The Trail Went Cold – Episode 193 – Noreen Greenley

September 14, 1963. Bowmanville, Ontario. 13-year old Noreen Greenley leaves her best friend?s house and heads towards the bus stop, but never returns home. May 12, 2000. The South Pole, Antarctica. While working at the Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station, 32-year old Australian astrophysicist Rodney Marks becomes seriously ill before he dies. Rodney?s death is initially assumed to be natural causes, but when his body is transported to New Zealand months later, an autopsy reveals that he died from acute methanol poisoning. February 8, 2005. Totowa, New Jersey. 43-year old chemist Geetha Angara shows up to work her shift at the Passaic Valley Water Commission treatment facility, but turns up missing. The following day, Geetha?s body is discovered inside one of the facility?s water tanks and her cause of death is determined to be drowning. Since there is a hole in the ceiling, police conclude that Rey jumped off the main roof of the fourteen-story building and his death was a suicide. However, Rey?s loved ones discover some odd discrepancies which make them think it would have been impossible for Rey?s body to land at that location and they suspect he was murdered. They also believe that Rey?s workplace may have been involved his death and the discovery of a cryptic typewritten note behind Rey?s home computer brings up even more unanswered questions. August 3, 1980. AuSable Township, Michigan. 20-year old Cherita Thomas borrows her friend?s car in order to pick up her daughter from a babysitter, but the vehicle breaks down before she arrives. Witnesses see Cherita climbing into a blue pick-up truck driven by a white male, but she is never heard from again. Jimmie Allen Nelson, the babysitter?s brother-in-law, is suspected of harming Cherita in a racially motivated hate crime, and even though Cherita?s body is not found, Nelson is charged and convicted of her murder three decades later. However, Nelson?s conviction is overturned when newly discovered evidence surfaces which reportedly implicates another suspect, so the murder charge against him is dismissed in 2014. July 12, 1964. Vidalia, Louisiana. 25-year old Joseph ?Joe-Ed? Edwards is seen leaving his place of employment, the Shamrock Motel. Shortly thereafter, an eyewitness sees Joe-Ed?s vehicle pulled over by the side of the highway and three white males and what appears to be an unmarked police car are also at the scene. Joe-Ed is never heard from again and his abandoned vehicle is discovered one week later. As the years go by, rumours circulate that Joe-Ed was the victim of a hate crime and may have been murdered for attempting to kiss a white woman. It isn?t long before Don appears to go into a trance and water starts materializing from the house?s walls, ceiling and floor. The Trail Went Cold – Episode 162 – The Oklahoma Girl Scout Murders

June 13, 1977. Mayes County, Oklahoma. While attending a summer camp for Girl Scouts, 10-year Denise Milner, 9-year Michelle Guse, and 8-year old Lori Farmer spend the night together in a tent. When morning hits, the murdered bodies of the three girls are discovered 150 yards away in the woods. Michelle and Lori have been bludgeoned to death while Denise?s cause of death is strangulation. Evidence seems to point to Gene Leroy Hart, a wanted fugitive who has been on the run for nearly four years, and after a lengthy manhunt, he is captured and charged with the murders. Hart eventually goes on trial for the crime, but is acquitted by the jury and dies of a heart attack two months later. Over the next four decades, attempts are made to use forensic testing to link Hart to the murders, but the results are always inconclusive. Did Gene Leroy Hart actually commit this crime or did the real killer get away with it? For our special four-year anniversary show of ?The Trail Went Cold?, we will be chronicling the Oklahoma Girl Scout Murders, a very infamous and controversial case which was voted on by our listeners. When the family fails to return, they are reported missing the following evening. Just under five months later, the bodies of Susan and Virginia are discovered in the Columbia River and while the rest of the family cannot be found, evidence suggests that their vehicle went off a cliff into the water. While some people believe the whole thing was tragic accident, there are other pieces of evidence that point to foul play, including the discovery of a blood-stained gun which is traced back to the Martins? surviving son. Were the Martins the victim of an elaborate murder plot? If so, who was responsible and what could their motive have been? After not hearing from him for weeks, Charles? parents check his house and discover he is missing, but they find what appears to be a Last Will and Testament naming a woman named Terri Hoffman as executor of Charles? estate. Hoffman is the founder of a new religious movement Charles had joined called ?Conscious Development of Body, Mind and Soul?, but they are accused of functioning like a cult and over the course of several years, a number of people associated with them would die under suspicious circumstances. Was Conscious Development responsible for Charles Southern?s disappearance? This week?s episode of ?The Trail Went Cold? not only covers an unsolved missing persons case, but also explores the story of a bizarre cult and their potential culpability in several deaths. Special thanks to listener Carolina Young for providing the opening narration on this episode. The Trail Went Cold – Episode 158 – Ezzat Aboul-Hosn

May 20, 1982. Kendall, Florida. A fire breaks out at the home of 30-year old Ezzat Aboul-Hosn and a badly burned body is found pinned underneath a car inside his garage. The body is tentatively identified as Ezzat and after it is determined that a leaky fuel line caused the fire, his death is ruled to be accidental. However, after Ezzat?s sister collects on a substantial life insurance policy, investigators become suspicious and eventually discover that the victim?s teeth do not match Ezzat?s dental records. Evidence suggests that Ezzat faked his death and fled to his home county of Lebanon, but he is never actually found. Did Ezzat Aboul-Hosn successfully get away with murder? If so, then who was the unidentified man killed in the fire? We shall attempt to answer these questions, as we explore one of the most bizarre stories we?ve ever covered on this week?s episode of ?The Trail Went Cold?. The Trail Went Cold – Episode 157 – Jamie Stickle

February 8, 2002. Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. After closing up the bar she manages and drinking at various clubs in the downtown area, 33-year old Jamie Stickle drives back home to her apartment. Shortly thereafter, Jamie?s Jeep Wrangler is found engulfed in flames near her front door and her badly burned body is in the driver?s seat. Since some of Jamie?s personal items are scattered on the ground and there is a blood trail at the scene, this seems to indicate a violent attack, but investigators are unable to determine how exactly the fire started. As a result, there is not enough concrete evidence to classify Jamie?s death as a homicide and her cause of death is officially ruled to be ?undetermined?. Was Jamie the victim of foul play or was she actually killed in a freak accident? If it was murder, who was responsible and what could their motive have been? This week?s episode of ?The Trail Went Cold? explores a truly perplexing cold case which has stumped investigators for the past two decades. In addition, we will also briefly discuss the brutal unsolved murder of Catherine Corkery, which took place in Pittsburgh on July 22, 1989. The Trail Went Cold – Episode 154 – The Walker Family Murders

December 19, 1959. Osprey, Florida. After spending the day running errands and visiting a family friend, 25-year old Cliff Walker, his 24-year old wife Christine, and their two children, three-year old Jimmie and 23-month old Debbie, head back to their rural home in separate vehicles. The following morning, the family?s bodies are discovered inside their house. They were each shot in the head before Debbie was drowned in the bathtub and Christine has also been sexually assaulted. Over the next several decades, investigators would look at a number of different suspects, but two of the most promising turn out to be Perry Smith and Richard Hickock, who were responsible for the murder of the Clutter family in Kansas one month earlier, a crime which became the subject of the iconic book, ?In Cold Blood?. However, DNA testing on the deceased killers turns out to be inconclusive and there is no evidence to conclusively implicate anyone. This week?s episode of ?The Trail Went Cold? covers the harrowing murders of an entire family which have remained unsolved for 60 years. The Trail Went Cold – Episode 147 – The Lewis Clark Valley Murders

September 12, 1982. Lewiston, Idaho. 21-year old Kristina Nelson and her 18-year old stepsister, Jacqueline ?Brandy? Miller, leave Kristina?s apartment, but never return. That very same night, 35-year old Steven Pearsall vanishes after being dropped off at his workplace, the Lewiston Civic Theatre, where Kristina had previously held Steven?s job as a janitor. The disappearances are believed to be connected and a year-and-a-half later, Kristina and Brandy?s remains are found at the bottom of a ravine. Investigators explore potential connections with two other cold cases which took place within the Lewis-Clark Valley: the 1979 disappearance of 12-year old Christina White and the 1981 murder of 22-year old Kristin David. They turn up a promising person of interest who seems to link these cases together, but there is not enough evidence to charge with any of the crimes. Was a serial killer responsible for the murders of all five of these victims? This week's episode of ?The Trail Went Cold? explores one of the craziest stories we?ve ever covered: the Lewis-Clark Valley Murders. This episode of ?The Trail Went Cold? is brought to you by Away. The Trail Went Cold – Episode 146 – Janett Christman

March 18, 1950. Columbia, Missouri. 13-year old Janett Christman shows up at a married couple?s residence to spend the evening babysitting their child. When the couple returns home, they discover that Janett has been raped and strangled to death by an intruder, and the local sheriff?s department would report having received a phone call from Janett while she was being attacked. The investigation uncovers a promising suspect named Robert Mueller, whom Janett had also babysat for, but there is not enough evidence to make an arrest. Four years earlier, another young Columbia woman was murdered in a strikingly similar fashion and a suspect went to the gas chamber for the crime. But could an innocent man have been executed while the real killer went on to murder Janett Christman? On this week?s Halloween-themed episode of ?The Trail Went Cold?, we explore a creepy unsolved crime which inspired an infamous urban legend.
