Ruby Ridge is the name given to a standoff that lasted for days when federal agents were attempting to serve a bench warrant for husband, father, and property owner Randy Weaver. Weaver was wanted for failure to appear in court, facing illegal weapons charges. A series of errors created unnecessary bloodshed. Several people lost their lives on both sides of this standoff. The words Ruby Ridge have grown to be an ?uncomfortable? phrase for many people, communities, and U.S. Government agencies. Ruby Ridge was much more than a big and deadly misunderstanding. Ruby Ridge was an abuse of power and forever shall be a stain on the agencies that abused their power.

Hate itself is not a crime. Hate is a feeling, an emotion but hate can very easily become criminal. In fact we see it everyday on the News, playing out before our eyes. Richard Wayne Snell was a white separatist and a white supremacist. His hate became criminal. He committed several hate crimes that resulted in the murders of innocent people. Unfortunately within certain groups throughout several states Richard Snell was looked at as a leader, an influencer, and a lone wolf. He was a bad man full of hate who preferred to operate alone but when his mission became overthrowing the U.S. Government it required that he work with others. He found friendship in several hate groups that operated far and wide, from Arkansas all the way out to Washington state. Richard Wayne Snell?s hate fueled more hate and that hate turned violent and deadly.

Days later the bodies of the women were discovered buried a little more than 8 miles from the vehicle. Someone went to great extremes in a failed attempt to conceal the bodies. This is the case that many refer to as "The Kansas Moms Murders."

On Friday, August 11, 2000 - 24 year old Erin Taylor left a message on her best friend?s answering machine at 10:04PM. A few days later her friend traveled to Erin?s house looking for her. Her findings were alarming and concerning. She decided to report her friend missing as she feared the worst for Erin. What was known was that Erin had plans to meet a man from out of town that weekend. However after the Friday night answering machine message no one had heard from Erin and the days were dragging on. Days later, Erin?s body was found in a wooded area. Someone had placed her there and covered her with a blanket. Her case remains unsolved. There is a $5,000 reward for information leading to a conviction in this case. Tips can be called into Marquette Police 1-906-228-0400

This week we feature an unsolved case that left Houstonians baffled and in fear, and a police force hunting a killer.  A young woman, Liz Barraza was shot and killed in her driveway just before 7AM on a Friday.  The murder was captured on home security cameras.  The vehicle that the murderer was driving to and from the scene was captured on several cameras.  In fact, police found footage of the vehicle in the neighborhood from several hours prior to the murder.  Why was the killer patrolling this quiet and safe neighborhood?  Were they perhaps familiarizing themselves with the street, the victim's house, and planning when to strike?  Liz Barraza was well liked and loved by so many.  Who wanted her dead and so badly that they committed the murder where they could be seen by many?  Her family is still holding out hope that they can get justice for Liz. January 13, 1996 - 9 year old Amber Hagerman was taken off of her pink bicycle and we are still looking for her killer. A still unidentified man snatched Amber off of her bike in broad daylight in a public area. Sadly her body was found 4 days later in a location nearby. January 13, 1996 - 9 year old Amber Hagerman was taken off of her pink bicycle and we are still looking for her killer. A still unidentified man snatched Amber off of her bike in broad daylight in a public area. Sadly her body was found 4 days later in a location nearby. Today we have the Amber Alert, an emergency broadcast alert system aimed at saving lives and bringing children home.  The Gilgo Beach Killer, The Long Island Serial Killer, L.I.S.K., and the list of names, and monikers goes on and on.  These are all names given to an unidentified serial killer that is responsible for four murders, maybe eleven unsolved homicides, and likely the number could be higher.  These names refer to a series of murders that took place from 1996 to 2011 in which the remains of eleven people were found on the South Shore of Long Island, New York.  From the public?s perspective, this all started when Shannon Gilbert went missing in the early morning hours of May 1, 2010.  Her disappearance triggered the finding of four sets of remains off of Ocean Parkway at Gilgo Beach. These victims became known as the Gilgo Four. By May of 2011 police had discovered six more sets of remains in the area. But the truth is that this nightmare started long before Shannon disappeared.  

In 2023, an architect then 59-year old, Rex Heuermann was arrested and initially charged with three of the murders. Just this month he was charged with a seventh homicide. This week in the Garage, we talk about what the police found in Rex Heuermann?s home, specifically a planning document.  This is a kill document, one that many are calling Rex Heuermann?s Blue Print for Murder.

On August 2nd, 2006 Robert Wone a young prominent lawyer went to stay with friends after a long day at work.  He arrives at the home of three friends 1509 Swann Street, Washington D.C. at 10:30PM.  At 11:49PM an emergency call is made to 911 requesting an ambulance.  Sometime between 11:08PM and 11:49PM, Robert Wone was stabbed three times in the chest and abdomen with a knife.  His friends say an intruder came into the house using the backdoor.  The police say otherwise.  If you have any information about this case, you can contact the Washington, DC. The night before Halloween attack on Poltergeist movie star Dominique Dunne shocked and surprised both Hollywood and the nation.  Dominique was an up and coming star.  At the young age of twenty two years old she had already found success on both television and the big screen.  Her star was rising but that would be brought to an abrupt end at the hands of a violent monster who was spiraling out of control.  Hands, that unfortunately she knew all too well.  

There are many resources available to victims of both stalking and domestic violence.  If you feel you are in imminent danger or are in fear - call 911 immediately! 

Even when stalking is not related to domestic violence, domestic violence and/or sexual assault service providers are often the right people to contact.  The Victim Connect Resource Center is a referral helpline.  They are available 9AM to 5PM ET by calling 1- 855-4-VICTIM

And perhaps the best resource is The National Domestic Violence Hotline. They can be reached by texting START to 88788 or by calling 1-800-799-SAFE. But remember if you are in danger - call 911 and please talk to your local law enforcement agency.

In August of 1972 a young mother is reported missing to police by her roommate.  Vicki Lynn Harrell was a smart and hard working woman, making her way in the world.  She went out one night to run a few errands but never returned.  Later her body was discovered.  The killer had crudely carved KN on the dead woman?s chest.  Four law enforcement agencies worked this case.  This week True Crime Garage examines this case while taking a look at one or two others that may be connected.  Anyone with information concerning this case should contact the Indiana State Police, Bloomington post at 1-800-423-1286

The Main Line Murders is the largest and longest running murder investigation ever conducted by the Pennsylvania State Police.  On June 25th, 1979 the naked corpse of schoolteacher Susan Reinsert was found wedged into her hatchback car in a motel parking lot.  Her two children Michael and Karen have not been seen since June 22, 1979.  They were just ten and eleven years old, respectively.  The two children were last seen playing in front of their mother?s house.  Why did the family of three leave their home late that Friday night?  Where were they going and why?  This is a murder mystery with too many unanswered questions.

Does America and other nations have an obsession with Serial Killers?  Many have asked that question.  I say no, but what is clearly obvious is many people have a very deep fascination with Serial Killers.  Serial murderers are a rare breed.  Many people who follow true crime will typically go through a phase when they first discover some of these types when one wants to learn more or maybe as much as possible about these rare killers.  This week we are joined by Dr. Scott Bonn, a PhD criminologist to discuss serial killers and learn a little bit more about them.  Dr. Scott Bonn has provided expert commentary and analysis for a number of high profile true crime television shows and now he is bringing his insights into the Garage.
