NEW TRIAL BID

Laken Riley spent four years running cross-country track for her high school, River Ridge, in Woodstock, Georgia. Her passion for running continued during her studies at the University of Georgia. After earning her undergraduate degree, Riley began studying to become a nurse.

One morning, Riley set out on a run. She grabbed her phone and told her roommate she would return after a short run at the UGA campus intramural fields. When Riley did not return for hours, her roommate called campus police at 12:07 p.m. Less than 45 minutes later, officers found Riley's body behind Lake Herrick. Police arrested 26-year-old Jose Antonio Ibarra and charged him with malice murder, felony murder, aggravated battery, aggravated assault, false imprisonment, kidnapping, hindering a 911 call, and concealing the death of another. Ibarra was convicted on all counts and sentenced to life in prison.

Now, his attorneys have filed a motion for a new trial, questioning the evidence presented during the case

GIRL-SCHOOL-SHOOTER'S DARK ONLINE LINKS TO SITE 'WATCH PEOPLE DIE,' ACCOMPLICE IDed?

A second grade teacher at Abundant Life Christian School in Madison, Wisconsin calls 911 at 10:57 am to report an active shooter inside a study hall classroom at the private Christian school. Inside the study hall class, students from several different grades dive for cover as 15-year-old Natalie "Samantha" Rupnow,  is firing a 9mm handgun around the class.   She is a student at the school and commits suicide  before law enforcement breaches the building. No shots are exchanged.

Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes says identifying a motive is a top priority, but at this stage of the investigation it appears the motive was a combination of factors. A reported manifesto has been found, but  Barnes says they have not been able to verify its  authenticity.

Police say Rupnow has been in texting with a 20 year old Carlsbad,California man,  planning his own mass attack.  After police discovered the message Alexander Paffendorf was interviewed by the FBI where he admitted  “that he told Rupnow that he would arm himself with explosives and a gun and that he would target a government building."  No specific building was named.  A  California judge has  issued a restraining order  under California’s gun red flag law.   The order requires Paffendorf to turn in  his guns and ammunition to police within 48 hours. Neighbors say police entered his home carrying out a big  "black gun box."

BRIDE IN WEDDING DRESS MOWED DOWN DEAD: DRUNK DRIVER SNIVELS 'GUILTY' IN COURT

Samantha Miller and her fiancé, Aric Hutchinson, spent the night celebrating their wedding. When the newlyweds left the reception, a speeding car struck the golf cart they were riding in. Police say Jamie Komoroski was driving 65 mph in a 25 mph zone. Bride Samantha Miller was killed.

Jamie Lee Komoroski told officers at the scene that she was heading home when something hit her. However, her home was in the opposite direction. Komoroski admitted to drinking that night but refused to take a breathalyzer test.

Komoroski, 25, was charged with three counts of DUI with great bodily injury or death and reckless homicide. As Judge Deadra Jefferson prepared to begin jury selection for the trial, Jamie Lee Komoroski asked to change her plea from not guilty to guilty. She did not negotiate a plea deal, meaning the judge was not obligated to show leniency for sparing Miller’s family a trial.

Judge Deadra Jefferson sentenced Komoroski to 25 years for reckless homicide, 15 years for two counts of DUI with great bodily injury, and 10 years for felony DUI. The sentences run concurrently, meaning Komoroski will serve 25 years in prison. She is now requesting her sentence be reduced.

MISSING TEXAS MOM SUZANNE SIMPSON?S DNA ?FOUND ON HUBBY?S SAW?

The arrest affidavit for Brad Simpson, accused of murdering his wife, provides a detailed timeline of his activities the day before he reported her missing. The husband and father spent the day running suspicious errands, some of them in front of his 5-year-old daughter.

The day after neighbors overheard the Simpsons fighting, Brad Simpson’s truck filled and emptied as he drove around San Antonio. First, Simpson placed his phone in “lockdown mode,” preventing location tracking. Forced to rely on surveillance footage, police spotted Simpson’s truck at a grocery store at 12:33 a.m.

The truck bed was empty except for an ice chest. The next morning, when Simpson took his daughter to school, two full white trash bags had been added to the bed. Later, when Simpson was seen at a Boerne Whataburger drive-thru more than an hour later, police observed a heavy-duty trash can and a firewood rack weighing down an object covered by a blue tarp.

Law enforcement uncovered damning evidence that led a grand jury to indict Simpson not only for tampering with evidence but also for murder. Lab testing revealed Suzanne Simpson’s DNA on a reciprocating saw from Simpson’s toolbox.

In his first court appearance, Brad Simpson wore red prisoner attire with his hands cuffed in front of him. He swayed back and forth in his swivel chair, speaking only to confirm his identity and converse with his attorney.

Although the hearing was brief, Simpson was observed with what has been described as a sly grin.

BLOODY AMBUSH ON 2 KANSAS MOMS; AUTOPSIES SHOW TORTURE?

The full autopsy reports on Veronica Butler and Jillian Kelley have been released. Both reports identify the cause of death as multiple sharp force trauma. The reports list a total of 30 wounds on each victim, including 9 stab wounds and 21 cuts.

Many of Butler's wounds were consistent with defensive injuries.

A police affidavit states that Tifany Adams allegedly made statements implicating herself in the deaths of Butler and Kelley.

Investigators believe Butler and Kelley were lured to the location, arriving around 9:40 a.m. Officers found pools of blood, Butler’s glasses on the ground, and a broken hammer at the scene. Police believe the women were then forced into another vehicle.

The probable cause affidavit contains extensive details, but the women’s causes of death were not initially disclosed. Their bodies were discovered in a cattle pasture leased by Tad Bert Cullum, the boyfriend of Tifany Adams.

Cellphone data from three burner phones purchased by Adams helped narrow down the location. The phones first pinged near Butler's abandoned car, and the data later led police to the pasture. Officers found signs of digging. A hole, which had been refilled, contained the bodies of the two women.

Investigators cite a custody battle over Butler’s two children as the motive. The custody dispute had lasted more than five years. Butler’s ex-partner, Wrangler Rickman, who is Adams’ son, had custody of the children. However, Rickman was confirmed to be in a rehabilitation facility in Oklahoma City at the time.

Butler was allowed supervised visitation with her children every Saturday. According to her attorney, she was likely to gain unsupervised visitation in an upcoming hearing.

The affidavit states, “Adams vehemently opposed this and went to great lengths to plan and purchase items used in Butler and Kelley’s murders.” It continues, “Adams, Cullum, Cole, and Cora were willing to kidnap and murder two victims to limit visitation for Butler.”

Court documents also allege that Adams and her accomplices attempted to kill Butler in February. Adams, her boyfriend, and another couple reportedly drove to Butler’s home near Hugoton, Kansas, intending to kill her. A witness told investigators the plan was to throw an anvil through Butler’s windshield to make it appear as an accident, but Butler did not leave her home.

State investigators retrieved data from Adams’ phone showing searches for terms such as “taser pain level,” “gun shops,” “prepaid cellular phones,” and “how to get someone out of their house.”

According to the documents, Adams purchased five stun guns before the women disappeared. She also bought three prepaid burner phones from a nearby Walmart. All the burner phones stopped transmitting on the morning of the women’s disappearance.

After the attack, the bodies were reportedly stored in a sealed freezer before being buried 4 to 8 feet underground.

MARRIED WISCONSIN DAD FAKES DEATH, FLEES TO UZBEKI HOTTIE, BUSTED

Ryan Borgwardt is back in the USA after months of living in the country of Georgia. After searching Green Lake for almost two months, a change in the investigation strategy gets results right away, when it is discovered that Borgwart has his passport checked by Canadian authorities one day after he is reported missing.  Since local law enforcement found his Passport in his house when he disappeared, a simple investigation finds that Ryan Borgwardt claims his passport was lost and he is issued a new one three months before he vanishes.

Before returning, Borgwardt records a video saying he is safe and secure, wrapping up the video saying, "hope this works".  Borgwardt does not give exact details about where he is located.   The video is then sent to the sheriff's office.

Ryan Borgwardt tells authorities how he was able to fake his death and make his escape. First, he says he travels about 50 miles from his home in Watertown to Green lake. On the lake, he overturns his kayak, dumps his phone in the lake and paddles to shore using an inflatable boat for children.  Borgwardt tells investigators he chose Green lake because it is the deepest lake in Wisconsin, nearly 240 feet deep.

Now Borgwardt's wife has filed for a separation.

IVY LEAGUE ?ASSASSIN? SUSPECT?S BOMB PLAN, EVIL TO-DO LIST, BARES TEETH IN COURT

Arraigned in Pennsylvania for five crimes, Luigi Mangione is charged with Forgery, carrying a gun without a license, falsely identifying himself to law enforcement, tampering with records or identification, and possessing instruments of crime.

Luigi Mangione has a 262-word, handwritten manifesto on him when he was arrested, and in it he mentions a "spiral notebook". CNN is reporting that in the spiral notebook, Mangione was keeping a to-do-list leading up the the murder of CEO Brian Thompson, he is thinking about using a bomb to kill Thompson instead of shooting him in public. Mangione allegedly decides against bombing the building because 'it could kill innocents' and decides to shoot Thompson.

Decked out in a bright orange County department of corrections jumpsuit, Luigi Mangione comes unglued as he struggles with deputies as he gets out of the patrol car screaming  toward a group of media gathered to watch him arrive at the courthouse, "it's completely out of touch and an insult to the intelligence of the American people and their lived experience". Flanked by six deputies, the suspect is then pushed inside the courthouse.

Mangione is shacked at the waist and ankles for his court appearance. At one point, Mangione tries to interject while his attorney Thomas Dickey is arguing for bail, addressing the $8,000 US dollars and $2,000 in foreign currency found with Mangione at his arrest. Dickey turn to his client, instructing,  his client, "Don't say a word."

HEALTH-BOSS SHOOTING: IVY LEAGUE GRAD TURNED ALLEGED ?ASSASSIN? CHARGED WITH MURDER

Just hours after Luigi Mangione was taken into custody in Pennsylvania, he faced a murder charge.

The second-degree murder charge joined charges of forgery, carrying firearms without a license, tampering with records or identification, possessing instruments of crime, and providing false identification to law enforcement authorities. The initial charges were local to Pennsylvania.

However, the NYPD also charged Mangione with possession of a loaded firearm, possession of a forged instrument, and criminal possession of a weapon. Mangione will be extradited to New York, but that transfer likely will not happen for several days.

Mangione was arrested while sitting in the back of an Altoona McDonald's. He was wearing a mask, eating breakfast, and looking at his laptop when an employee suspected he was the subject of a manhunt out of New York.

Altoona police arrived, and Mangione began to shake when officers asked him to lower his mask and confirm if he had been in New York recently. A search of Mangione revealed a ghost gun, a silencer, and multiple fake IDs. Officers arrested the 26-year-old on several charges but not for the murder of Brian Thomas.

Mangione faces charges of forgery, carrying a firearm without a license, tampering with records or identification, possession of instruments of crime, and providing false identification to law enforcement. When asked if he needed a public defender, Mangione replied that he would "answer that at a future date.

Body Bags with Joseph Scott Morgan: Bodies in the Medical School Basement

In the summer of 1989, a construction crew working in the basement of a building at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta stumbled across thousands of human bones. The acquisition and disposal of the remains has been kept secret.

It happens again in 1994, a crew discovered an old well containing human remains while constructing a new medical sciences building on the campus of the Medical College of Virginia (MCV) at Virginia Commonwealth University. The well is called the Limb Pit.

It happened one more time at Harvard in 1999. During renovations at Harvard?s Holden Chapel in 1999, a worker operating a mini bulldozer stumbled across human remains when his machine broke through a wall into an old well.

Joseph Scott Morgan explains how it's possible to find human bones that have been hacked, cut with a saw, chisel, or knife, and then hidden so the law can't find them.....and it isn't a crime.

Convicted Killer Susan Smith's Dancing With The Stars Dreams Dashed?

Thirty years after Susan Smith drove her car into a lake with her two sons strapped in their car seats, she sought parole. A parole board denied her request, and a suitor later revealed that Smith had dreamed of appearing on ?Dancing with the Stars.? She is reportedly ?devastated? that her bid for parole failed.

After high school, Susan Leigh Vaughan married David Smith. They had two sons, but the marriage faltered despite the children. The couple separated multiple times. During one separation, Susan began dating Tom Findlay, the single son of a wealthy mill owner. Smith imagined a future with Findlay until she received a "Dear John" letter from him, stating he did not want an instant family.

On the night of October 25, Susan Smith knocked on the door of a house near John D. Long Lake. Hysterical, she told the man who answered to call the police. She claimed an armed Black man had carjacked her at a red light, with her two boys?3-year-old Michael and 14-month-old Alex?still in the car. For days, Susan repeated increasingly inconsistent versions of the carjacking story.

Eventually, Smith confessed. There had been no carjacker. Feeling desperate, alone, and suicidal, she had taken her sons for a drive. At John D. Long Lake, she put the car in neutral, jumped out, and watched as the car sank. Scuba divers later found the vehicle with the boys still strapped in their seats.

Since her conviction and incarceration, tabloid reports have alleged that Smith told prison investigators about four sexual encounters with Lieutenant Houston Cagle, a supervisor at South Carolina?s Women?s Correctional Institution. C

Cagle admitted to having sex with Smith and another inmate. In August 2000, he was charged with the offenses, pleaded guilty, and served three months in jail. Captain Alfred Rowe also pleaded guilty to having sex with Smith and received five years of probation.

Over the years, several men have written to Smith, fueling her hopes for a life beyond prison.

In March 2022, People Magazine published excerpts from letters Smith wrote to a long-distance boyfriend. In one letter, she wrote, "I can't wait to build a life with you, leave the past mistakes behind, and start fresh, just you and me."

"BLACK SWAN" BALLERINA LOSES SELF-DEFENSE BID: SENTENCED 20 YEARS

Ballerina and aspiring model Ashley Benefield stood trial for shooting her then-husband, Doug Benefield, to death. After her self-defense claim failed, a court sentenced her to 20 years in prison.

The couple married just 13 days after meeting. They had one child, but their relationship was tumultuous, with frequent arguments reported between Ashley and Doug.

Ashley Benefield alleged that Doug was abusive and volatile. As her pregnancy progressed, she moved in with her mother, denying Doug access to information about the baby, including the child's birth.

Ashley planned to move out. Doug arrived at Ashley's home with a U-Haul truck to help pack for a move to Maryland. He believed he would move with the family but intended to live in a separate home.

Ashley claimed that Doug became angry while loading the truck, "body-checked" her twice, struck her hip with the corner of a box, and caused her head to hit a wall. Fearing for her safety, she ran to her bedroom and retrieved a gun.

She alleged that Doug was standing in the doorway and lunged at her. Ashley fired the gun, hitting him twice?once in the leg and once in the chest. The chest wound caused lung damage and severe bleeding. Investigators determined that Doug was not directly facing Ashley at the time of the shooting.

CLAIM: HAWAIIAN BEAUTY ?MISSING AT LAX? GREEN CARD SCAM? MEXICAN CONDO HIDEOUT?

The FBI has been pulled into the Hannah Kobayashi missing persons case after it's been discovered that she may have engaged in an immigration marriage scam. Hannah Kobayashi is reportedly married, and her new husband was on the Los Angeles flight with her.  She?s now listed as voluntarily missing. Police say Kobayashi indicated her intention to "disconnect from the world."

McDonnell announce that investigators tracked Kobayashi to Mexico and have her on video walking into that country alone with her luggage on Nov. 12, four days after her arrival at LAX.

It?s coming up on the one month mark since Hawaiian beauty Hannah Kobayashi went missing.   The 30-year-old got on a flight along with her ex -boyfriend, headed on a bucket list trip to New York. She intended to visit an aunt in upstate New York and take photos at a DJ's show in Brooklyn.  The pre-planned trip was non-refundable so Kobayashi and the ex agreed to fly together to New York and go their separate ways upon arrival. The flight arrives at Los Angeles International Airport 9:53 p.m. The connecting flight to JFK in New York was scheduled for 11:00 p.m.   Kobayashi never made it to the connector, and the search was on.

Kobayashi was seen in the next few hours at multiple sights around Los Angeles, then all communication stopped. A worried family reports the woman missing, and a wide scale search by police was launched.

SHOCK VIDEO: HEALTH BOSS GUNNED DOWN IN TARGETED ATTACK, SHOOTER?S FACE CAPTURED

At 6:46 a.m., patrol officers from the Midtown North Precinct responded to a 911 call about a person shot in front of the Hilton Hotel on Avenue of the Americas. At 6:48 a.m., officers arrived and found the victim, Brian Thompson, 50, CEO of United Healthcare, with gunshot wounds to his back and leg.

A manhunt is underway for the shooter, who police say waited for Thompson to exit his hotel. According to investigators, the suspect arrived at the location on foot about five minutes before Thompson's arrival. Thompson was walking alone toward the Hilton after exiting his hotel across the street.

The shooter, described as a light-skinned male, was wearing a light brown or cream-colored jacket, a black face mask, black-and-white sneakers, and a distinctive gray backpack. The suspect stepped onto the sidewalk from behind a car, ignored other pedestrians, approached Thompson from behind, and shot him in the back. The suspect then walked closer to the victim and continued shooting. Police believe the gun malfunctioned as the shooter cleared a jam and resumed firing.

The suspect fled on foot northbound into an alleyway before getting onto an electric E-City bike and riding toward Central Park. Police have released several photos of the suspect, including a full-face image.

At the scene, officers recovered three live 9mm rounds and three discharged 9mm shell casings with the words ?Deny,? ?Depose,? and ?Defend? inscribed on them.

HAWAIIAN BEAUTY MISSING @ LAX, DUMPS ?MODERN? LIFE, IMPLODES FAMILY, IN TIJUANA?

In a surprising development, Hannah Kobayashi's family learned she crossed into Mexico on November 12 at 12:13 p.m., after no communication since November 11 and no sign of her since that date. Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) investigators reviewed surveillance footage at the U.S.-Mexico border, which clearly shows the 30-year-old crossing on foot into Mexico.

The footage reveals Kobayashi crossing alone, carrying luggage, with no indication she was accompanied. Investigators determined she had checked her bag through to New York but later requested it be sent to her at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). Surveillance video from November 11 shows Kobayashi retrieving her luggage from the baggage carousel.

Using video and still images, LAPD created a timeline of Kobayashi's movements in Los Angeles from November 8 to November 11. After collecting her luggage on November 11, she traveled through the Los Angeles Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) to Union Station, where she used her passport and cash to purchase a bus ticket to the border. The following morning, she took a bus to San Ysidro, California, and crossed the border into Mexico via a pedestrian tunnel.

The LAPD stated they would not release the surveillance footage of Kobayashi crossing the border due to privacy concerns. A department spokesperson explained that as a private citizen who has not committed a crime, Kobayashi is entitled to privacy. LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell reiterated this, saying she "has a right to her privacy."

Although Kobayashi's family has urged police to continue searching for her, the LAPD confirmed they are not investigating further. They stated Kobayashi has left the country voluntarily, is not suspected of a crime, and there is no evidence she is being trafficked.

TEEN CHEERLEADER FRENZY STABBED BY BOY, 15, DAD TRIES TRACKING APP TO FIND BODY

Savannah Copeland cheered at Powell Middle School?s first basketball game of the year. Her father, Michael Copeland, got up early before the rest of the family and was pulling into work when he received a call from his wife, Amanda. She told him that Savannah was not in her bed when they woke up, and she couldn?t find her. Savannah was missing.

Michael rushed back home to search for their daughter. Using the Life360 app, which tracks phone movements, they were able to see the path Savannah had taken and the time of her movements. The app indicated that she went missing between midnight and 2:30 a.m., but it did not show her exact location. Starting in the general area, the family went door-to-door asking if anyone had a doorbell camera that might have recorded the direction Savannah was heading, but they had no luck.

They contacted the Knox County Sheriff?s Office, and deputies began searching for Savannah Copeland. Nearly 12 hours after the deputies were called in, Michael Copeland heard sirens and immediately feared they were for Savannah. A teenager walking along a popular trail behind a public swimming pool in the Broadacres neighborhood of Powell found Savannah?s lifeless body.

Deputies arrived at the scene and secured the area. Detectives from Major Crimes and Juvenile Crimes, along with the Knox County Medical Examiner, began collecting evidence and processing the scene. Savannah Copeland had been stabbed multiple times with what appeared to be a small knife and was left to bleed to death alone on the dirt trail.

EERIE TWIST: HAWAII BEAUTY DISAPPEARS BETWEEN FLIGHTS AT LAX, WHERE?S HANNAH?

NOTE:  After our broadcast, Los Angeles Police announced Hannah Kobayashi had been seen on security footage crossing the U.S. border into Mexico. She was alone, on foot, with luggage in hand.  The case is now classified as a voluntary missing person case.

30-year-old Hannah Kobayashi is on a bucket list trip from her home in Hawaii to New York, where she is going to visit an aunt in upstate New York,  and take photos at a DJ's show in Brooklyn. Kobayashi plans the trip with her boyfriend but they breakup before the planned trip. Unable to get a refund they agree to fly together to New York and go their separate ways upon arrival. Hannah and her ex arrive at Los Angeles International Airport on Friday at 9:53 p.m. and have a connecting flight to JFK in New York scheduled for 11:00 p.m.

Pictures show Hannah Kobayashi arriving in a black hoodie with colorful sweatpants, while wearing a pair of headphones as she walks through LAX. Her ex-boyfriend makes it to the connecting flight to JFK in New York, but Hannah does not. There isn't a lot of time between landing from Hawaii and catching the connecting flight to JFK, just over 60 minutes, and some believe she simply missed the connecting flight and will take the next available flight on Saturday. Her suitcase is on the plane to JFK.

After missing her connecting flight to New York, Hannah Kobayashi remains at LAX Friday night into Saturday.  On Saturday between 12 noon and 3 p.m. she is seen at "The Grove". According to Discover LA, The Grove is a World-Renowned Shopping, Dining, and entertainment destination. Located about 10 miles from LAX, Hannah Kobayashi sends a photo to her aunt at 2:43pm from Taschen Books where she is charging her phone.  On the evening of Saturday, November 9, Hannah Kobayashi makes two payments via Venmo on November 9. One payment is made at 6:25pm to a woman named Veronica Alamendarez. The payment includes a description of a bow and arrow emoji. Less than one hour later at 7:19 pm, Kobayashi makes a Venmo payment to Jonathan Taylor. In the subject line of the second Venmo payment is the word "reading".

Sunday November 10th, Hannah Kobayashi is back at The Grove in downtown Los Angeles and is seen on a video posted to YouTube at the LeBron James Trial Experience at the Nike Store. A photo of the event is posted on Kobayashi's Instagram account. Hannah had been texting with family members telling them she couldn't wait to get to New York, and it was a nightmare trying to get another flight.

Hannah Kobayashi is keeping in regular contact with family and while she is frustrated about getting to New York there doesn't seem to be anything to worry about, until Monday, November 11 when a series of text messages to family and friends causes alarm.  Kobayashi's mother sends her a text asking if she has made it to New York and Hannah responds "no". Then friends and family start getting messages from Kobayashi's phone saying someone has stolen her identity and all of her money.  Concerned, family members try calling and texting but don't hear back from Hannah.

Joseph Scott Morgan will turn the pages of his own storybook to find out how a simple "wellness check" turns so evil, so fast. LIFE IN PRISON FOR SUSPECT IN BRUTAL MURDER OF MEMPHIS MOM ELIZA FLETCHER

The  man charged in the brutal kidnapping, rape and murder of Tennessee teacher Eliza Fletcher changes his plea after prosecutors seek the death penalty. Cleotha Abston, 40, was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole.

Abston was sentenced to 80 years in a separate rape case.  A sexual assault kit was submitted to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation two days after the alleged rape, but no request was made for expedited analysis. The kit sat for months in line with other cases waiting for testing. The kit was finally processed and once the initial report was completed, the information was then entered into the FBI DNA database on 29 August. A positive match came back three days after Fletcher was kidnapped.
